What it sez. Got fretless? Let's see it. I'll start the ball rolling. Here's my Yamaha RBX765A, defretted (beautifully) by Jon Shuker. Other mods include a new and much chunkier bridge, the stock 2 band preamp replaced with a 3 band with sweepable mid (to my mind, the best eq for a fretless), and a repositioned strap button to bring the neck up -- an idea stolen from Alain Caron. It's currently wearing Roto Nexus strings but they're shagged out, so some D'Add nickels are next on the list. Come on then, what have you got?

Heat seems to be a massive issue with some amps and the manufacturers in question seem to have trouble getting a handle on it. IIRC, SWR had some overheating troubles too -- the earlier SM400s used to pack up, and my SM900 nearly reached egg-frying temperatures. For a rackmount amp, it was surprisingly unhappy with being rackmounted!

[/quote] Yup, it's depressingly common. I co-founded what was intended to be a jazzfunk/acid jazz outfit (think Morrissey Mullen, JTQ, Incognito). It very quickly turned into pop/rock/soul covers. I don't mind because they're good mates and the songs are ok and we get more gigs than an acid jazz band would have done.

Best amps I've owned: GB Shuttle 6.0 -- current gig rig, lovelovelove it SWR SM-900 -- absolute tone monster but soooooo heavy Eden WT400 -- smooth hifi, lovely amp Trace Elliot SMX preamp + Soundtech 800w power amp -- oh the SMX, what a thing of beauty... still my favourite preamp section of any amp Hartke HA3500 -- current rehearsal-room rig. Yes it's a Hartke, yes I love the sound. Does this make me officially bonkers? Not so keen: Euphonic Audio iAmp350 -- ran out of puff far too quickly. Nice sound but gutless Carlsbro Delta 600 -- should have been brilliant, but really wasn't at all. The cabs were especially crap. Oh, and will people [i]please[/i] stop saying how good the Genzler Magellan is. You are not helping my GAS one little bit.

The answer is, about as long as you did. You did nothing wrong. You're right, doing it stinks and you feel low enough to crawl out under the door. But it's got to be done unless you want the band to start sucking. Sticking with it just breeds resentment and the mate in question stops being a mate. The fact that he's taken it so well is a bonus.

No. Seriously, don't even consider it. Even if your wrist felt match-ready (which after 2.5 weeks I'm pretty sure it wouldn't), it won't be. I've had both mine done and didn't play in earnest for a good six weeks afterwards. Rest it properly, do your exercises, ease back in and don't push it, otherwise you could bugger it up forever.

Presumably it is a decal of some sort. Note that this is pure speculation, I do not know for sure. Also worthy of note is that there are already at least two threads I can think of dealing with the wider subject of decals and their legal/moral/aesthetic implications. Just sayin', as the errm saying goes.

Nnnnnice I'm still quite tempted by the idea of a nice Limelight '65 Jazz. It's the closest I'll ever get to a YOB J without winning the lottery.

All I know about Romford is, a) Trace Elliot started there in the back room of a shop called Soundwave, b} it has 'Roneo Corner', and c) an arrogant c*** of an uncle of mine used to live there (probably drank himself to death years ago, and good riddance).

Anything else that might be funny/interesting/embarrassing: this first gig was a Saturday night support slot for Philip Jap's then band Secret Society. (A year later we were headlining and selling out our own Saturday night gigs at the Lion, while Secret Society were relegated to Fridays.) Nick Beggs was in the audience for one of our early support gigs with them. No pressure there, then.

[/quote] My band uses Google calendar to keep track of gigs and member availability. Alongside it I run my own Google calendar which has personal stuff in. The band calendar entries are yellow and personal ones green, to avoid confusion. Personal entries will be detailed, e.g. "Weekend at bruv's" and corresponding band ones are vague, e.g. "Rich out". It works well and isn't at all unreadable.

Mike Brooks gigged his a couple of weeks ago and had nothing but praise for it. To the extent that I'm considering one.

I wish I'd got into Rush before I did. First album I bought was Hold Your Fire, first time I saw them was on that album tour.

The Clash were a great band. The Pistols were a marketing exercise.

I attached a homemade ramp to my Status bass using double sided carpet tape. It came off clean as a whistle when I removed it to sell the bass. A tiny bit of residue that came off easily.
