Another musician heard them once so therefore they invented dubstep.
-
You are provably wrong they invented notes and everything. Before them pianos just played static.
-
They have a few really great tunes and I acknowledge their impact but I can't see what all the fuss is about. I know they did it all first but I wasn't around until much later which is probably at least part of it. Same reason I could take or leave Black Sabbath.

Nice t-rex mug!

Hmm, just get a Gordon Smith if you want a double cut, and for less money too.

You seen the mods people are doing with theirs? Some are pretty impressive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dF8skIOXp24
I don't care what anyone says about Fender; they bounce and Gibson's don't.
One of the main reasons I sold my Les Paul and replaced it with a Mex strat. Plus I think I'm a single coil man, despite growing up wanting to be Jimmy Page.

Sennheiser Earphones - Mine keep breaking
GarethFlatlands replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I have had a pair of CX300's for about 6 years, used daily. My brother has gone through 3 sets in the same amount of time.
Likewise, mine broke about a month ago after 2 years of almost daily use but I read a lot about other peoples lasting a very short space of time. I've replaced them with a pair of Soundmagic e10's which are a step up in terms of sound quality and come with (I think) 7 different rubber earpieces. Too early to say how reliable they are though. -
well as everyone will recommend (by and large) what they use themselves, i'm putting my pennys worth and recommending Dave Halls's VT-2 pedals, 2 valves per pedal, not much distortion but very warm. There you go. http://www.davehalla....uk/page18.html not that cheap but very good, would never be without mine now.
I'd 2nd a DHA pedal, I had the VT1 and sold it because it wasn't enough growl but it certainly added a nice tube element to the sound.

There's a Lovetone (Swedish) Meatball joke in here somewhere.
Sorry to back track the thread somewhat but I'm thinking of looking for an alternative to mine. I have the VT1-bass-drive-eq and the tone is fantastic but its so huge! I'm thinking I might swap it for a smaller DHA or maybe a different more compact valve overdrive, if anybody could recommend one?
The SFX Micro Red Dragon is well thought of for low gain sounds. I've not tried one but they look very cool and are teeny tiny small too.
I have a feeling that the bassline to "A Horse with no name" by America was played on one, as it's difficult to articulate correctly on a 4.
I've seen a clip on youtube and it looks like the bassist has a P but it was a live clip so may not be what was on the record.

Is that the one that sounds like The Police?
-
I assume you mean you'd be placing the two J pickups right next to each other, like on this bass: http://basschat.co.u...rman-1998-sold/ If so, the answer would seem to be "yes".
I debated long and hard before selling that bass, why does no-one want to keep hold of it?

What brand are the Emperors new clothes ?
GarethFlatlands replied to Black Coffee's topic in Bass Guitars
I'll agree to disagree about Warwicks, I've only played a handful but they've each had their own sound and played really well. As for Emperors new clothes, unless you go for really cheap rubbish these days just go for whatever suits you as a player. Personally, if you gave me a Fodera for free I'd sell it and use the profits to buy a nice UK built bass or 2 and still have enough left over for a holiday but I'm sure other people look at them with unbridled GAS. Having said all that, US made Fenders seem very expensive when cheaper alternatives are available. -
There's also a good vid of Bakithi doing a few basslines on youtube including a higher register line for 'Call Me Al'. Just stick his name in and it's the first video, about 2:20 in.

6 string Andy Summers telecaster guitar project
GarethFlatlands replied to kevin_lindsay's topic in Build Diaries
Very nice, I'm a fan of Andy's but that official guitar is crazy money. Your repro is looking beautiful, looking forward to seeing it finished. -
Please don't tell my wife.
Thanks for buying it, I was about to ruin myself financially for that bass.

Guitar practice amps, about £100. Opinions and views. Ta
GarethFlatlands replied to Marvin's topic in Guitar Amplifiers
TBH the Epi VJ & similar aren't really practice amps, and if you crank one loud enough for overdrive it will be too loud for most households.
Fair point, I've never tried mine at home but those 5 watts are loud on a normal 2 by 12 cab. Depends on your cab and speaker choice but it's probably too much for home use. (Edit - mine was modded for high gain before I bought it so I couldn't really comment on volume anyway.) -
Moog Minitaur = Amazing (had to share!) EDIT: CLIP ADDED

Thanks, I think I'd go for the Slim Phatty if I were looking at a synth module for the extra flexibility but this sounds huge and looks a lot easier to use. -
By all accounts the small Mustangs are very good, though I've never tried one myself. I'd recommend a Vox Pathfinder 15 if you can find one. All analogue, great tone and capable of a reasonable volume for when you move up a little. And they look much better than the majority of small amps. I found a faulty one and gutted it, building a single ended valve amp (6V6 to 6550 for 6W to 22W) and fitting a 10" speaker with a few tweaks to the cab. Voxy Baby was my main amp for several years.
Heard nothing but good things about the Pathfinder although I've never tried one myself. Try a Harley Benton GA5 if you're handy with a soldering iron, it's the same amp as the Epiphone Valve Junior (but cheaper) so can be modded pretty heavily. Minus points are that it needs a little modding initially due to issues with hum and noise. -
Instead of switching to CL cabs, this Monday I had the opportunity to buy an as-new Neo 112 for just over half the price of a new one. The picture sucks but there it is: My ultimate mini rig of doom. A Reidmar, Neoline 110 and Neoline 112. 27kg in total. I haven't been able to test it at home. It's just too loud. :-)
Looks very nice, bet it sounds massive when you get to crank it.
I got one off gumtree for £20 because the guy had "spun" a pot. Very underrated instruments, which makes them a bargain. I would be interested in a more upmarket Yamaha!
I've got a de-fretted RBX, great instrument for the prices you can get them for.
