1. Nor would I. There's a nice spalted maple one on e-bay at the moment, lets see how the MOT goes on Thursday....
2. Other microphones are available!
3. They seem ridiculously cheap! What's the catch?
4. Very nice! How much did it set you back if you don't mind me asking?
5. Re-post from a friend on a different board:- "My bass amp died in a puff of smoke and dead transistor last week. In a perfect world I'd grab an early 70s Ampeg SVT but with my meagre resources that's not going to happen. However, I need a good loud bass amp (preferably valve) and stumbled across this, anyone had any experiences (good/ bad/ indifferent) of the Ashton (Australia) BV300 head? I only know that Ashton make cheapo guitars. The name put me off a bit but the amp is 300 watts (6 x KT88s) of valves for £300! I'm very tempted but would appreciate any info." Thanks peeps.
6.
What's the differences between the deluxe and the normal programmable BDDI?
The deluxe can take 2 basses with 3 channels each or 6 for 1 bass. It also has a parallel/tuner out and a switchable FX loop. Otherwise, they're the same.
7. Shameless plug but mine is for sale on ebay at the moment and is the deluxe version. You can bypass the tone with a single click and it's pretty clean as stated. It does low gain dirt very well but the high gain tones aren't great unless the blend control is pretty low.
8. Sansamp now on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sansamp-Programmable-BDDI-Deluxe-bass-DI-pedal-/120781205167?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item1c1f1eeeaf
9. I want the phaser as I believe it's the one used in 'Luminance' by Cave In. Love the phaser sound in that song.
10.
Any bass amp/combo will do. You don't have to worry about feedback with an EUB so you can use a 8x10 if you like.
I had some feedback with the Harley Benton due to the large semi hollow body and the amp on the floor aiming straight at it, I don't think the Stagg will have the same problem due to the construction. But yeah, any normal bass amp will do fine and th HB should meet your needs.
11. It's the first one I borrowed and played, it was playable and a decent introduction to the world of electric uprights. One problem was with the bridge producing strange and nasty sounding harmonics on certain notes (1st E on the A string) that was easily solved by wedging a jumper under the bridge, although a tennis ball or similar works fine, stays in place better and is a little neater. After that, it was ready to go and I recorded a few tracks with it. The rubber strip is another modification and I believe sits between the bridge and the pickup to produce a more DB sound but isn't essential. In all, I'd recommend them for a beginner looking to try an EUB, especially if you can pick one up cheap.
12. The prototype surely just needs sketching out, breadboarding and tweaking? Even with the specialist parts and custom circuit boards it presumably needs, unlike a fuzz where a handful of components and some perf/stripboard can build you a circuit, 20 grand seems like a lot. But then I'm not a businessman. Maybe Devi Ever needs to hit Dragons Den.
13.
I was just pissing about, I'm sure it's patented, it's a good idea but the price point is ridiculous.
Yeah, not really sure what 20k gets you. You can either make the pedal or you can't and circuit boards can't cost that much can they?
14. Does the extra mass and area where neck meets body give you better sustain than a double cut?
15. I'm selling a couple of pedals, the first of which is:- Digitech Hardwire RV-7 Stereo Reverb. Boxed with the stomplock but missing the instructions and with the velcro on the bottom. It has been gigged but always secured on a decent pedalboard, has a few small chips to the paint on the bottom right underside but otherwise is in very good condition. Retail on these seems to be about £120 so £70 plus £3 P&P sounds about fair. No photos as my camera is awful but the webpage is here. One of the control housings (I forget which) is a little loose and spins freely if you turn it too hard but still functions and isn't a problem unless you need to quickly change settings on the fly. Very nice sounding reverb but a little subtle for me and I find I'm not using it much since my M5 came along. I'd also consider trading for a decent distortion so feel free to make an offer. Secondly and lastly, my Sansamp Programmable BDDI Deluxe. The flagship Sansamp bass DI, classic Ampeg sound and very functional. Accepts 2 basses with 3 channels for each, or 6 channels for 1 bass, switchable effects loop and parallel out as well as other stuff you find on a good DI. The guy who owned it before me screwed it into the flight case you see in the picture and wrote on it in paint which I'm not attempting to try and get off. The case is included and has the power supply you can see behind the pedal which powers the pedal itself, the LED strip in the top of the case and a spare connector which I had my TU-2 plugged into. There's even a little pouch for the instructions. You are, of course, free to liberate the pedal and do with it what you will but for me who doesn't really use effects, the tuner > Sansamp setup in one case was very useful. Bad picture here from my terrible camera. It's complete overkill for me so I'm downsizing to an MXR M80 which I got on here and suits my simple needs better. RRP on these beasts is around £260 but bearing in mind the fact it's been painted on and had 2 small holes drilled for the board mounting, £140 seems fair. Postage, it's pretty big and heavy in the case so call it £5 I'll pay any excess. UK sales preferred as shipping overseas makes me nervous. Any questions, please ask. Sensible offers considered.
16.
I still use mine, but with an exP pedal. Set to modes 10&11, I get some really great swell/ sweeps
I can't remember what mode I used but I reckon it would be decent with an exp pedal. Do you have a choice of which parameters to control or is it fixed?
17. There was one in a recording studio and I got it onto a track working behind another bass to provide some oddness, but I didn't like most of the settings and I was on my knees tweaking the controls between notes to make it interesting. I can't see I'd ever buy one.
18.
Yeah using a white Jim Dunlop bass wah. Whats the low pass filter pedal you use?
Both LPF and Bass Murf are Moog according to the thread below. I mentioned the bass Wah as I think that's what Tim Commerfeld uses in Rage Against the Machine and gets a similar distorted wah tone on a couple of tracks.
19. If I thought I could move my Artisan on quickly I'd have dibs on this but I've had no luck selling stuff recently so can't risk it. Have a bump anyway.
20. My first thought was wah and a little distortion, are you using a proper bass model wah or the normal guitar one? I reckon a decent manually sweepable filter should be able to get you close, I don't have any experience with such things as filters don't suit the kind of music I play. I know the Moog pedals have expression pedal inputs but they're pricey, there's a thorough thread about them on here. Pantherairsoft seems to have the filter models, might be worth asking him if such a sound is possible. Edit for grammars.
21. That makes more sense given the company background. Seems like expression pedal control is pretty much a must with them by the sounds of it.
22. A pickup close to the bridge will give you a tighter sound but not as much dynamic response as one closer to the middle point between bridge and fretboard. It also depends where you play the string in terms of right hand response. I play a Warwick with 2 single coils around 1/4 of the way between bridge and neck and I like the sound when my rick hand is around halfway to 3/4 from bridge to neck but it's all personal choice.
23. In fairness, it might just be me. I have trouble if I've not pre selected the right patch on my M5 before each song.
24. What's his budget? There's some very nice NS EUBs in the for sale section but if it's a proper DB he's after he might be looking at spending quite a bit.
