1. Carlsbro amps were the backbone of many a young band. Both the keys players in my band (yes, lots of synths... it was the 80s after all) had Carlsbro rigs, and I probably would have done too if my wonderful parents hadn't bought me my Laney combo.
2.
I guess it's the way of the world, but I remember reading an interview years ago with Hartley Peavey and he made a big deal about making everything in their range in the US and being proud that they didn't outsource anything. Times have obviously changed.
Was this the same interview where he said that South American rainforest destruction was a filthy lie put about by tree-hugging liberals, and he knew this because he had never seen any fires or deforested areas from the window of his Gulfstream?
3. The repairer himself may not have been professional, but his guide dog is.
4. My very first public appearance, a lunchtime gig with the dreaded 6th form band in 1983. - Höfner Artist II bass - Homemade 30w amp (made with substantial help from my physics teacher) - No-name 1x15" cab -- weighed as much as two sacks of spuds and sounded like them too. First 'proper' gig, August 1986, a support slot at the legendary Red Lion in Brentford (RIP). - Wal Pro II-E - Roland SH-09 synth - homemade A/B switch - Pearl flanger - Laney PB150 4x10" combo - two Klotz cables, both of which are still going strong Needless to say, the second gig sounded a lot better than the first..!
5. I reckon most people who buy a P or PJ bass would prefer a P neck. I wouldn't and by the sounds of it neither would you, but I'm guessing we'd be in the minority.
6. My rig as listed in the other thread is my basic live setup. It's already as simple as i can get it -- bass, amp case, FX unit, one cab, couple of cables.
7.
music stand
Nooooo! You said the Forbidden Words!!
8.

When I first saw the press release, that was my reaction too. My credit card went 😦 however.
9.
PS Didn't know we had a sex farm just up the road
10. John Giblin's sublime work on Fish's first solo album, Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors.
11. Fingers/thumb/Herco thumbpick (not all at the same time, obvs. ) -> Elixir 14202 nickels -> Shuker custom 5 or Sire V7 5-string (or bitsa P bass for my occasional blues dep) -> OBBM braided cable jack-miniXLR -> Line 6 G55 wireless (receiver rackmounted with amp) -> Behringer MDX2600 compressor -> cable snake Send ** -> Line 6 Bass Pod XT Live -> cable snake Return ** -> Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 -> homemade speaker cable -> EBS Neo-212 2x12" cab ** The snake (entirely homebrewed) contains two audio cables for Send & Return, plus the 9v AC supply line for the Pod. The PSU is fitted inside the rack case. I've taken a lot of time and trouble getting my rig to its current simple plug-n-play arrangement. It has reduced my setup and crash down times to an absolute minimum.
12.
IMO , once you accepted their offer they should have used you, not their regular guy.
Very definitely this.
13. My band had its first gig a month before my daughter was born. She's going to be 23 in May.
14. Excellent idea. I have added the attendee list to post #1 of this thread. Speaking of which, the list is looking amazing. Hardly any duplication at all in basses or rigs.
15. Plenty of Eden love here. I used to have a WT400 head, it was great & I'd happily have another. I also had a pair of the very light Nemesis 1x15 cabs, they were superb -- the only reason I sold them was to go down the one-cab route. The combination of Kiwi's old Ken Smith BSR5 through my Eden WT head and SWR Triad 1 cab is still one of the most perfect bass tones I have ever heard. Real goosebumps stuff.
16. I've had a set of Elixirs on my Sire for a couple of months now and they sound perfect. Nice rounded fundamental tone, but plenty of snap and zing when slapped, pulled or digging in.
17. Mike that's amazing. Really above and beyond. If we're talking along the lines of a buffet, I'd be only too happy to bring a foodie contribution along.
18.
Thanks Rich and good luck with the carpals - had mine done 10 yrs ago.
Thanks Mike. I had my right wrist done about 8 years ago and it did the trick, so I'm hoping it'll do the same for my left this time!
19.
auditioning gear in a shop is totally different from playing a gig with a band, plus as wateroftyne said about the honeymoon period, when you've spent good money on gear it takes a while to convince yourself you've made a mistake
I've spent good money on lightweight gear and have convinced myself (I didn't take much convincing) that I am totally happy with my class D amp and neo cab sound. It is entirely possible that a 60lb amp and a 100lb cab might give me a sound that I prefer very slightly, yes. But my 4lb amp and 40lb cab sound so nice that I'm really not bothered enough to find out. I can't see myself even thinking about changing my amp unless a} it dies or b} Trace make a dream come true and produce a small lightweight SMX head. (hint hint)
20. My favourite Chownycolour is definitely the sapphire burst. It looks good in pics, but when you see it in the flesh (well, wood) it is quite stunning.
21. I'm having carpal surgery on 24th Feb so I probably won't be able to play much/at all by then, but if I'm able to drive I'll come along anyway. I'll bring a couple of as yet unlisted geetars that might be of interest.
22. Árstíðir -- Icelandic folksters. Myrath -- Tunisian prog metal. Seriously.
