1. Picked it up from the post office today so looks like a weekend build as I'm off to the cinema before too long today. I want at least half a day to assemble it to try and avoid mistakes, plus I want to go to Maplin and invest in some decent wire strippers and an LED for the pedal that isn't red.
2. I really must try and get to Oktoberfest at some point. The amp looks good too.....
3.
That sounds like a microscopic pedalboard Seriously though, it sounds like a good idea if you're good at that sort of thing.
It would go well with the 8" high Stonehenge we have on stage. Seriously, I'd agree with the DIY option. If I weren't terrible at woodwork that's the route I'd be going down, it's dirt cheap and you'd have cash left over for a decent synth bag/flight case to put it in.
4. I'm based about an hour from the factory, if anyone speaks to Jeff and he asks for any volunteers to test the new head out, feel free to mention my name! I use a GT1 and kept banging on about it to several musician friends, 2 of which subsequently went out and bought Matamps.
5.
At the price it's hard to beat. Not perfect, few flaws in the finish on mine but plays alright. Synthetic bone nut is just a hard plastic jobbie . I would tart it up but I can't play so I'll not waste the money yet .
I'd be tempted but the neck and bridge pickups look fairly niche models (oddly slanted and mini firebird type humbucker) and therefore more expensive to swap out. Never been a fan of the epi pickups I've heard.
6. The cab was a loan from a friend, I use a Line 6 2 by 12 with a couple of Celestions bunged in as the original speakers were terrible. Guitar wise:- Fender Jazzmaster (sunburst) Gibson Les Paul Standard (black) Ibanez Les Paul (black) Pedalboard (currently):- Ernie Ball volume pedal Fredric Effects Harmonic Percolator Line 6 M5 MXR Carbon Copy Also got a Deviever Vintage Fuzz Master I have yet to try out
7. You got a price in mind?
8. I'm without a DI at the moment but got a DHA DI-EQ on order so I can't consider this. Shame, as it's a bargain and looks like a useful bit of kit. Good luck with the sale.
9. You need to take their delivery times with a grit bin of salt, mine was a couple of weeks out and my friend Stu's was more like 6. If £400 is the price for a decent bass head, I'm starting saving.
10. Yeah, I'm a RAT fan and have been considering a Mighty Mouse build for ages but this seemed like a more sensible choice as I have 4 fuzz/distortion pedals already, including a modded RAT. If anyone wants a review, let me know what settings to try and what to listen out for as I'm going to get my bandmate to set it up for me as the nuances of compression confuse me immensely.
11. Ordered! Looking forward to building it and trying it out.
12. Yeah, I'd forgotten about Ovnilabs until I'd posted and subsequently had a look. Optical is looking like the best choice, which is good as it's the 2nd cheapest of the kits. I don't do slap or massive dynamic changes so it should suit me fine. Thanks.
13. Haha, good plug! I'm sorted for delays thanks, got a Carbon Copy for set and forget analog sounds and a Line 6 M5 for other noises.
14. I've decided that I need a compressor and was looking at the BYOC stuff as I've wanted to build a pedal for ages and I've got a few days off work next week in which to do so. There seems like 3 different types, 5 knob, classic (both based on the Ross compressor) and optical. Does anyone have any thoughts as to which one would suit bass best or first hand experience with any of them?
15. From what I understand of the Freeze, it smooths out whatever you played into a continuous tone although I may be wrong. I'm too lazy to check the demo video. You can also get the sound Graham Coxon makes at the end of each verse riff on Blurs 'On Your Own' with the DD3. 1st 3 controls on full, the last one on the shortest delay setting.
16. Don't quote me on this but I beleive the POD XT allows you to download extra amp sims, including bass ones to the standard red guitar model. Edit - apologies, someone already mentioned the X3 above which I didn't grasp was the upgraded version. Might be worth checking as you might be able to track down an XT for cheaper?
17. The ancient Boss DD3 has a hold function that does between 12.5ms and 800ms. Works in a fairly similar way to the pedal in the vid, set it to the hold function, set your delay time and it will record/loop the last thing you played for as long as the pedal is held down.
18. I play guitar mainly but would prefer basschat if it stuck to bass. It seems a lot more laid back and less childish (apart from the odd inflammatory thread) than most guitar forums. If anyone's got a guitar specific question, it's usually flagged up in the thread title and people always help out.
19.
Jack 15 (2515 driver, no tweets) in Sheffield, just outside the centre. Only just picked it up (I haven't the time or tools to do it myself!) and giving it a running in, but by the weekend it will be in our rehearsal room and people are welcome to have a crack if they want.
How much did it set you back Tom?
20. Great, thanks. I'll get one ordered.
21.
Afraid not, I bought one of these for six quid but now use it for my VT2.
Sorry to go a little OT but I assume this power supply doesn't have any hum issues with with either the VT1 or 2 as you're still using it? I got a VT1 and the supply that came with it was a cheap one that was really noisy and am looking for a better replacement.
22. That's cool, my audio interface is a bit shaky with plugging stuff straight in so I'm hoping it will sort that as well as giving me a nice tone I can transfer between rigs.
23. It's really difficult to get a handle on at first, I can only hope it gets easier. But it looks cool if that helps.
24. Argh, broadband provider now switched and I will endeavour to check out all the suggestions. Thanks again peeps.
25. I've got the VT1 but not had chance to have a good play around with it. Seems like it needs a bit of tweaking and a good power supply to work noise free but I was very impressed when I tried it through my computer through an amp sim. So impressed, I pulled the trigger on a DI>EQ today to complete my simple pedalboard.
