1. I am always heard with my Stingray and the low mids boosted on my TE head. If you want to know what you and the rest of the band sounds like then during the sound check get right out front. I use 2 leads linked with a double female connector just for that & then change back to 1 lead for the gig. It's a cheap solution top an age old problem.
2. Hope it doesn't give you the cold shoulder cos it' frigid! Sorry, had to said given the title of the thread. Good luck with your dating though. Don't worry if it's too old as many a fine tune has been played on an old fiddle!
3. Welcome to the jungle by Guns 'N Roses. Great bassline that needs to be picked for max impact. Had a couple of run throughs so should be good for first gig in the new year.
4. Don't know about this version, but years ago a band i was in did the Fast Freddies Fingertips version. Sounds similar though. Wasn't too dificult i seem to remember, just keep up with the semitone key changes.
5. The newest song in our set.
6. Err no, never have & never will. Go for it all all of you who do though.
7. Saw them at Knebworth in 1990 and was well impressed with them. Some great songs.
8. I have used Dunlop 1mm nylon picks for years. However I was at the Mansons guitar show and bagged these for free from the Ernie Ball stand, they came with a pick tin and they are great. 9. Yeah, Oasis are about the songs, especially Liam's voice (which was great) and the wall of sound guitars. Noel played the bass on all of Definately Maybe and most of What's the Story. I had a quick peek of Tony Carrols biog in WHS and he said Guigsy was a bit wobbly lived but he managed to work with that, but in a studio it didn't cut so Noel deleted all the tracks and did them himself. We do Cigs & Alchohol and TBH I made my own bassline up that I enjoy playing. Best not to mention Oasis & basslines in the same sentance.
10. I agree. I love the look of my Trace UV light and my mirror scratch plate reflecting the lights back.
11. Never bothered me but our guitarist insists on being to the left of the drummer as we stand so I end up the other side. Previously I used to be on the drummers snare side more often than not.
12. I don't shout about it but most people know I play and a few have seen me play. I work with a friend who is a bassist. I have bought my Stingray and speakers off him. I also lined him up with the job.
13.
Hi all - I just got a Google alert about this thread - I think I joined Basschat a few years ago but I'm afraid I haven't visited since! So - silldx - thanks very much for your comment. I've been having a fantastic time on the Gong tour - we started in France in October, went to Holland, Switzerland, the UK and finished in Japan a few days ago. (So sorry Mep - you've missed it) To clarify the equipment I'm using - your right about the Vigier fretless - though the fingerboard is actually Delta metal - it's like brass but is harder - it is an absolutely superb bass! The Markbass gear is a Little Mark Tube 800 and Two 604 cabs - although in Tokyo I used a Momark black 800 and a Standard 104HF cab. The pedal board is a Keith McMillan Softstep - a very versatile MIDI pedalboard that is also very small and light - so perfect for touring. I used a Focusrite Saffire audio interface. On the Macbook Pro I'm using Ableton Live - I have one channel as a bass effects unit - using various plug ins - and other channels of various sound samples that I've programmed to augment some of the songs and provide soundscapes. btw - which gig were you at?
Great to hear from you Dave. Thanks for posting on this thread. There is plenty of love for Gong & Hillage on Basschat. Hopefully you will check in from time to time. I have double checked Dec 14th and it appears that Kangeroo Moon are in Exeter. I'll keep look out for your next tour.
14. I agree about going to last page. I have mentioned this in another post and it would be a great improvement.
15. If you can find a 2nd hand Aria Pro 2 fretless then go for it. I really like mine. +1 on going lined to start. Years ago I had a MM Stingray 5 string fretless that was unlined. A beauty but a bit intimidating at first.
16. Keep an eye out for it's re-listing. Bet it goes for few quid with some of you keen to get your hands on it for spares!
17. Brass fretless fingerboard, wow! I like Gong & have just checked their tour dates and they are in Exeter on Dec 14th, but no tickets left.
18. Yeah forget the comments. Interesting as a school science project thought. No 5 string version yet!
19. Thanks for the update. We appreciate all the work done to keep this great site and bass community running.
20. Odd why it doesn't work after getting fixed only recently. Any update on the issue?
21. Yeah, me too with my Android. Was ok for a few days after all the great work getting the site sorted.
22. Sure is. Great to be back to buisness.
23. Thanks. It's getting a bit frustrating as the home page looks awful at pressnt. Looking forward to buisness as usual soon.
24. Still not working!
25.
I will be there, working with MSL on the MarkBass stand... come and find me! I'll be the one looking like the semi bald git in my avatar!! I am a dedicated MB user and will have my pair (fretted/fretless) of Lakland 55-02's with me, along with my JV '57 precision... come and have a play on them!
I'll be sure to stop by the MB stand to say hi and check out what's on offer.
