1. Floral prints are 'in' this summer apparently.
2. Yeah, learn some theory (wish I'd done it at the start) and learn to play stuff you like which will keep you motivated. That's all I can offer, I love playing guitar and I'm sure it kept me sane through my teenage years.
3.
Some questions to help you get a better recommendation: - How much are you willing to spend? - Do you want a straight DI or a preamp/DI with some EQ? - Is your bass active or passive? - Does your Boss GT-10B have an XLR out that you can just use instead?
Really need to know the answer before I can recommend any but Dave Hall Amps is usually a good place to start looking.
4. Warp films too. I kept recognising places when I was watching 4 Lions and Kill List.
5. Actually looks like they work identically. This is from the FM4 manual:- "Here’s how it works: FREQ lets you select from a range of different patterns of sequenced wah filter positions. Turn slowly to find the preset that works best for your tune. Q sets the width of the filters. SPEED, as on the original, controls the rate (time) that it takes to cycle through the filters. MODE sets the number of filter steps in the sequence. The Seek Wah lets you choose 4, 6, or 8. The Seeker allows any choice from 2 to 9 step"
6.
but again the with the m series you can only change how many steps and there order not the tone of each step which does make it slightly less musical ? andy
That's right, the FM4 version would be much more useful if it's more flexible than the M series version. Still seems like a 1 trick pony to me but if you like it then that seems like the best route.
7.
Here are some snaps of my rare Bass 200 being serviced ready for me sometime this week I suspect (waiting on a new custom faceplate Bass 200 not to be confused with the GT200 this has 4 transformers, 4 preamps tubes and 2 full channels of goodness.
I dread to think what that weighs, the transformers are a good few kilos each. Mine has 2 and is heavy enough.
8. I've only got Ultravisitor but you've inspired me to put it on after a few years of not really listening to that kind of music. I have to tip my hat to him, he's very talented even if it's not your kind of thing, and I believe he spent a fair amount of time in Sheffield so he gets extra points for being local.
9. I personally hate it, can't think of a single musical use for it but each to their own.
10. Line 5 M series have a filter called 'Seeker' which emulates it, although you don't have individual control over each step. You select the number of steps and then cycle through a bunch of preset patterns.
11.
This is always the correct answer.
I know, but I buy pedals to make noise, not stop it.
12.
edit: can't believe I'm not allowed to say "fretw@nk". we all do it, on our basses or on our cocks.
My cock is a fretless.
13. Yeah, it would have been tons easier to work with plastic covered wire as I've got some wire strippers that make the job a breeze but obviously don't work on cloth covered stuff. I'll consider re-doing it it a cleanup doesn't sort the crackling problem out as it sounds pretty good otherwise.
14. Awesome. "Your pedal has issues". Reply - "Buy more pedals".
15. Thanks, I'll tidy up the wire with some precision scissors and give the pots a clean as I've got some switch cleaner handy. In all honesty, I just searched ebay for guitar wire and bought the stuff that was most common at the best price. It wasn't an aesthetic or a misguided 'mojo' thing, I just didn't really consider anything else. What would you recommend for future use? As for the cap, Nick on here was selling them around the time I was considering the rewire, it was the right value so I bought a couple. And to be fair, you've seen it!
16. The original active circuitry in this bass was pretty dire so I replaced the pickups with a Kent Armstrong P and J (bridge). These need adjusting as they're waaay too low (pics when I get that sorted). I also ripped out the electronics and intended to re-wire it but the large pots I bought were too big and ages ago I got round to buying 3 * 250k mini pots and a Russion PIO .47uf capacitor off Nick on here, and today I actually sat down and sorted it out. I went with a Jazz wiring layout using 22 awg cloth covered wire bought off e-bay and this is what it ended up looking like. I shielded the cavity with aluminium tape years ago with gaffa over the holes to avoid shorting. Not the neatest job ever (cloth covered wire is annoying to strip back without a decent precision blade) and trying to solder 4 separate wires and one leg of the massive capacitor to the case of the tone knob was a mission, but I plugged it in and it worked. Annoyingly the volume pots crackle when turned for some reason but it sounds really good when you've settled on a sound. Once the pickup height issue is sorted and a new set of strings bunged on and it should sound a lot better.
17. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgxDPW1cCtI Both have probably been mentioned already but maybe not.
18. Some friends of mine run a website that was originally very stoner/doom oriented at http://www.ninehertz.co.uk/ Might be worth trawling through the reviews on there if you want to find something new. A few recommendations would be Beehoover, Witchsorrow and a +1 for Stubb. Anyone mentioned Sleep yet?
19.
I like the bass he was using for their early live stuff, looked like a Jazz with a P p-up added between the Js
Is that the homemade looking one with no logo on the headstock? I agree about his playing, it never jumps out at you as being flashy but you listen closely there's a lot of good stuff going on. From the looks of it he grew up in the middle of nowhere and presumably practiced a lot out of lack of anything else to do.
20. Anyone watch this on BBC4 last night? 'Ten' was the first album I ever bought with my own money and while I haven't bought an album since 'Yield', this was still an interesting look back at their career. It was also fun to spot some of Jeffs nice basses, including a very nice fretless Wal and a nice looking old P he cracks out when jamming to Ramones records.
21. I love my Carbon Copy but I wish it had tap tempo. I'm not a fan of EHX stuff so if I had to replace the MXR I'd have a look at the TC Electronic stuff or an Akai Headrush.
22. There's a DHA VT1 V3 on sale on here for £50 but a Jackhammer for £21 is also a bargain. Let us know how it is on bass.
23. Just ordered a BYOC kit for their Ampeg Scrambler clone (fuzz and octave up) for something to build for my week off. Should kill an afternoon nicely I'll post some clips when it's up and running as I couldn't find any good ones on youtube for bass.
24. I think any cheap well known brand compressor will do you if you're just looking for something simple so I'd go for whichever one you can get for the least money. If after you've lived with it for a while you find it lacking or wish it had a certain feature then you can trawl through ovnilabs or ask on here for pointers. Personally if I had to buy another to replace my BYOC I'd look at the Carl Martin Opto-Stomp or a 2nd hand Boss CS-2.
25. Great price on the M5, mine sits between my distortion and Carbon Copy for all my modulation/noise making fun needs.
