1. A friend is after one of these, just let him know this is here.
2.
I will never moan about depreciation on a bass having bought one of these
Oh yeah, I have 2 Korgs with a combined value of around £2k plus RRP on release which I paid about £450 in total for. The older analogue stuff has kept it's value but there's a treasure trove of stuff from the 80's and 90's to be had for cheap.
3.
Just recently finished this I like the way it looks kind of folksy, but can sound like it wants to rip your head off.
Great looking guitar.
4. It's all from his fingers..... ....and the 2 flightcases full of rack equipment he has. Someone had a decent pic of it a couple of years ago and managed to identify almost everything in there but don't ask me where the thread is now.
5. I'm good with just this section of BC, a dedicated forum would attract the kind of people I'm glad don't frequent this forum.
6. Do it! I'm so tempted to start a DIY build as a project now I'v got a friend who does guitar repairs who might be able to help out. A build diary would be great.
7.
I'd reccomend the bridge on that one! tis a mastery (as reccomended by many pros- check their website) but alas a bit pricey. Mustang one is fine but I find it a little awkward to adjust and get it right. I've had an AVRI 62 jazzmaster for over 10 years now. I've always been scared to gig it due to the nitro finish so a squier would be ideal to knock around with. Nice to see offset bodies readily in the uk these days that are affordable. I'm sure you might have seen other people are members of the offsetguitars forum. brilliant resource for pup choices etc. if you havent been there!
The Mustang bridge isn't perfect but it's not as downright daft as the JM one, nor is it over a ton. In an ideal world I'd have the Mastery bridge, and I'm pleased they do the bridge grommets (they call them thimbles) that I mentioned so I clearly wasn't looking very hard! I might have to order some. I'll have a look over at the Offset forum, I've been considering getting a custom pickguard made without the top set of controls (never use them) but I might get some other ideas if I have a browse. Thanks.
8.
And I also share the mantra that I'm only going to festival if I'm playin, just waiting for that call..
I've been saying that for years when my back was destroyed at Reading from sitting or lying on the ground when I was still in my 20's, although I've broken that rule by going to All Tomorrows Parties and getting a chalet which suits me a lot better.
9.
I've had a Boss Slow Gear previously, to be honest, not overly great. The effect has been bettered since, so if you have a Behringer/Guyatone/Multi-FX equivalent, then thats as good as you'll get. Cool black pedal though .
I've seen one original in Strung Out Guitars in Glasgow on sale for about £220.00! Given that the BYOC recommends some internal tweaking which I doubt is available on the original, no thanks. I used to have GAS for a Zvex Fuzz Factory but since the screen print version brought the prices down from around £300.00 to half that or less 2nd hand, it's gone. Weird. I'd still love to try the Boss CE-1 and A/DA which are already on the list but the only one I'd add would be an original Roland Space Echo.
10.
http://www.ebay.co.u...rd&LH_Auction=1 These are good value, pick up an 88 key semi weighted one for about £150, i think i remember they had about 7 stock sounds including a good grand piano, rhodes and hammomd B3, but they also had a midi usb interface you can use with a laptop and VST soft synths. But im sure someone may recommend something else, probably a Yamaha!
I have the 25 key version on my desk and the standard Oxygen keyboards don't have any built in sounds. I can only dig up the KeyStudio 49i by M-Audio which has a built in piano sound only, although I'm sure you're right and they used to do one with more.
11.
I'm thinking of doing this one in a solid colour, using Molotow spray paints, as they're cheap and LukeFRC on here has had good results with them. I still need to find a neck...
Sounds good but look at this. I mean, it's beyond porn. Edit:- I can recommend UK based Mojo pickups but they're not especially cheap. I got mine for a bargain price before he got up and running and was trying to get his name out there. If you want my old MIJ pickups to get them rewound (they're not great stock to be honest) I'd be happy to let them go. Get a Mustang bridge as the JM screw style is terrible. I considered some metal grommets around the bridge arms to keep the whole thing steady but have no accurate measuring tools to order some so again, never got round to it.
12.
Right, I've made some progress in my Jazzmaster aquisition plan. Rather than springing for the Squier, I've bought a decent looking unfinished alder body from an eBay seller (it's one of these; http://www.guitarbui....php?product=91). I'll finish this and add other bits as and when I have spare cash.
I considered that approach to building an Elvis Costello looking natural woodstained Jazzer but my DIY skills aren't gooe enough. let us know how you get on with it.
13. I can recommend the Subdecay, very nice sounding fuzz and the EQ controls make it pretty versatile. The bias control is also pretty sweet. Don't know why more fuzzes don't include it.
14. Still never played a real one! I used a studios Squier Jazz and the neck was very different to my Warwick but not bad, just an adjustment. One day....
15. I'd have given it a hardtail due to my dislike of trems but that's a very nice guitar. The Ibanez logo should raise a few eyebrows but it looks like a nice fast neck and I'm a fan of flatter radius boards and floral prints so it's a winner for me.
16. Are they supposed to do that then? I thought I'd messed the build up somewhere!
17. Interesting pedal. I built a BYOC clone but I'm not sure what went wrong as it needs a really hot signal, otherwise it chokes out very easily. My old active Warwick was fine but my single coil guitars sound awful with it
18. My mum was on it once walking past in the background. Does that count?
19.
Thanks guys, some food for thought there. The Tritons are certainly great kit - I hadn't considered them as I wasn't looking at workstations but there's a few gone for a steal on eBay recently. I used a Trinity for a while way back when so I'm aware of the quality. Think the complexity might be a bit much for our man though.
I use none of the more in depth functions of the Triton LE, just go between sounds using the menu. Hit 'Prog' and then 'Category' and it's all laid out by instrument style. There may be better options but I wouldn't call it hard to use. That said, the manuals it came with were terrifyingly large and in depth!
20. Korg Tritons are alright, plenty of usable sounds. The brass isn't amazing on it's own but works OK in a band context and you can't have everything! Nice easy access to the sounds too, it's all laid out in categories (organs, brass, synths etc) and you can just scroll through them with the wheel, or select them via buttons if you know the patch no. you want. The only problems I've found are intermittent crashes where it flips back to the default patch and the volume massively drops, necessitating a restart.
21.
Wow That board could be so much smaller lol Si
Looks like my decent size Warwick board which also only houses 5 pedals :-)
22. From the reading around I did when I was considering one, they're very close to the Electric Mistress on clean but get brittle sounding when driven. I think I mainly saw guitar reviews however and ended up sticking with my M5 so I've got no 1st hand experience. No idea if that helps you at all.
23.
I think they are made of tin foil and polystyrene sheeting with mineral oil between. I don't know how to do it. It's just like most things. Someone will throw a wrench in the works if he sees something positive is going on.
http://www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-home-depot/169606-1960-jazzbass-build-10.html Post no. 200, from near the bottom of the page onwards.
24. Yeah, we eventually all agreed on 'The Slow Blade' and typically there was another band with the same name. They'd seemed fairly inactive, the other end of the country and a different genre so we went with it anyway. We stole it from Dune in any case.
25. Ibanez Roadcore? Just watched a YT video on Minus the Bears setup and they were on there in various configurations but most have mahogany bodies, hard tails and humbuckers.
