For £50 you cant go wrong really can you?! Looks nice too!

It takes away the peaks from playing. Smooths everything out. So if you dig in particularly hard, that peak in volume will get "cut off", and it wont sound so harsh. I'm sure there is a more technical way to explain it. But the reason most people would use them, is the reason i don't. I like to have control over the dynamics of my playing, and every compressor i've tried has taken away some of the "colour" of what makes my playing , my playing (for better or for worse )

I don't understand why you'd want to change it personally? Think it's a nice part

That's expensive. I guess because your buying from a shop you have to factor in their overheads etc. But you can pick up fantastic Streamers from the 80's on here from between £1000 - £1500 Some examples: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/313303-warwick-streamer-stage-i-4-nt/page__p__3395190__hl__streamer__fromsearch__1#entry3395190 (i know this is 92, still looks like a nice example) http://basschat.co.uk/topic/313464-sold1991-warwick-streamer-stage-one-sold/page__p__3392619__hl__streamer__fromsearch__1#entry3392619 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/304027-1986-warwick-streamer-sold/page__p__3288881__hl__streamer__fromsearch__1#entry3288881

First proper paid gig....lessons learnt
I heard an anecdote re wedding gigs once (it's probably not true, but I like the ethos of it); customer says to band member "What, you want £800 to play at my daughters wedding? £800 just for music?" "Fair enough" says the band member "Phone up and ask 5 plumbers what they'd charge.... for 5-6 hours.... on a Saturday night... finishing past midnight, and see what they say!" "tell you what" he continued "we'll do it for half their quote!"
Whoever told you that must be a clever bloke We play mostly weddings, and i do enjoy them. But there is no doubt, you're often hanging around 3 to 4 hours before playing, to be able to set up at a time which suits the wedding planner etc. Worst part is, they mostly run late and you could have turned up two hours later anyway! But at someones wedding, you cant take that chance. You just have to turn up when they say. There are definitely Pro's and Cons to it. -
Bought a bass from Andy. Even caught a train to my place to make sure the bass was delivered safely. Thanks mate, hope you found a decent bacon sarnie in town !

I play in a primarily wedding/function band. But we do play the odd pub gig for potential customers to be able to come and watch us. For weddings, you can charge what you like. Whether you get booked is another matter. I think you just need to be realistic with it. Take a look at the wedding bands that are established in your area. Do an honest assessment of your band. Then try to calculate what you think you can charge based off that. As for pub gigs, we don't play many of them, maybe 4 a year, and we get £300 a go.

Not something id choose to listen to regularly, but i can definitely appreciate the skill shown! Noice -
I've owned both. The thumb was awesome sounding. A very distinctive tone. I sold mine because it was an awkward reach to the first fret for me (i've had shoulder surgery). Dont know why, as i've never had issues with any other bass. Ive got a '87 Streamer. Stage 1. Its immense. Best bass i've ever owned. Im in south wales if you want to come and try it
In my soul/funk functions band we started out with the intention of playing songs we wanted to hear played that weren't necessarily regular fare. Fast forward four years & with the exception of maybe two songs we're playing pretty much what every soul/funk function plays & it's difficult to add new stuff outside of that, cos that's what people seem to want. We even broke our no Mustang Sally & Superstition rule after a while...you can't ignore the classics when people are paying you a decent fee to hear em.
You still have some pretty unique covers though to be fair. (I wont name them incase you don't want me to ) And a lot of the covers you do, have a unique arrangement. So there are ways around making the standard affairs at least a bit more interesting to play

Love it. Wish i could warrant a 6 string, but 4 is enough for me
From your description, I'd say you were borrowing a rig with some major issues.
I've got to agree. I've used a TH500 for a bit, volume was never an issue

I went through a period of learning, where all i wanted to play was slap, and play it as fast as possible. I quickly realised how pointless, and tasteless that was, and that it doesn't work in a band context. Doesn't mean it was a bad thing to learn though, because now i know the difference between a musical slap line, and a slap line that sounds like someone has just thrown the cutlery drawer down the stairs. In our average set list there are 30 songs. I play a slap line on 1 of them (because the original was a slap line). I don't understand the hate towards it though. As has been said, when done well it can sound really good. But it's the same with anything/everything isn't it? Fingerstyle can sound really good, or really bad depending how tasteful the player. Same with drumming. Same with....etc

Making sure all voices are heard in an internal chat group
FuNkShUi replied to Stylon Pilson's topic in General Discussion
We use Wattsapp. Just because its easy to use, and there's a search function on it that enables us to go back and check anything quite easily. In a band of 5, 3 of us are definitely more active on it compared to the others, but that's just the nature of their jobs, or of who they are? Like you say, maybe they are just happy with what is being said and don't feel the need to add anything? They have always made their feelings known if they were against something. So for me, it's not a concern. -
I like the look of the Mark Audio AC2, but annoyingly their website only lists one dealer - in Italy... http://www.markaudio.it/dealers/2/ A google search for the UK finds no mention anywhere!
https://www.facebook.com/thepracticepadmusicshop
