Anyone doing more than just playing bass?
GarethFlatlands replied to basexperience's topic in General Discussion
Bass, keys and backing vox in inFictions (in my sig, seems to have now imploded) and guitar in The Slow Blade. No desire to do anything else, it's already too expensive -
Look out for a Gordon Smith. Fantastic guitars, have humbuckers with coil-taps on them.
I'd 2nd this. I picked up a GS Gypsy on here a couple of months ago and I'm sold on them.
A Korg Triton should fit the bill, (or maybe a Trinity).
I'm selling a Triton LE, if you're near Sheffield you're welcome to give it a tryout.
I believe it was broken when the band's equipment was attacked by the Raggare (Rockabilly types who didn't like punk) in Sweden. It was repaired-his Shuker is based on the best bits of that one and his black Precision, I'm fairly sure it still exists. He broke his Yamaha when he thumped it, as he still does with his Shuker, but that was built to take it!
Must have been the Yamaha I read about. Glad to see my mind isn't playing tricks on me. Yet....

What a great way to showcase different basses.
GarethFlatlands replied to steve-soar's topic in General Discussion
Good video, I watched blind and my favourites were the Warwick Star, Alembic and the fretless 'Ray. The Streamer was a bit too refined and the burgundy Ray was too high end sounding for me. Nothing wrong with the Jazz but I preferred the other 3 I mentioned. Oddly, if you put all the basses in front of me and said I could have 1 but had 10 seconds to decide (not hearing or playing any) I think I'd have gone for the Streamer or the Jazz. Proof that you should listen with your ears and not your eyes. -
Has he still got that green p bass? I know he uses a black shuker now.
I vaguely remember an interview where he said he karate chopped it into pieces by accident, although I might have made that up.

Grab 'em while they're cheap, Gisbon just got hit with a hefty fine and lost a lot of wood stocks http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-19153588

£200+ estimate for the car. New bass (or anything else) not happening for a while

Another family photo of mine and Stu's (Pliskin on BC) GT1s. I use mine for guitar, Stu for bass which works very well and gives a nice growly tone. Stus is for sale somewhere as he's downsizing and needs the cash but I can't seem to find the thread.

What to do in Glasgow during the day this thursday
GarethFlatlands replied to steve's topic in General Discussion
Glasgow is awesome and definitely doesn't (entirely) deserve the reputation. As someone who grew up in Glasgow, I can honestly say that I've had far hairier moments in places like Sheffield, Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds than I ever had at home in Glasgow. In Manchester they had police on the night buses and in Nottingham I went through a metal detector to get into a night club---both of which are unheard of in supposedly "scary" Glasgow!!
Agreed. Now Livingstone on the other hand... -
You could always try haggling? You never know your luck!
'Letts' see how much my car repair costs me next week first. See what I did there?
-
These have been really quick, couple of months or so and with the "summer offers" represent a bargain!
You had to make me look on the website and see the really nice fretless for £500 I don't have didn't you?

I've played Glasgow a few times, we always end up parking the van in the big car park by the 13th note and checking out the little guitar shop and cafe/record shop immediately opposite. I had a wander round last time and couldn't tell you where I went but I was suprised at how cool Glasgow was. Never trust stereotypes! Really nice city and Scotland in general is very cool. I was going to go on holiday there but bought some new music gear instead. -
That does look very cool. I don't have the patience for a custom build, I'd have to put it out of my mind until it was done.

Ibanez Blazer fretless. £200
GarethFlatlands replied to solo4652's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Dont care! I'd gladly drive halfway across the country to pick that up! Truckstop
In that case, I'll pay for it, you pick it up and drop it off at my house. I may let you play it for a few minutes if you wash your hands -
There appear to be plenty of old-skool EHX pedals out there (well on eBay at least) and I was wondering whether it's worth nabbing them or not. I mean, if the new versions are just rehoused in more modern livery, then an older one should sound the same albeit 'vintage' and therefore better!
I seem to remember reading somewhere that EHX were pretty inconsistent when it came to component values, (although I can't find where I read it now) so it might be a bit of pot luck what you get. Likewise, transistors ideally need matching depending on their characteristics so you might get a great old fuzz or one made from whatever was left in the box. If the price is right and the right name is on the front, it should hold its value so I'd say go for it.
Great tidy little interfaces are these. Have one myself and haven't had any troubles with it as a fellow Windows 7 user, so don't let that put you off if you're thinking of buying it!
Cheers, it's only certain Intel i Series compatible motherboards that have the issue. As long as you can connect to a root hub as described in the article it should work fine. It's really easy to use and sounded really good when it was all behaving, the Focusrite preamps are really well thought of and I in fact replaced it with a Scarlett 2i2. Annoyingly, I was considering the Scarlett when I bought this but thought I'd go for the more expensive option
