1. Does the extra mass and area where neck meets body give you better sustain than a double cut?
2. I'm selling a couple of pedals, the first of which is:- Digitech Hardwire RV-7 Stereo Reverb. Boxed with the stomplock but missing the instructions and with the velcro on the bottom. It has been gigged but always secured on a decent pedalboard, has a few small chips to the paint on the bottom right underside but otherwise is in very good condition. Retail on these seems to be about £120 so £70 plus £3 P&P sounds about fair. No photos as my camera is awful but the webpage is here. One of the control housings (I forget which) is a little loose and spins freely if you turn it too hard but still functions and isn't a problem unless you need to quickly change settings on the fly. Very nice sounding reverb but a little subtle for me and I find I'm not using it much since my M5 came along. I'd also consider trading for a decent distortion so feel free to make an offer. Secondly and lastly, my Sansamp Programmable BDDI Deluxe. The flagship Sansamp bass DI, classic Ampeg sound and very functional. Accepts 2 basses with 3 channels for each, or 6 channels for 1 bass, switchable effects loop and parallel out as well as other stuff you find on a good DI. The guy who owned it before me screwed it into the flight case you see in the picture and wrote on it in paint which I'm not attempting to try and get off. The case is included and has the power supply you can see behind the pedal which powers the pedal itself, the LED strip in the top of the case and a spare connector which I had my TU-2 plugged into. There's even a little pouch for the instructions. You are, of course, free to liberate the pedal and do with it what you will but for me who doesn't really use effects, the tuner > Sansamp setup in one case was very useful. Bad picture here from my terrible camera. It's complete overkill for me so I'm downsizing to an MXR M80 which I got on here and suits my simple needs better. RRP on these beasts is around £260 but bearing in mind the fact it's been painted on and had 2 small holes drilled for the board mounting, £140 seems fair. Postage, it's pretty big and heavy in the case so call it £5 I'll pay any excess. UK sales preferred as shipping overseas makes me nervous. Any questions, please ask. Sensible offers considered.
3.
I still use mine, but with an exP pedal. Set to modes 10&11, I get some really great swell/ sweeps
I can't remember what mode I used but I reckon it would be decent with an exp pedal. Do you have a choice of which parameters to control or is it fixed?
4. There was one in a recording studio and I got it onto a track working behind another bass to provide some oddness, but I didn't like most of the settings and I was on my knees tweaking the controls between notes to make it interesting. I can't see I'd ever buy one.
5.
Yeah using a white Jim Dunlop bass wah. Whats the low pass filter pedal you use?
Both LPF and Bass Murf are Moog according to the thread below. I mentioned the bass Wah as I think that's what Tim Commerfeld uses in Rage Against the Machine and gets a similar distorted wah tone on a couple of tracks.
6. If I thought I could move my Artisan on quickly I'd have dibs on this but I've had no luck selling stuff recently so can't risk it. Have a bump anyway.
7. My first thought was wah and a little distortion, are you using a proper bass model wah or the normal guitar one? I reckon a decent manually sweepable filter should be able to get you close, I don't have any experience with such things as filters don't suit the kind of music I play. I know the Moog pedals have expression pedal inputs but they're pricey, there's a thorough thread about them on here. Pantherairsoft seems to have the filter models, might be worth asking him if such a sound is possible. Edit for grammars.
8. That makes more sense given the company background. Seems like expression pedal control is pretty much a must with them by the sounds of it.
9. A pickup close to the bridge will give you a tighter sound but not as much dynamic response as one closer to the middle point between bridge and fretboard. It also depends where you play the string in terms of right hand response. I play a Warwick with 2 single coils around 1/4 of the way between bridge and neck and I like the sound when my rick hand is around halfway to 3/4 from bridge to neck but it's all personal choice.
10. In fairness, it might just be me. I have trouble if I've not pre selected the right patch on my M5 before each song.
11. What's his budget? There's some very nice NS EUBs in the for sale section but if it's a proper DB he's after he might be looking at spending quite a bit.
12. This thread is making my head hurt! Whatever happened to pedals where you set the knobs and stomped on?
13.
That's it, if there's anything else you need to know just ask.
Yeah, where were all these NS WAVs a couple of months ago when I was looking for an EUB!
14. Couldn't resist posting this at the mention of wobble bass. Go to 1:13.
15. They were discussed in this thread here late last year:- http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=102528&st=0 The guy from Source audio commented as well, I hope it's of some use. I was looking at the flanger for a while but moved on to the Line 6 M5 instead. Seems like there's a few owners of SA products on here so someone should be able to help.
16. What's his budget? Line 6 M5 might be an option, 25 presets which you can fill with delays and other stuff besides. I use my Carbon Copy for general subtle tone thickening (read: sloppy playing mask) and the Line 6 for more prominent tap tempo delay and other stuff depending on the song.
17.
Could be interested if you decide to sell.
Might be selling mine if I like the MXR, the Sansamp is too much for what I use it for.
18. Apart from a blast on Finbars Shuker P, I've never played one that wasn't an Encore. Sorry state of affairs I know. I always hear the bass sound on the 1st Glassjaw album as the essential P bass tone. Maybe if I sell some stuff I'll get a decent 2nd hand one as it seems to be the law to own one.
19.
Thanks Giblett your comments are very much appreciated :-) This one has a customer, i have only just taken this lutherie malarky up again after a long long gap, anyhoo... i was intending to build one or two for sale this year and maybe another EUB
That's a shame, your previous EUB build looked really good, as does this. I was going to ask how much you'd charge for an EUB as well. Good luck with the move anyway, hope you get settled and back to making basses as soon as.

Bass DI

I've got the Sansamp BDDI Deluxe and an MXR on the way. I'm going to try the MXR and will let you know how the 2 compare when it arrives and sell the one I like least. Lots of threads on these but the Sansamp is basically Ampeg tone in a DI box. It sounds good but colours your signal and compresses the tone a bit which is why I guess FOH engineers like it. I use mine for recording (had a few complements on how convenient it was and on the sound) and into the front end of a cheap Peavey combo to make it sound better. Never used the Tonehammer, I really wanted one but couldn't find any and bought the Sansamp instead. Typically, 2 turned up straight after on here!
21.
+1 I've used 1 set every year and I abuse them all the time, tying them up, throwing around + our drummer uses them for gigging with our click track from the iPod (not mine, his own set) They have really good bass responses for a cheaper model of earphones, and best of all you can get em for around £13-£16 on eBay.
+2 Best headphones I've ever had, come with their own bag for protection when not in use too. I paid around £15 from Ebay but watch for fakes as they're the SM58 of cheap in ear headphones.
22. PM'd....
23.
I've just PM'd you mate!
Doh! Dibs if it falls through for any reason.
24.
Do we want to know how you know that
I never tried it, just looked into it after Virgin and HMV both forgot to remove the tabs after I legitimately purchased Mad Men season 1 and Crysis. I had a spare HDD lying around but it wasn't dead so I didn't dismantle it, just took them back with the receipts and they removed them. Never seem to see the tabs these days.
25. Hard drive magents are very strong and pretty small. You can use 2 to remove those annoying red tabs in DVD cases if the shop forgets to take them off. That said, you would have to buy hard drives for this and each magnet would cost you £20 minimum....
