  1. A bit of rough stone. The striking edge of a matchbox. A nail file from girlfriends bag.
  2. Where is the green and red/yellow wire going?
  3. This has reminded me of the cracked skin on my hands when working on construction sites in the '60s when this was what most workers used... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Optima-GSL-30300200A-SNOWFIRE-Ointment/dp/B001RYOOPA
  4. Not a Jaco fan but I did like his playing on Ian Hunters album of which this is the title track...
  5. Wrongly. Never remove the protective earth connection, the chances are it could end up being used on some faulty equipment.
  6. One to argue that tungsten watts are brighter than led watts?
  7. I've just changed the PP3 in my go-to Warwick only 'cause I had some new ones and I had put the date on when installed, it was July 2015 and it was still tasting salty. It'll find a use in something else.
  8. The pivot hole being so near the edge, the roll pin being an interference fit and the pressure of that big spring does not a good design make.
  9. After my estate car biting the dust last year and only having an MX5 with the passenger seat removed to fit a small cab in I miss having this behind me. I do a dep job with a band with a van occasionally so it gets the cobwebs blown off.
  10. Agree, if I stand 50 feet away from my cab it does not sound as loud as standing next to it.
  11. The 12Ω and 8Ω cabs in parallel will give you 4.8 Ω.
  12. But has it been stolen if Gibson still have it?
  13. The noise when turning the master volume control whilst playing is still there but doesn't affect the sound otherwise. May be a 'design faultfeature'. One thing I have noticed is that I have to use the -15db setting (never use the pad on my other amps) as without it even with the gain low it clips very easily and sounds compressed/squashed (compressor off), is this the 'Dynamizer Technology'? Overall I am happy with the amp and will be keeping it. It is now my mini rig, paired with a recently purchased TC RS212.
  14. In the mid '70s I bought a replacement 'Gibson' mudbucker from Top Gear in Denmark Street, it sounded nothing like the original and when I measured its dc resistance it was 1.5kΩ not the 29-31kΩ that it should have done. I doubt if it was a genuine Gibson as I have never had a Gibson bass with one of these pickups that ever measured less than 29kΩ. I have one from a 60's Epi Rivoli that measures 30kΩ.
  15. I have recently noticed I can not now see forum profile cover photos using IE11. They can be seen using Chrome but it's not my preferred browser. Is this a forum thing or has MS been messing with IE.
  16. Here is an example of Polymorph used to fashion a fader cap on a cocktail stick. This was based on the flat type on my SMX, takes less than a minute. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thermoworx-Polymorph-mouldable-eco-friendly-thermoplastic/dp/B06XXQ4CZJ/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_lp_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=YFSA6HK71XPX056X6BCG
  17. I have used this stuff to mould small plastic parts. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thermoworx-Polymorph-mouldable-eco-friendly-thermoplastic/dp/B06XY2HX2Y/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_bs_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=SFGMZEB49VDGEM4NJ2S5
  18. In the first pic the yellow (horn) and black with white tape on (speaker + ?) look to be crossed, but if it is working....
  19. Are they working? The wiring to the pc board doesn't look right.
  20. Back to the drawing board. No crackling on setting up no matter how hard I play but soon as the first number starts it goes crazy.
  21. Had a poke and fiddle with the headphone jack whilst playing and couldn't get it to crackle but I've now given the socket a spray with contact cleaner and inserted a jack multiple times. As I said I have not been able to replicate this fault at home and Tuesday is the next time it will be used in a band setup so I will have to wait and see.
  22. I have a Hartke Kickback combo which I have had since new in 2001. I've never had a problem with it until recently when it has started to make loud crackling noises when I'm playing. What is doing my head in is it won't do it at home. I have the head unit opened up and I've poked around whilst playing, tapping on the circuit board, poking wires and components to no avail. When setting up at the gig it is ok, then into the first number it starts. It seems to be keeping up with the drums which makes me think it is a bad/dry joint somewhere but I can't locate it. It is not anything else in the chain as last week after it kicking off in the first number I swapped over to a backup head using all the same leads into the same speaker and there were no problems. Right now I have the amp set up at home, same settings from the gig, and I'm playing through it whilst a mate thumps on the cab with a rubber mallet (stop laughing at the back) and it is behaving itself. Any suggestions how I can trace this fault?
  23. On a closer look, what I thought was the corner joint opening up it turns out to be a laminate of ply. Although I still have the box it was delivered in I thought it now not worth the effort to return it and to fix it myself. I opened the laminate a bit more and injected some pva wood glue into it then clamped it up. I'll see how it is tomorrow.
  24. The headstock does not look right with those wimpy looking machine heads.
