1. I must stop drooling or I might succumb to a bad case of GAS. That is one seriously good looking bass. My first proper bass was a great Joodee precision copy with the black body and maple neck. It's just so iconic. I miss mine and will admit that if I had the funds I would have PM'd you by now.
2. Mmmm, tasty. Better than my SB600 fretless. Nice find. I will keep an eye on this just to see what it goes for.
3. Hi & welcome. So what particular brand of British bass are you fanatical about then? There can't be many.

5.
I think you are looking at this too intently and specifically...he should be able to make up his parts to most decent songs.. Chain Gang. Chrissie Hynde... our keys plays a great piano part on that, IMO If he can handle Honky Tonk and you want an easy song.. Sweat Home Alabama. Oliver's Army, but to get it off close, it is NO easy busk, IMO. Sympathy for the Devil But I go with the approach that most songs can handle a piano part..so blast away. As long as the band makes room for him, it isn't a problem, IMO
+1 for Chain Gang & Olivers's Army, 2 great songs. Search for my posting of the bass line for Oliver's Army if you want to go for it.
6.
The time limit was inevitable, I knew the early adopters Free club couldn't last forever. Fine, bust us down to Open level but I can't get on with this 5 play limit, it's such a brainless limitation. I will have to stop using Spotify as a recreational background music thing. As far as using it as a means to learn songs I'm sorry to say that once these restrictions kick in, I will be using Audacity to record the Stereo Mix while I use one of my five plays then keep the resultant audio file to play as many times as it takes me to learn the song. You can bet that on average it takes me more than five plays to get most songs down
I was wondering if anyone would bring this up. I must admit to have done this with streamed music via Spotify or YouTube! (It's just so obvious?) I will be upgrading to the unlimited service as I consider £4.99 a month is quite good value if you listen a lot like we do in our family. I agree that it's sometimes easier to find tracks on Spotify rather than trawling through YouTube. I still can't get my head around the 5 play limit though, it seems such a bad move. The 10 our limit I can understand.
7. As a fairly frequent user of Spotify Free / Open I now have to consider upgrading to the unlimited (or premium) service. In case you might not be aware Spotfiy will be making changes to the Free service from 1st May. You will only have 10 hours of listening a month, but more alarmingly you will only be able to listen to any track for 5 times, so bang goes any playlists you might have. Check out https://www.spotify.com/se/blog/archives/20...tify-free-open/ I use Spotify as a source for checking out new songs for our set. Also the kids listen a lot, particulary to playlists and the same few bands. I don't need the full Premium service at £9.99 per month as I don't listen offline or with my phone. The Unlimited service at £4.99 per month will have to do. It seems the annoying adverts are not doing the trick with getting people to sign up. What do you make of it and what will you be doing?
8. Hi & welcome from another Devon based bassist. Enjoy the forum.
9. Practising tools eh? There might be a few of them somewhere on BC On a serious note I have favoured the Tascam CD-BT2 for some time now.
10. Hi, good introduction. Get in to the forum.
11. Hi Dave. Some good influences there. Enjoy the forum, your bass and your band.
12.
OK, so I whipped the strings off, undid the 3 screws, didn't lose the 4 springs under the pickup, carefully lifted the pickup cover off, and carefully tried pushing the A and D polepieces down with my fingers. They didn't move so I carefully laid the pickup in the routed hole in the body and pressed a polepiece with my thumb and in it went until it met the wood, thus finding the same level as the E and G polepieces. I repeated the process for the other 3, except I put a pick between my thumb and the polepiece so it wouldn't hurt so much, (me being a delicate 20 stone flower ). While the pickup was out I put some 2mm rubber strips between the pickup cover and the pickups to bring it up to the same level as the top of the polepieces, springs back in, screwed the pickup back down and strings back on. Took about 10 minutes to do. And it's completely fixed the problem, great string to string balance through both my amps and also into the board through headphones as well. So, a massive thank you to Funkgod and mep for the info, I owe you guys several beers! Edit: Forgot to mention I put the action of the G string back up and dropped the A and the D to where they should be, I previously had them set up to help compensate for the problem.
Well another satisfied Ray player. I'm pleased to hear it worked out for you. I couldn't believe how easy it was and what a difference it made. Funkgod really got it with that one! EBMM should sort out their design for the pups IMO and ship them with the poles flush. It really used to do my head in at times, not just the string difference but catching my fingers on the raised poles at times, which makes you lower the G string end. So it's not just in the eq as plenty of others have posted! This subject needs a pinned thread as it keeps coming up. What a lovely looking Ray you have there Fat Rich, and now is sounds the bollox! I's love to sink a few beers, but due to the distance involved between us I'm just pleased with your success.
13.
Fair enough, maybe it's the bass and the amp!
You do have to look at the overall picture here. Not witstanding that there are issues with Stingray D & G strings for some basses. Mine was so bad live I almost gave up with some songs. In the end the combination of the pup poles being pushed (made an immediate difference) and totally changing the eq on my TE head so as to boost the low mids and ease off the bass and top end I was sorted. Now I get loads of compliments about my live sound and quite a few requests to turn down as I cut through the mix with such ease.
14.
you have to solder it ?
Check this posting by Funkgod http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry758098 Also boost your low mids. The next thing you know you'll be cutting through that mix like you wouldn't believe it!
15. Another Stingray D & G string complaint. I had that too and pushed the pole pieces in for these 2 strings and then raised the pup up that end and down for the other. Worked a treat. Search the fourm for this and other remedies.
16. What a guy! There is still 9 days to go. Let's see if anyone gets round to telling him.
17. A Stingray, you know you want to so just do it!
18. Rocking Rig! Good luck with your sale and have a bump on me.
19. +1 for the Ashdown dual compressor. I use it all the time for gigs and it sound the nuts. I also use a Boss OC2 Octaver for a few songs and a cheapo Behringer Chorus for a few songs too. Plenty to choose from. You need to decide if you go the multi fx route of just get the pedals you want. Your style and set list will dictate somewhat.
20. Open E & A are ok. I'd rather fret the D & G as other have mentioned. Open notes are great if you need to do something else like drink, adjust something on the mixer which seems to be me or the drummer. I can also gesture with my hand like when we played Walking by Myself by Gary Moore (RIP) and the singer was bored so he changed the lyrics to the obvious, so I joined in with my left hand! His mum who was watching almost had a fit!
21. All new to me, thanks for putting it up.
22.
That and the Taylor Swift concert on the BBC thread here...... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=129159
2 birds, one stone if you pardon the pun. I wonder what the view from behind her is on stage?
23. PM'd Although I see others are just listing the songs in a reply. Good luck sifting through all the songs!
24.
Thanks Pete, will do BTW yourself and Doddy are looking rather fetching lately. Have you done something with your hair
Doddy's new avatar is in response to the hot chicks as avatars thread that is going strong at the moment
