For me - Nathan East. I first saw this when it originally aired in 1990 when I was 14 years old. Seeing someone playing a bass the size of an ironing board, dancing around and smiling the whole time was the epitome of cool to me. To some it may be the snarling, low slung bass or the standing in one position that makes your favourite cool bass player cool but to me, this is what cool is all about. That someone could do that and clearly be enjoying himself had such a profound effect on me that I always try to have as much fun at a gig as I possibly can, regardless of how good, bad or indifferent the gig actually is.

I had a Stingray many moons ago that had really badly tarnished poles so I bought one of those completely enclosed EMG style covers and it did the trick. I never noticed any difference in output having the poles hidden under the cover

It's only been the colour coded ones I have used as well. As I mentioned, the ball ends are slightly different colours to the D'addario ones but still coloured

Exactly the same as me. If my hands are clean before I begin playing then my bass will still be clean when I've finished playing. As per others I will clean the bass when I change strings and lemon oil the fretboard once or twice a year. I hate gunky, filthy basses. It's not the first time I've bought a used bass and completely stripped the hardware (saddles removed from the bridge etc) and soaked it all in sugar free cola to remove the grime

Ah, I'll need to have a scout around to see if I can find anything more out about this. I'm guessing that it must be relatively recently as it was strings that I only just bought at the tail end of last year that I compared.

Fender strings are currently made by D'addario and I alternate between the 7250M Fender strings and D'addario EXL165 as they are so close so if the Fenders are stiff then the equivalent D'addarios will feel the same. I'm guessing that there will be slight differences in the construction of the strings but apart from the slightly different coloured ball ends, they feel and sound pretty close so as to be interchangable.

I'm not sure what transparent or flat means but the MB500 sounds like a Gallien Krueger. It's not quite as growly as the 700RB II but it gets most of the way there for a fraction of the weight

I use Chromes on my Precision and absolutely love them. Their quite bright for flats but this can easily be sorted by using the tone control depending on what sort of sound you are looking for. I always cut the strings on my basses whether flats or rounds. granted, on the G that's only about an inch or so but I still do it

I use a 110 E string so that I can tune down to B when I need it. I need to exercise some self restraint when tuning down to the B as it does get a tad floppy ( I use a 130 B string when playing 5s ) but if you are using a light gauge to begin with then you should get away using a 110 tuned to C

As always, I used D'addario EXL165-5 strings with my 425 and 1025 and it sounded really good. Really good tension, for me at least, on all strings including the B and the right amount of brightness without being too zingy.

About 10-12 years ago I had the good fortune to own a Warwick Thumb NT5 and Modulus Flea at the same time. I hated the Modulus and could never get it to sound right but was able to nail the aggressive Flea tone with the Thumb Now I wish I really hadn't looked at the pictures I have of the Thumb now as it makes me want another

This is a Warmoth tele headstock with a jazz width nut if that helps. It's one I had made a few years ago.

That's the one you want - it has " no chatter or sound clogging" One thing that always grinds my gears is sound clogging Also no sound comes out according to the seller so the sound is indeed clogged or something

My Harley Benton jazz is very similar to yours but I didn't like the Rosewell pickups that were fitted so got 2 Fenders and they turned a good bass into a great bass

I'm always at my most dangerous during quiet spells with the band. my gear is great, I love all of it, but it doesn't stop me wanting something else just for the hell of it. There don't appear to be any Euros in the for sale section at the moment but I'm going to keep my eyes peeled.

After watching Guy Pratt's lockdown licks I have GAS for a US Spector NS2. Luckily I don't have the money for one, even if I sold my two basses. I suppose that it's only a matter of time before I put an ad up looking for a Euro LX or LT as trade for my Stingray

I think this is what they call a sleeper in the car world. It looks like any other HB jazz bass. The only thing that gives it away are the Ultralites from the back. I have a high mass bridge that I plan on putting on the next time I change the strings but that may be some time as only use this for rehearsals. At short notice or if playing a dive I am more than happy to gig this bass. If circumstances changed and I had to sell my Stingray and Precision then I wouldn't have any problem using this all the time It looks like a 1 piece body - any time I think that I see a join it turns out not to be

I've been using a Behringer CS400 since the tail end of last year and it is always on in my signal chain. I find that it add a lot of something - I can't quite figure out what but there's also a bit of old 60s/70s farty distortion when used with the precision. Anyway, I really like it

I agree. The rehearsal rooms will be rammed once everyone knows when we can get back out to get it back to the standards that we were at pre-lockdown. Otherwise there will be a lot of "jazz" being played in venues up and down the country. At the moment I can't see how pubs and clubs could operate and still comply with social distancing. That's before we even consider weddings and parties which is what my band mainly does - 200-300+ drunk people packed into a relatively small space. All of our gigs for the beginning of the year have been moved back to next year so the first one that we have in the diary is in the middle of July but I'm preparing myself for not playing this year at all
