And The Vines. NME used to have some stupid story about them in every week too until their 2nd album came out and they had to admit that they weren't actually very good. As for Del Ray, nice looking girl and the music I heard on a TV advert was fairly inoffensive. I probably wouldn't turn it off if it came on the radio (assuming she's on Classic or Jazz FM which is mostly what I listen to) but I wasn't impressed really. I find Ed Sheeran much more annoying.

Building a 100W Valve amp - undecided on name as of yet!

Name wise, how about "Noisy 'un"? -
Theres two fuzzes i still want to try... 1) sovtek muff. 2) human gear animato Not game for dropping 500 quid though...
A company called Fredric effects does a Russian Muff clone for £85. I use one of their harmonic percolators on guitar and love it so might be worth a punt.
I've got the Ruiner and the Spectacular Aenima - they're pretty wild. The Ruiner is too much on its own bit sounds flipping ace blended with clean. The Aenima's a bit too thin for much on bass but is the best lead guitar solo pedal I've ever heard, proper biting
Thanks, decided massive fuzz doesn't suit my playing style so the VFM is on sale on here.

Awesome, looking forward to hearing it this Friday assuming you're gigging it? -
Devi Ever Vintage Fuzz Master

I had an XL for just over a year and really liked it but the small keys and need for programming to get the most out of it put me off. Some great bass presets already in there though, incluing one our PA struggled with. If I hadn't needed the money I'd have kept it. Ended up with a Triton LE which has a lot of usable presets including a couple of good pianos and a load of drum sounds which the XL lacks.

Taken ill whilst playing a gig
GarethFlatlands replied to Floyd Pepper's topic in General Discussion
I've played a couple of gigs sat on chairs due to flu. Worst one was when my stomach problems flared up and I just sat on the floor hitting pedals with my hand as it was too painful to stand up, plus I thought I was going to mess myself. Only 3 occasions I can remember thankfully! -
I bought this for g****r but I use a lot of weird chord voicings and fuzz just doesn't work with them. This did sound awesome with single notes and power chords but I don't use those things enough. It's bascially a fuzz built to sound like old school recordings meaning you don't need a cranked tube amp to get the best out of it as with some vintage units. "“This doesn’t sound like a vintage fuzz!” you might be saying to yourself. Well that is why it’s called the Vintage Fuzz MASTER. Back in the day when I was looking for a really wild fuzz sound I heard in the most insane of Jimi Hendrix performances, or psychadelic noise freak outs of the 60′s and 70′s, it seemed that all the pedals people were recommending just weren’t cutting it. That’s because a lot of those old fuzz sounds were created by combining fuzz faces or tone benders with high gain marshall stacks recorded at insane volumes. The Vintage Fuzz Master is my solution to the conundrum of wanting to have that sound in a tiny package. All the madness of vintage fuzz into a high gain amp with out the hassle of carrying around a stack with you. It was good enough for Trent Reznor. It’ll be fine what you need out of a fuzz." - Devi Ever FX I'm a bit gutted about having to sell it as it's a great sounding unit but not for the way I play and they were really friendly and helpful when I emailed them. Bought direct from Devi Ever and with a stupid customs charge on top it came to around £82. It's been used for literally 30-40 minutes at practice until I accepted it wasn't working out so I'm looking for £75 posted.

Found this interview:- http://www.myspace.com/chris_ford/blog/290802854 About halfway down and following on from the previous question about the sound on 'Lost Keys' "What's the distortion that's always on? The TurboRAT. When I play live, one cab has some distortion, and the other one's very clean. The SansAmp is one of my overdriven distortions, the other is the Colorsound Tonebender Fuzz. I have to have that on now when we do the song live, and I have to be standing in exactly the right spot to get that effect."
Also I think tone bender is only used on Jambi...........nut not 100% sure on that
I think I read it was used for the wailing feedback on 'Lost Keys' but I'd have to check. Anyone tried Devi Ever stuff on bass? I bought a Vintage Fuzz Master for guitar but it doesn't suit my delicate jazz chords.

