1. Great keyboard, so many sounds on it and the vast majority of them useful. The workstation features are beyond me but accessing sounds is really easy and I've never got much past that.
2. Sounds pretty good, I'm impressed!
3. Talk to Tom at COG if you're not finding what you want commercially.
4. I've seen a couple of vids of the mutes on a Jazz and it's pretty impressive the difference they make. Gave a very double bass sound on one them.
5. Well if it aint broke! I'd consider a new nut as they look like plastic on the ones I saw on e-bay and I just don't like 'em. I'd be interested to hear how the pickups sound, might be worth considering as a backup guitar.
6. Nice, you looking to give it an upgrade and setup?
7.
You know the Fulltone Bass Drive is actually just a Full Drive, tweaked to handle bass frequencies? The earliest BDs even came in a FD case, with "bass" crudely stuck over the "full"!...
I didn't, never tried one but I've heard good things. They seem to hold their relatively high price though so I'm put off giving one a whirl.
8. Fulltone Full Drive maybe?
9.
I'd like to know what else is out there? And what's any good?
You mean in terms of TS derivatives or other overdrive pedals? If it's other pedals, I made a BYOC clone of the Marshall Bluesbreaker which I love for milder OD. Very moddable too. Personally I'm not a fan of TS pedals, they never seem very flexible to me and I find the midrange boost very grating.
10. "Just stick to the root notes. Play it how the other guy did on our demo." Didn't stay long in that band.
11. Good idea, knowing your way around a piano keyboard is never a bad thing either.
12.
How about an Epiphone Nighthawk Re-issue? As thin as an SG but with more tonal options. I've got one and it's cool. http://www.epiphone....om-Reissue.aspx
They are cool but the niche pickups would make upgrading it more difficult. Still a great looking guitar.
13.
I've got a friend who's a great bassist and usually plays a relatively new Fender Precision, with which he gets a really nice deep, punchy sound out of his GK combo. I heard him the other day playing his Warwick Thumb bass and it sounded horrible. He was playing just a bog standard covers gig and the bass sounded horribly thin and weedy - like a Jazz bass with just the bridge pickup turned on. It sounded so wrong for that gig, as it had zero bottom end - just a very nasal, middy, growl. Yuck! Do they all sound like that?
No! A friend had a Thumb BO from 1988 and it was the beefiest sounding bass I've ever played, including a bunch of Fender P basses and even a Shuker P. Sooo much low end growl it's unreal. I wanted a Warwick for years, finally got hold of a Streamer Pro-M and loved it. It was the first bass I'd ever find myself picking up for the joy of playing rather than thinking I needed to practice. If I hadn't spent the money I got for it on a Letts fretless, I'd completely regret selling it. The fact they've gone out of style make me happy as I know I could sell a mid range guitar and use the minimal amount to cash to get another Warwick easily.
14. Good stuff, I love the JM but it's certainly not a straightforward guitar in any sense, including fitting gig bags it seems.
15. Gordon Smith GS series should be small bodied if the Gypsy is anything to go by.
16. Doesn't the EHX Steel Leather give the pick sound when playing with fingers? Can't remember where I read that, I'm sure someone on here has one and can clarify.
17. I had an active Rockbass 'vette years ago, if you can find a 2nd hand one then they go for peanuts and they're well worth it for a backup. I let mine go for £100! But I'd agree, the German ones are a big step up and can be had for around the £400 mark so go for one of them if you have the funds.
18. Sorry, I went straight from standard Fender gig bag (which the JM was too long for and the top of the headstock stuck out of as you're probably discovering) to a Gator hardcase. I can recommend the Gator if you decide to upgrade to a proper case.
19. I started learning trumpet last year and obviously been listening to a fair bit of Miles, although I'm avoiding studying him too much as I'm sure every trumpet player does that and I want to find my own voice. Doesn't stop me trying out new stuff of his though, I'll give this a listen as there's a few of his classic albums I've not tried out and this is one of them.
20.
Oooops , can you tell I was tired lol Si
In fairness, you might get a Mooer or SFX mini in there at 45 degrees!
21. Aphex on hold, Ernie Ball still up for grabs.
22. As per the title really. Can it be done? I was looking at a mixing desk with phono outputs to sit between the mic and the amp but would a mic preamp be needed as well? Or are the signal levels all wrong and we're asking for trouble in terms of blown up hi-fi amps?
23. Was it to a guy called Ed?
24. For sale. Both pedals are used but work fine. No boxes, instructions or PSU ie just the pedals. Both pedals have velcro on the bottom. Ernie Ball 250k Mono Volume pedal - Very nice smooth taper, heavily built volume pedal. RRP on these is daft. £80 posted seems reasonable. Aphex Bass Xciter (old blue version) - Interesting but just not for me as my bass w. compressor sounds more than nice enough. Too much time fiddling, not enough playing! I'm a simple man in many ways. £55 posted. The only trades I'm really interested in are a small pedalboard but make me an offer. I can only say no! No pictures as my camera is inexplicably refusing to connect to my PC for some reason. Any questions, please ask.
