Looks like I'll still be lugging the heavy stuff for a while longer as the 'Fizzy' sound is back and is also linked with turning the master volume control. Although it sounds like a scratchy pot the note can also have a sizzle to it without even turning the volume control.

My 16 year old Ford Focus estate bit the dust last year and as I also have a Mazda Mx5 bought at the same time but hardly used (only just clocked 12,000 miles) I decided against buying another car and get some use out of the Mazda. Ok, I can't get my main rig in it (Ampeg 3-Pro and 6x10), but by taking out the passenger seat I can get my Hartke Kickback 15 or a 2x10 and TE 350 SMX in. I do some gigs with a band with a van so that can take care of the Ampeg stuff. Anyway, I decided I could do with reducing the weight and after reading some of the reviews on here I thought I would give the Bugera a try, for £208 it wouldn't break the bank. It arrived yesterday. On unpacking it I found it was freezing cold so I left it for an hour or so to acclimatise before powering up. I tried it on a 2X10 and noticed a 'fizz' to the sound, I hadn't used the cab for a few months but it was ok at that time, I checked all connections were sound but this 'fizz' was still there but it gradually faded away and did not come back even after turning the amp off for a while. Did it just need running in? I took it to a gig in Manchester last night and after setting up my Ampeg SVT3-Pro and 6x10 I hooked up the Bugera and was impressed by the sound (still no fizz), I felt I could get a similar sound to my Ampeg and that it could also go too loud. I swopped back to the SVT for the gig but I'm looking forward to using it at some smaller gigs I do.

Araldite Rapid.

The pivot hole being so near the edge, the roll pin being an interference fit and the pressure of that big spring does not a good design make.

From the LaBella M42 page http://www.labella.com/products/m42-stainless-rounds-custom-light-40-100/ ...though with the fact that they don't seem to be available anywhere anymore, you may be right.

1968 Gibson EBO Short Scale String Recommendation
goingdownslow replied to rumblefish's topic in Accessories and Misc
I have been using LaBella M42S on my EB3 but I am trying to source a new supplier after the demise of Stringbusters, the only place I had been able to get them. Unless someone knows of another source. -
Stringbusters were the only place I could get LaBella M42S strings from. I settled on them after trying a few other brands and have only one set left. Does anyone know of another source for LaBella short scale roundwounds 40-60-80-100?

This happened to one of mine about two years ago, I enquired over a replacement part but they sent me a new stand. Not being one who likes waste I set to repair it by making a U shaped bracket using a thin metal strip ( it was the strap from an electrical earth clip I had knocking around) and araldited it in. I have been using it since, new one is still in the box.

The links in the OP have changed, hopefully these should work... https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:QdjVfOZPCgkJ:https://www.gibson.com/Guitar/USACYC512/les-paul-junior-tribute-dc-bass-coming-soon+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:E27TEnec_R8J:https://www.gibson.com/Guitar/USAKUC232/Thunderbird-Bass-Coming-Soon+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk I wonder what happened to the association with Babicz ? I thought it a far better bridge than what they have gone back to.

Do this if you are getting moulded earplugs

What was it? -
Sorry, I was put on a bum steer with the wrong schematic, I was given HA1200 instead of HS1200. 1uf NP capacitor checks out fine.

I have hopefully tracked a crackling/noise fault in my Hartke Kickback combo to a capacitor, when I touch/tap it with a plastic rod it gives me the fault. I have reflowed the solder joint but it made no difference, so I will replace it. What is puzzling me is on the circuit diagram the capacitor, C102, has 100p, same as C103 but the components are marked different, C102(the one to be replaced) has 1uF and C103 has 47uF. Am I right thinking I need to get a 1uF 50vdc non polarised capacitor? What does 100p mean?

NCD! Ampeg 810 fridge to complete the SVT
goingdownslow replied to Bob Lord's topic in Amps and Cabs
Maybe we should campaign for venues to be fridge friendly and have ramps and lifts installed. About 20 years ago I bought an empty battered svt cab as a project and only having a saloon car I cut it in half so had the choice of 4x10 or 8x10 but it was still a heavy lift. After a few years I looked at cutting them down further but it was not practical and I made some 2x10 B&Q cabs of the same volume, but all the extra tops and bottoms made it look huge and I only ever used it as a 6x10 setup. Now using an SVT610Hlf. -
What are must know songs for Jam nights ?

Remember to bring Red House to an end before it becomes Red Housing Estate. -

There should be a very noticeable difference between the two positions, volume and tone wise. If you are only getting the 'one' sound I couldn't say without hearing whether it is the Baritone or the choked sound you are getting.

'Vintage' Warwick (82 - 96); neck / relief / truss rod issue
goingdownslow replied to warwickhunt's topic in Bass Guitars
My '91 Thumb Bass always had a very low action, could have been considered as too low but it was playable so I never touched it. A year or so ago I did a dep job with a band that tuned down a half step and that's when I noticed a bit of fret buzz. The next time I played with this band I thought I would set up my bass pre-gig but could get no relief on the neck. In fact there had been no tension on the rod at all. I removed the rod (1-way alloy, lefty-tighty, righty-loosy) and reversed it, tensioned it and it did the trick. Needed no adjustment when returned to correct pitch. -
Ohmage! It's disgusting!

I have few interests and I'm not passionate over any of them, I just do it for self enjoyment. I have never considered myself to be a musician, there are styles of music I can't stand and have no interest in what they are about. I don't listen to music on the radio as they play too much of what I don't like. I only have a small (dated) cd collection, most of which are just digital replacements of my old vinyl albums. Was never into the head banging rock scene, everyone's 'standards' were not mine although I played them after listening to them. I have managed to get by for nearly 50 years, (still got my '64 EB3 that was 5 years old when I bought it) playing mostly what I like playing, and still make a few bob doing it. I like living in the past*. * Along with most of Jethro Tull.

Big price drops on all TC Electronic gear
goingdownslow replied to CameronJ's topic in General Discussion
Do Andertons know of this price drop... Spectradrive £215, most other dealers £137. https://www.andertons.co.uk/bass-dept/bass-guitar-effects/bass-overdrive-pedals/tc-electronics-spectradrive-bass-preamp-line-driver -
Where was the concert, who was he playing with?

Because some of the jam night goers would never have given it a second look and thought I had just brought a cheap bass for them to use.

Looking for a cheap bass to use as the house bass at jam nights I bought a new Redwood Jazz Bass (Dawsons brand) for £99. After transforming it with a £5 headstock decal users have commented on how good it sounds and how nice it is to play, even saying it sounds better than the other Fenders that may be there on the night. And that's when I tell them what it is. I have been offered £5 over the current Dawsons price of £129. I have never owned or had any interest in owning a Fender bass.
