  1. Bump save money on these virtually unused delights! Bassdirect have them at £50
  2. Top work both with the review and the the playing videos. That's the recorded sound needed 99% of the time for most of us. Just found out the drummer has bought an electronic kit (a good one) so this Friday we may be going 'in-ears' as a tester. If it proves to be useful and something we pursue on a regular basis the Nobles once again tickles the fancy!
  3. Depends on what sound you're after. The QPers have a specific tone and are built that way. The vintage stuff will sound another way. The website shows BMT values which helps illustrate what to expect. There's loads of great pick ups out there and if you're gonna experiment you've come to the right place. Check those for sale threads' Good luck
  4. Is the green cab 4 ohm too?
  5. GuitarGuitar use a guy in Fife. Last time I needed gear looked at I dropped off on a Friday and it was ready for collection the next week. £25 bench fee plus work/parts - reasonable really. My cab works I just wanted the tweeter looked at as it's not working (but I rarely used a tweeter just thought it would be nice to have the the option). It can wait.
  6. Yeah they have moved to Leith...(pause)...... I'm sure guys on here have used them and are very happy but I'm gigging at least once a week until the end of March and just need a quicker turn around and my gear not to stink of weed.
  7. Yeah I'm gonna have to agree that the Lakland's are nice. I was gigging a JO5 for a few years (it's heavy but not unbearable) but then managed to get a fantastic deal on a Dingwall PZ5 and it is the bomb. I prefer the feel of the Dingwall over the 4 string Fender but use both equally. I'm in a couple of bands so I'll use the Fender for the pub covers band and the PZ5 for the choir stuff I do. In reality the 5 string covers both but it's nice to have the option. As is the rule the P bass has flats and the 5'er skips between rounds and flats as is my whim!
  8. The secret Nashville bass. I understand these are used a lot in studios for that big p bass sound. I had one for a few years but it was massive on me. Super comfy to play though.
  9. I went to a local repair guy who told me its a £30 bench fee plus vat upfront for diagnostic. Paid up to be told it would be three to four weeks before it's ready to be looked at excluding actual 'repair' time. I had a last minute gig and called to say I needed the cab, got to the shop and the place was reeking of weed (it was a Saturday, two employees, no 'jobs on the bench') no signs of any actual work being done and once I got the cab in the car the cover was also stinking of weed. I'm heading back down today for a refund. I don't care if they're stoners but a three to four week wait and £36 up front so these lads can mooch about? No ta! I usually go via a local guitar shop. Drop the stuff off on a Friday collect the following Friday, £25 bench cost. I thought I'd go local as it's literally 5 minutes drive from my place. Needless to say I'll be dropping it off the next time I have a week without gigs. I get people need paid and it's a 'specialist' service but there's taking the p*ss
  10. I use the Apollo with the Neve and Ampeg plug ins (and a bunch more such as compressors and other channel strips that were bundled with it). It's a great unit, expensive though. I guess you could gig with it but you would need to be going direct into a (decent PA) or via a power amp. The plug ins sound are great and I use it daily to practice and record. I can run guitars, keys vox etc so it has the added flexibility but ultimately an amp for gigging would be much easier in the long run- fewer things to go wrong in the signal chain. There are other good interfaces which you could use for home practice and other devices. If you're running a desk and want the best then the Apollo is a worthy unit.
  11. Yeah it's a superb wee unit. I'm just a bit addicted to my DB680 and this is not getting used.
  12. This is only £100 more than the pre amp only which is also for sale right here. Serious review of the finances under way!
  13. Yup I use this bad boy live. I have a back up lightweight head but since getting this I've not used it. It isn't as complicated as some think it looks. Find the frequency you want to boost or cut, adjust the 'Q' or bandwidth of that frequency; narrow for cutting or wider for boosting and adjust bass and treble to taste. Easy as that! At a recent gig I was getting a weird resonance every time I hit an F note. Quickly dialed out the troublesome frequency before the next song and problem sorted. I previously had an Eden power amp and tried a couple of pre-amps the Read Purity being one of the best. In my rehearsal room I had that bi-amped and run a 410 (for the lows) and 115( for the high) and it was massive sounding Lightweight gear is great but I do really enjoy gigging with this rig. The sound is worth the weight. dissa - I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Fender pre-amp. [attachment=238252:IMG_0590.JPG]
  14. I still can't believe these are so cheap considering what they cost new. Sure the Indonesian ones are cheap but these Italian model have the Bang&Olufsen module and sound great. I say this as an owner of the TTE (and I paid more than this for it). It's my back up head but a great unit make no mistake! Literally plug and play simplicity.
  15. The oldest ad on BC perhaps? I have newer Tecamp 2X12 and it's a wonderful cab
  16. I totally missed your reply on this. I can't recall the attack and release times but I have read them somewhere in the past. I'm actually interested in getting a swap for my Germanium version - they were a limited edition of 100 units - for the Iron Core TX version as I think the extra colour from the transformer would be great with my tube preamp. Do you have any finished clips from the recording session you mentioned above?
  17. Combustion does have a fast slim neck for a 5 as far as I recall. Certainly slimmer than the Lakland JO5 I had.
  18. Yeah I know and that's why deep down I'll keep it and schlep it to every gig I can. I was gigging at the weekend and every time I hit an F note on one particular song the room vibrated.. used the parametric eq and notched out the troublesome frequency in seconds between songs, added back a little bass and problem solved. The 680 has the Jensen out, the tubes just a wee bit bigger and maybe not so pedal board friendly 😉
  19. I've a similar one involving …………… C'mon you knew someone was gonna write that!
  20. Bumping again Guys some low offers. I'm just trying to get back what I paid. I'd be interested in a swap for a 4 string set of TI Jazz flats of Lakland/GHS Flats cut for a P bass. Cheers
