I appreciate your a very small team, Nick - but I've seen other, equally small teams, do better. It's the basics which keep putting me off - someone asks a question, you get no answer. What part of that transactions says this is something I can trust and want to get involved in? Answers on a postcard.

Saw that one, but no comms back from the seller around what "some damage" meant so I left it - if it's nothing significant, that's a bargain.

Music as a force for social and political change.....
But there is also a plethora of whey-faced poppets (step forward Birdy) wandering along monochrome streets trying to look 'concerned' and 'sensitive'.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLph6ePNkGQ&ob=av2e -
Perhaps we old streetfighters should pause to review some of 'The Kids' issues as manifested in contemporary popular song. They might not use the traditional words and subject matter, but one might argue that they speak for the concerns of a significant minority of the population. Which makes them political, I suppose.
From a quick perusal of some popular music, I believe we're facing some form of 'booty' crisis. I mean, they've got the dollars; the cribs; the rides - not withstanding the issues with people trying to catch our youngsters riding 'dirty' - but booty is definitely a trending theme. -
Today would have been Oldgit's birthday - I do think we're poorer for not having the old bugger to keep us out of mischief Happy birthday Si - still missed, chief.

Maybe you could start a thread in the Porn forum, asking for people to show you their Growlers?

Quick question, whilst we're on the subject - how do the other models compare? I hear of Sterlings, Sabres, Stingrays, Subs... if I were looking for another, do I just aim for another of the one I already have? I quite liked the painted neck and stock on the Subs, but no idea if they're a totally different experience or not.

I got my first ever Stingray the other month. Brilliant bass. My only surprise is that I didn't get one sooner. I went for a 3 EQ model, so the "high metallic rattle" is simply an option - that said, for a lot of the rockier stuff we do, it's a good tone to cut through the fuzz some. I only ever had a MIM P. Nice bass, though am sure it could have been nicer. The suspicion I had was that the pick-ups were in the wrong place; probably why I like my Jazzes and P/Js... something a little closer to the bridge. Hey, a bit like where the pick-up is on the Stringray, eh? This kills it. Kills a lot of the Precisions I've heard, out of the box and without any magic in the EQ or pedals. I play rock and I think it's brilliant for it; but I wouldn't sell everything just to have it. Where would be the fun in that?

The switch is only for the coils in the humbucker - you can select them individual (flicking towards the neck or bridge) with the middle position being humbucking. I have a 44-02 - very, very nice bass, love it. So light!
Have you tried this approach? (gets a bit warm after a while though...)
I forgot to take a hoody off before a gig last year - 30 mins later and I felt like I'd spent 3 hours in the gym. I think I sweated down to a boxing weight Some good suggestions here - seems like I've got the option of dropping into Boots for some medical support; JD, or somesuch; for some simple sweats; or diving into one of York's multitudinous bike shops. Thanks for the help, lads. Wondered if it was a silly question!

I've not had a bound neck without the dots, sadly. Does it genuinely not come with them? Well, if not, what a great way to build up some intuition around your positioning
Don't archers use something like you're describing to protect their bow arm from the string? Or did I dream that? No, it's real: http://www.archerywo..._Armguards.html
They do indeed - the traditional ones are quite a hard leather. Am looking for something a little softer, to avoid damaging the finish... which is damaging me I'll have a look at the links over lunch.
Two wristbands?
Haha, I could double up as a coatstand, which should give me plenty of protection I'm wondering if one of the medical/sporting bands might suffice. I saw my doctor about my hand about three months ago, as my picking hand is the one which suffered the nerve damage (well, the entire arm did, to be fair) in 2003, and it has the world's worst circulation. Thinking out loud. Have no idea. Do have a hole in my right forearm, though.
-
Chaps, I'm sure a lot of you know the pain - that realisation that your rock and roll antics have just carved a whole in your forearm or wrist from contact with the guitar body. I'm getting it a lot at the moment, as I've gone pretty much all pick with the band - and, with my basses sitting where they sit, I'm carving myself. I had been wearing simple sports bands, covering the wrist, but I'm needing something more substantial, covering more of the forearm. And no, not gloves. I play rock. I'd get all kinds of sh*t. Anyone know what I'm blathering about? Anyone have any tips? Are these musicians things, or am I back to trawling the sports shops again?
Ask them to cover expenses at least, food, drink, petrol etc at least. If not, tell them to go hang.
Bingo. I love the restaurant quote

You're as proficient as you want, or need, to be - you will find bands of varying degrees of experience and skill, with huge variations across individual members. You needn't worry about waiting 'til you hit some imagined level of skill - you will find there will be outlets for all who want to try, once the basics have been mastered. If the thought of an audition terrifies you, then start your own band I've found playing in a band to be a great uplift. You learn from the players around you, and it forces you to up your game. I've thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to everyone.

My shirt arrived! Xl is very big; and I'm very big; but is very bigger very big big, or something. I'll get a suitable picture. Maybe in jean shorts whilst polishing the car.

I'm unsure mate. They don't do a lot for fingers - if you'd asked for physio, you might well have been laughed out of the room. I've had several finger breaks in my sportier years, and the most you get is splinting and sent on your way. I know you say you're resting it by not using it - but I think she might well have meant a more significant rest, i.e. your whole hand, to allow some window for recovery. If you don't give yourself time for recovery then you're only asking for a repitition and worsening. Anti-inflam might help along the way, but I'd be asking to know more about the root cause. Hard to treat if you don't know what the cause is. So:

Find out what the injury genuinely is (tendonitis?)
Rest. Really
Understand what it is in your playing which is really causing the problem and allow for it (warm-up, limit technique whilst recovering, etc)
My, my, we're a big bunch of cynics, aren't we? Does the world need another Fender clone? Possibly not, but it's not stopped many - Alleva, Sadowsky... and if I'm willing to hear out their justifications, I'm sure I can manage a few moments here for a British manufacturer. Get some pictures up Mudie, it's a chance to show off your product

I've said before that I don't think I've found 'the one' yet, to say why that particular bass would be so cool to me - I can't describe the qualities of something of something I've not yet played. But, of the ones I have, they all have some features which make them stand out: - My Lakland DJ4 - great Jazz growl from the neck pick-up; the kind of solidity you would expect from Lakland... but absolutely demand when playing live - My Gibson - lighter than lighter, but also in a bad made-of-balsa way; but with the devil's own pick-ups in it. easily the best sounding of my basses - My BC Rich Eagle - space shuttle controls, but covering every tone under the sun; twin DiMarzio P's make it a real rocker; solid neck and a gorgeous finish. It's just nice to look at and think f*** yeah, and that thought only grows as you pick it up Etc, ad infinitum.

Dull. Put Mass Effect 3 back on.
If I HAD to play in drop D on a 5, I would tune it ADADG. Actually thinking about it, you could make some massive chords!
That would be some powerful hoodoo
-
I quite fancy picking up another five. The only thing stopping me in the tunning, when we went from D to drop-D - I've acclimatised to the change, and am quite possibly too lazy to rework my fingering. I suppose I could simply drop the E - but then what for the B? This is how my mind works. A dangerous place.
