  1. I think that this has been the subject of a few other threads as well - This is one of the new "ash" bodied Jazz basses, in fact ash everything
  2. They did do a limited edition Sledge bass a few years ago. I can't remember if it was Flea being a Richard or whatever but that was the reason there was no graphite neck Flea signature and instead he went to Modulus
  3. I need to go and have a shower after looking at that bass. That's dreadful
  4. D'addario do EXL160BT which are 50, 67, 90, 120. I used them in standard tuning and got on fine with them so they should be ok in D tuning. They also do a super heavy gauge with the EXL230 strings - 55, 75, 95, 110. Amazon are currently doing these for £18.20 https://www.amazon.co.uk/DAddario-EXL230-050-110-Electric-Strings/dp/B000OR8BP0 I don't endorse D'addario strings, although that would be nice, but they are all that I use. I gave up trying anything else years ago as I found exactly what I wanted. I normally get 8 or 9 wedding length gigs from them before they begin to go dull - so about 36-40 playing hours
  5. Me too. I remember the photos in the pages of Bassist with the vast array of Warwicks in every flavour and all sorts of exotic stuff This bass is really good value as you can pay up to £140 for the pickups alone and matching headstocks are always more expensive than plain ones. Me likey
  6. Personally it doesn't matter. I've been through so many basses of differing nut widths, neck depths, string spacing, number of strings etc that it doesn't matter to me anymore. Means that I can jump from one bass to another without thinking about it
  7. I've got a Fender High Mass bridge and 18v to my EMGs going on my Jazz bass tonight Another thing I read was that high mass bridges improve the sound/sustain/bananas/snake oil on Jazz basses but make Precisions worse/sustain less/the spawn of beelzebub
  8. I've had mine 18 months and have been amp & cab gas free since. I couldn't imagine going back to a more traditional bass rig ever again when I get exactly what I need from this and my Tonebone
  9. I love D'addario strings. Depending on what mood I'm in I'll have Chrome flats, ELX165 Nickel plated or my current favourite - Prosteels I find most stainless strings too rough but D'addarios across the board seem to be a lot smoother on my fingers
  10. My hovercraft is full of eels. I will not buy this record, it is scratched
  11. I'd only ever gone out gigging with one bass for years. It's only been in the last year or two that I have taken a second one - initially as a spare but then I decided to use one for the first set and another for the second. Usually the one for the first set has flats as a lot of the first half is disco, funk and soul but the second half has more rock and pop so I have a second bass with stainless steel rounds for the second set. I don't agree that you have to spend a lot of money to get a good bass, in fact my Player Precision is already sold and I am in the process of selling my Stingray. I figured that it may be next year before I get to play so didn't see the point in having so much money tied up in these basses. When we start gigging again, my main and only basses will both be Harley Bentons. The first set bass will be a JB-20 with licenced Hipshot Ultralites, Fender pickups and a Wilkinson high mass bridge. This will have D'addario flats. The second set bass is a JB-75MN. This has EMGs with BTS tone controls, Fender high mass bridge and Hipshot US Ultralites with D-tuner on the E. This will have D'addario prosteels. I already had the parts for the first one and the Ultralites for the second one. I've only bought the EMGs and Fender bridge specially. If I was playing a gig with minimal gear then I could take either and leave the other one at home
  12. My Desert Gold with matching headstock 2004 SR4
  13. The pictures of my long gone Colonel Mustard L-2000 are probably long gone as they were on photobucket so here they are again:
  14. The ones I'd have back in a minute would be: Fernandes fretless with EMGs Colonel Mustard G&L L-2000 Stingray 5 in Lava Pearl Carlo Robelli 12 string The Warmoth '56 Precision that I spent ages speccing all of the parts Finally - my BB1025
  15. Found it! The first of the slidey bits come around 1.08
  16. Alternatively you could buy a spanner with both sizes https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Deep-Offset-Ring-Spanners-5-8-x-9-16-7-16-x-1-2-AF-A-F-Chrome-Vanadium/380862823013?hash=item58ad317a65:m:mP9bZwD6Ce7aWtGO3I1fYbA I carry both sizes plus a 3/4" for my Ultralites in case one of them comes loose during a gig which has never happened but would rather have something like this handy when I'm at a gig a couple of hundred miles from home
  17. You're absolutely correct - I have a notification telling me that there is a new video but it's not there
  18. They take the grub screw type of knobs - they're designed as direct replacement for US basses
  19. This and I Wish are my two favourite Stevie Wonder bass lines. I remember when I heard this at being disappointed as it didn't sound as good as I thought that it was going to be but I Wish being even more amazing than I thought it could possibly be but I can't find it on Youtube so it may have been deleted or taken off
  20. When I had my FSR Precision Special I didn't like the sound either so I changed the factory pups and preamp for a set of EMGs and the BQS control and sold the original pickups. Turned a good bass into a great bass it was a tight fit for the large mid-range board attached to the pot but it did fit without any work plus I discovered that I was able to squeeze 2 9v batteries into the battery compartment and use an adaptor which clipped right onto the existing battery terminal to make it 18v
  21. I got mine from Six String Supplies. It's incredibly well made https://www.sixstringsupplies.co.uk/product/solderless-jazz-bass-harness
  22. Remembering of course that you aren't meant to travel over 5 miles from your home, or wherever you will be staying while here for the time being until wee Jimmy Krankie tells us we can
  23. For me - Nathan East. I first saw this when it originally aired in 1990 when I was 14 years old. Seeing someone playing a bass the size of an ironing board, dancing around and smiling the whole time was the epitome of cool to me. To some it may be the snarling, low slung bass or the standing in one position that makes your favourite cool bass player cool but to me, this is what cool is all about. That someone could do that and clearly be enjoying himself had such a profound effect on me that I always try to have as much fun at a gig as I possibly can, regardless of how good, bad or indifferent the gig actually is.
  24. A quick google of the first part of the barcode on the neck has brought this up: https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/fender-genuine-precision-bass-replacement-neck-nitro-rosewood.1787574/ It has the same J URIBE on the heel This one has the same first part of the code but a different second part, maybe to indicate different neck dimensions(?) 2003 AV62 https://reverb.com/item/30560601-2003-fender-american-vintage-62-precision-bass-olympic-white-with-ohsc-case-candy-free-shipping#full
  25. I had a Stingray many moons ago that had really badly tarnished poles so I bought one of those completely enclosed EMG style covers and it did the trick. I never noticed any difference in output having the poles hidden under the cover
