  1. If the aux connection sends a signal to record then could someone with an android device record to an app on their device as well or is this something specific to IOS?
  2. Never owned a Sting model but had a couple of the '51 reissues in both 2 tone sunburst and colonel mustard finishes. They do have a completely different sound to a regular split coil precision. When I decided to have Warmoth build me something I went with the '54 shape with contours as the '51 shape was a bit uncomfortable. I went for the vintage look including a Lollar pickup, single screw tug bar and Gotoh reverse lightweight tuners but that's a Gotoh 201 under the bridge cover as I wanted to have the full range of adjustment. I also specced a jazz width neck. I think that I also had a set of Optima chrome roundwound strings on it. It sounded so amazing through my Trace V-type combo
  3. That's good to hear - there are plenty of "one off performances" when i'm around 😀
  4. The story I heard regarding Maggie May was that Ronnie Wood played the bass line while incredibly drunk.
  5. Muziker have a good range. I saved this bookmark when I was thinking about a fretless pau ferro neck a while back
  6. I already loved the way this bass looked but I think the mirror scratchplate takes it up a level
  7. I use D'addario Chromes and always buy them as single strings so that I can get the gauges that I want which are 45, 60, 80, 110. They feel the most balanced to me. In a 45, 65, 85, 105 set the A & D are a lot higher tension than the G & E with the E being the lowest tension of all But to answer your question I have no idea why these are accepted gauges unless those were all you could get back in the day so they stuck with them to give bass players continuity.
  8. I think the maximum length is 120cm so basses can only be sent in a gig bag in a box to get it small enough. I sent a Yamaha BB425 the USA USA believe it or not and everything went ok. I've just recently sent a SACD to a buyer in Japan and it arrived a few days ago
  9. We're due to play a wedding tomorrow night and even at this late stage I'm convinced that it will be cancelled. I've got everything ready should it go ahead but it was the last date in the diary until the beginning of May
  10. Not so much dread but tend to get too excited about when we come to play it is Footloose. It's all over the shop and when I get too excited I tend to dig in and so it becomes more difficult than it should be. Cracking bass line and I always should "yeah" when it gets to the last bit and I've managed to not make a complete pigs ear of it
  11. Cool, lots of tunes I haven't heard before so something new to listen to. I always loved the bass line in the chorus of "I know what I like". Simple but melodic
  12. As above, they shouldn't shift when tightened but a variation on the aluminium tape/milk carton idea is to cut a sheet of A4 paper lengthwise slightly thinner than the nut that goes through the hole, tape one end to the nut and then wrap it around enough times until it takes up the gap and tape it at the end. Bob's your auntie's live in lover.
  13. surely the lowest string would have been made from the same diameter cable that supports the Clifton suspension bridge and could only be heard by creatures at the bottom of the sea. All those strings and only 4 controls etc
  14. We've done "You're My Best Friend" by Queen with my current band as we were asked to learn it for a gig and the only time I've sang live, it was Hotel California as, again, we were asked for it. Anything is possible as long as you do a good job of it.
  15. I'm not a fan of the relic look but if I did I would have a nice, new, shiny, adjustable bridge under a manky, rusty chrome cover
  16. I love One Hot Minute but listened to I'm With You once and thought that it was dreadful. If you're into vinyl, Mother's Milk is incredible. BSSM was very disappointing and quite flat sounding
  17. Saw Supergrass at the Barrowlands in Glasgow last night. Really enjoyed it although Mick Quinn's bass was way too quiet. I admit that i didn't know a lot of their tunes until nearer the gig but our drummer had a spare ticket so I went with her. First standing gig in years and after about an hour I was ready for a seat. I'm getting too old for this sh*t Standout songs for me were Diamond Hoo Ha Man, St Petersburg and although I don't really like it normally, Alright was fantastic
  18. I didn't realise that there was an option to do this in the menu - I use the high pass filter on my Bassbone so wouldn't need it but it's good to know that there is one should I need it in the future
  19. I wouldn't mind at all if one of the other bands did Sex On Fire, Dakota or Valerie. Not one bit - in fact I would encourage it 😀
  20. Personally it doesn't matter who wrote it, if I play it exactly as per the original or what anyone else thinks, as long as we are having fun, getting paid and playing with a group of people that I love then I'm happy
  21. I tend to favour 70s music (I'm 44), our 51 year old singer likes modern music, our 41 year old drummer likes 80s and our 43 year old guitarist likes cheesy 90s rock and country so there's not always a correlation between age and musical tastes.
  22. I've just plugged my Stingray in tonight and it sounded like the battery was on it's way out so I changed the battery to a Duracell Industrial which is what I always use in my Musicman basses and it began emitting a really strange noise. Almost like the electronic equivalent of someone blowing a raspberry. I put the original Aerocell battery in a everything is fine again. I've checked the battery which has a date of March 2020 and it's still reading 9.16v. I've tried a regular Duracell that I had lying around and it works fine as well. The original battery that I took out has a reading of 8.67v Any ideas What could be causing this? In my 20 odd years of owning active basses I've never had this before
  23. I've always hated learning new songs and rehearsals, especially if I think that the songs are garbage but realise that they are a necessary evil if you want to keep the set fresh and up to date. There is a world of difference between playing in a pub band and playing in a wedding/function band. In all of the pub rock bands that I have been in, the focus has always been the band, whereas in a function band, everyone is there for the occasion and to get steamboats. I'm happy in both situations. For me, I just love playing regardless of whether we're playing for 5 or 500. If the audience are up for it then even better but I always enjoy myself. Even when you're in rougher areas and some of the audience start singing "at" you with that starey eyed, pished, nothing going on but the rent, aggressive look, 999 times out of 1000 it doesn't end in any unpleasantness. Years back I did it for the money and would always be looking at my watch hoping it was close to the end of the night. Nowadays I still get the money but I will occasionally look at my watch and can't believe how quick the night has gone. I love gigging and I'm fortunate to be in a band where we all get on, there are no egos, there's no politics, just gigging and trying to be the best that we can be
  24. Did a trade with Andy with my Jazz for his Stingray. Couldn't have been easier - great communication all the way and the Stingray arrived exactly as described. I wouldn't hesitate in dealing with Andy again in the future
