1.
Just done a quick Google and I'm not finding a GS1 brand new for £231.00. Not finding a lot at £231.00
I was comparing RRP of both, which is why I put "RRP" in my post. And Google harder for decent budget guitars. Plenty of stuff there at equal or better spec without the Gibson name on them. http://www.musicrada...-today-529461/2 FWIW I own a Gibson LP Standard and it's a great guitar but the budget line doesn't seem especially good or fitting with the brand in terms of quality.
  2.
customs, esp some british manufacturers.... are pretty good prices. If I was buying new I think ACG or Osprey would be getting a call
+1 I don't see the point in buying big name stuff new anymore, not when there's brands like ACG and Shuker for bass or Gordon Smith for guitars. I'd buy 2nd hand again though, my Warwick was cheap as chips, lasted me for a couple of years and held it's value very well.
  3.
Quite a few are tempted it appears!
Got some interest in my Les Paul so it's a race to see if I can get the cash to be able to try it out before it goes...
  4.
The Gibson Melody Maker range - Les Paul, Flying V, SG and Explorer, have a retail price of £445.00.
Gordon Smith GS1 is almost exactly the same spec as the 'Paul, handmade in the UK and is £454 rrp so I can't see how the Gibson price can be called especially cheap. It's cheap for a Gibson if that's what you mean
  5.
Gorgeous! Wish I had the cash Truckstop
Wish it was nearer
  6. I bought this new in March and some annoying Intel motherboard/Windows 7/USB problem means I can't actually use it with any reliability. PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE COMMITTING TO BUY! It describes the problem in detail so you don't waste your time and cash buying it and not being able to use it. http://www.focusrite...cle.php?id=1127 Full specs here. http://global.focusr...s/saffire-6-usb It's boxed and I've registered none of the software so you still get the benefit of the disc with Ableton Live Lite 8, Novation Bass Station VST and 1GB of samples to use. They're £150 new and I've had to replace it with another interface at a cost of £120 as a result of the above issue, so the price is a non-negotiable £100 posted.
  7. As the title says, I have a black Les Paul standard I bought 2nd hand in about 1999 for sale. Comes with a hard case and an aftermarket neck pickup although I've never checked what make/model. Sounds alright though. It's got a few knocks over the years as a working guitar (it used to belong to one of the guys from Mansun and was part of a batch of about 4 guitars they sold in Back Alley Music in Chester back in the day) and could do with a fret dress. It's also had the headstock knocked off and fixed twice. The guy who did it the 2nd time said it wasn't done very well the first time and he'd struggle to fix it if it happened again. They also painted over the serial number so I'm not sure how old it is and you might want to get it security marked somehow. All this is reflected in the low low price of £600. Also for sale is a Korg Triton LE synth workstation in good working condition with the manuals. £300. Bargain. Collection only for both as there's no hard case for the synth and I want whoever wants the Gibson to give it the once over before they part with their hard earned cash as while it plays and sounds great, it's seen some use. Pics and further details on request for both, I don't want to upload a bunch of stuff if no-one's interested.
  8.
my goodness i want this !!!!
I do too and 'Northwest' is also pretty close to me. However, it's probably the 2nd nice fretless Fender I'm going to miss due to not being able to sell gear to free up money for
  9. I miss my Streamer but I wasn't using it at all and couldn't justify keeping it. If I could find a fretless for around the £500 mark, I'd move some gear around to fund it but they don't seem to come up very often. I do have my bandmates '94 Thumb BO in my room at the moment and had a great time demoing a new song with it last night. Really nice growl to it. Let me know if anyone wants some sound clips, any excuse to put my new audio interface through it's paces.
The proper old fashioned punch type?
Yep! One of these bad boys.

My old guitarist had a 4 channel amp, one of which was set to 'Valnut':- maximum treble, maximum gain, bass and mid on zero. I even did him a label for it on my Dymo label maker.
  12. No-one mentioned Sun Kil Moon yet? Plenty to choose from but here's 2 for starters. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1LxcxKwrPY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8i2tOfzyfk Ironically, the 2nd vid for me had an awful Buzzcocks cover on the pre-song advert.
  13. I don't really get the whole guitar solo thing but I love this one. Melodic and a really great way of winding the song down without being showy. Starts near the end but you should listen to it all anyway as it fits into the song as a whole. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uX39uHKAZHo
  14. That's a very cool looking amp. Is it German made?
  15. You got the Simms Watts PA head up and running yet Mike?
  16. I used to be able to do everything but the solo, it's a good challenge and a great way of working on your picking technique. Decent song too. I'm not a punk fan but I've got a lot of respect for Freeman and watched a whole Rancid set at Reading many years ago to see him play.
  17.
I borrowed my brother's ancient and battered RAT II to play Song 2 by Blur as requested at a wedding gig. I was told it should do the job. Oh my life. This pedal's so crazy it actually scares me a little. The distortion is ridiculously thick and nasty. So much fun. Try one out if you can That's all really, I was just compelled to post about it after experiencing it! Okay, I suppose a good topic would be: does anyone else own any guitar pedals then coincidentally sound awesome with bass?
Looks like an old one, any idea what year it is? The quality has been slowly declining over the years but I love the old ones, possibly my favourite dirt pedal ever for guitar along with the Harmonic Percolator. Very different beasts though. I got a cheap one off E-bay and swapped out the chip for the classic one. And put in a superbright green LED but I don't think that effects the sound I lent mine to Finbar to try out on bass but he never ended up with one so I'm not sure he got on with it. I believe it's what the guy from Glassjaw used on the 1st album which is why he wanted to try it.
  18.
Not heard a thing, but a quick google made me stumble across this
That's the one. There's that one, guitar and bass specific models and one with Blutooth for some as yet unknown reason. Looks pretty interesting. If it's full of decent effects I might get one to complement my M5.
  19.
GAK in Brighton has all of those on the shelf. So has Guitar Guitar in Epsom. Also the best sucking I've ever experienced has been in the USA. Maybe get out a bit more?...
Been to one music shop in Las Vegas and asked to try out a Digitech compressor to be told "We don't demo pedals. If you want to know what it sounds like, it's compressor." Yeah cheers. I left shortly after.
  20. Slightly off topic but has anyone seen the Zoom Multistomp series which made it's debut at NAMM? Looks like an M5 style version of the B3 but more compact.
  21.
Here you go, some badly played bass through the 2 different pitch shifter 'pedals' http://soundcloud.co...ette/pitchshift from 0:18 - 2:00 is the monopitch pedal, this is the monophonic shift. from 2:005 onwards is the PitchShift The whole patch mix is 50% and then the effects ate blended 75% in.
Good demo, very impressed with the tracking on the monopitch as well. It made me want to make 70's cop show music for some reason.
  22. So much sunburst...
  23.
I love JPJ's bass line on Ramble On.
+1. Really interesting and memorable line over what's bascially 2 chords. A soundcheck favourite.
  24. It's fine, I wanted harsh and the other 2 models on there weren't cutting it (literally).