Ordered mine off ebay on 29 December, just chewing through the desk now waiting for it to arrive! Pedalboard will be:- Boss TU2 BYOC compressor DHA VT1 DHA DI-EQ Should all look reassuringly homemade (apart from the Boss) and sound great.
-
The only effect I ever used with any regularity on bass was a bit of chorus, and these days I just run tuner > compressor > overdrive > DI. It's a combination of things for me. I don't really like envelope effects and the number of other bass specific effects (or guitar ones that work with bass without compromising tone or requiring a blend pedal) seem relatively few. And I'm too lazy/poor to mess around too much with my setup. I can see why other players use them but if I want textures I'll generally move to a synth and keep the bass for uncluttered low end. Guitar effects are another story.

I'd have loaned you mine but I'm not going to the practice room until Wednesay and it's a bit tight in posting/receiving it.

OK, thanks. I think I got mixed up between the connection your pedals used and the reverse polarity of certain fuzzes. Good to know a JSF power supply should work and I don't have to spend a load of powering my pedals.

USB audio interface or new soundcard?
GarethFlatlands replied to dave_bass5's topic in Accessories and Misc
I used to have a V-amp, great little unit. I did my last demo using it. It did start to go funny after a while, all the presets went haywire. I did replace the battery but it didnt seem to last long.
Did you try a factory reset? My POD went strange and sat in a draw for months until I tried a reset, seems to work fine now. -
Anyone know if a Jonnyshredfreak supply will cope with the following pedals:- Boss TU2 > BYOC optical compressor > DHA VT1 > DHA DI/EQ The last 2 with the reverse polarity adaptors? Or is mixing 2 different polarity pedals a bad idea?

You had a look at the Lexicon Alpha? It's around £50, I was looking at one when I thought my Mackie Spike had died (turns out it was just the power adaptor). Seems to be pretty simple and accepts guitar inputs direct. Never used one so can't comment on how good they are but something to consider. -
Sweet. How you finding the compressor? I'm building a Ross clone at the minute with a few mods for Bass so interested to know!
I'm not really sure about the finer details of compression so Stu tried it tonight for about 15 minutes (he mixed/mastered our last couple of EPs and trained at Red Tape so knows about that kind of thing) and seemed very impressed with it. With the compression on minimum it still gave a bit of clack to the pick attack and was pretty subtle until around 1-2 o'clock. I look forward to giving it a more thorough play with. Very pleased my first build worked 1st time, got the pedal building bug now.
Glossy and Matte photo papers both work well and I've got decent results with both. I've tried a variety of glues and you know what worked better than anything? A well sanded box and Pritt-Stick. Not kidding, goddam Pritt-Stick. A thin coating on the box and a thin coating on the paper and you're laughing. Smooth it out gently with a credit card. There will be better ways, I'm sure, but that works well for me. Plastikote Super Clear does a decent job over the top, just make sure you get your coats numerous and uber-thin. Fewer but thicker coats just don't look as good.
Cheers Tom, gone down the dymo label route for the time being as the pedal is working and I don't want to dismantle it unnecessarily. Something to bear in mind for the future if I can find an image the right size.

I've seen an Ampeg 8 by 10 in the back of an older model Corsa so yeah, it should be possible.

Built! My first pedal build so it took a long time, 4 hours+. Made a couple of mistakes and had to wrestle with the unclear instructions near the end, as well as a slightly too high up drill hole for the footswitch. Learnt a lot through the mistakes though. Threw a 9 volt in, plugged it into the POD and... nothing. Bypass was fine, no sound with the pedal on. Massive panic averted when I realised I'd set both controls to zero, including the volume. Duh. It sounded pretty good with the guitar as my bass was at the practice room, look forward to giving it a proper try out next practice.

Does anyone know how you'd go about doing a simple cover for an effects pedal like the Deviever pedals? I guess a simple design printed off onto regular paper but I'm not sure what to stick it to the metal or sealing/lacquer it with.
