Do Fender look at their own specs? I've seen a few things out of the box (guitar and bass) that have needed a slight tweaking. As @thodrik says, a few catalysts to consider, if you've got a lighter/heavier gauge than what Fender use as a standard could make a big difference. Set up for whatever is comfortable for yourself and as long as it all works well, it's a job well done.

Damn! That's a beauty of a bass! Not your conventional looking bass but I dig it and specs wise sound delicious (something about Tesco Finest? 🤤) would love to see a video and/or sound clips.

Some hydrogen peroxide should make your scratch plate sparkle white again, you'll find it online cheap enough and an aluminium baking tray from Asda to pop it in. I'd leave it out of the way of where it could spill/tip over, from sunlight and definitely away from children/pets. Should only be a few pounds to do, that and some nail varnish will cosmetically do the trick. The J pickup shouldn't be too hard to resolve. If it's not an issue with the knobs or wiring, then a replacement J pickup is never too much to replace these days. http://www.entwistlepickups.com/pickup.php?puid=JBX

Agreed but then it depends if you're looking to spend over £2k or just find a quality 6 string production model for a decent price. I'd either go Yamaha, Dingwall or Sandberg or check out the second hand market for a bargain. Is one chunky truss rod better than two though?

Shiiit, knew these basses have been slightly modified since, at least with tuners, necks (frets?), and more crazy colours. But at least a grand more?! 🙈
