1. Drool indeed....and dribble too
2. Still my fav music shop despite the prices creeping up a bit lately - ok for bass stuff but if you're a guitarist, it's like Aladdin's Cave.
3.
Who is the band Alan...? Hope its not Sabre...cos damn....that would be a bad gig....
I don't think it's appropriate to name the band as I can see how some people will think I started this thread to slag them off, which I'm not. I'm sure they're very good with their resident bassist and I'm the guilty party for the rehearsal being "all over the place". I don't do classic rock since I stopped playing guitar and I'm absolutely awful at busking.
4. Bikers are the finest people on the planet - I love 'em to bits. I've done loads of biker gigs including a Satan's Slaves rally with my old soul band and as always, we were treated like royalty.
5. I was asked to do a dep gig on Friday night - playing 'classic rock' (yawn) at a biker's do. We rehearsed last night and it was absolutely dreadful - we were all over the place and the noise was excrutiating. We'll go down like whaleshit. Never again
6. Forgot to mention Dave - the necks on Stingrays are unfinished but have a nice profile - not too far from a P IME.
7. Hi Dave, I've owned a few Musicmen (?) - a couple of Rays, a Sterling and two Bongos and my preference for a good all round bass would be for a 2EQ Ray. I liked the Sterling I had, it was very bright, punchy and aggressive - the neck was sublime and had a Jazz profile. It hung well in the mix and smelt of toffee (no kidding). I find 3EQ Rays a bit too bright for me but the 2EQ I had was perfect and very versatile. Watch out for the G string going missing in the mix - I had to mess around with the pup angle and different string gauges to get an even response across all four strings. I rate MM stuff.
8. Absolutely Rich I'm hoping Pedro gets sick of it (being a 4 banger) and wants to swap it for a 5 but I ain't holding my breath.
9. Hi Clarky, I played GreeneKing's 62RI a few weeks before I got my P5 and I'd say it was easily the best P I've ever played and definitely a step up from MIA standards. It was a joy to play and sounded fantastic. That said, when I got my P5 a few weeks ago, I immediately thought it's a step up from other MIAs I've owned and played and to be honest, now I'd have to AB them to see if the 62RI is any better. No help am I
10. Sounds like you had a great time Chris . It reminds me of a similar gig we did about 1 year or so ago. We'd just done a local celeb wedding at the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool - it was our Wembley, a stunning venue playing to about 6-800 people. The following night we played at the Strawberry Gardens in Fleetwood to one drunk and two members of staff. The manager was so embarrassed, he went upstairs and dragged his kids out of bed to come and watch. It ended up being a lot of fun but talk about coming back to earth with a bump...sheesh..
11. How much do you want to spend Lee?
12. Played at the Carlisle Blues Festival on Saturday night or more accurately Sunday morning. My blues band OV8 played after the headline acts had finished – we went on at about 12.30 and did two 45 minute sets and then jammed with some of the main acts until about ten past three. Apparently I was on stage with some famous people but not being a proper blues person, I’m fooked if I know who they were. Connie Lush got up and did a couple of songs with us – I know Val quite well from my mate John being her guitarist for donkey’s years. The other people who got up and jammed were Ian Siegal, Earl Thomas, Mark Butcher and a few others I can’t remember. It was one of the best gigs I’ve ever done – there was a fantastic atmosphere and we got a lot of great feedback and an invite to play a festival in Holland. A few people said we were the best band on that day which is quite a compliment. Got to bed about 5.30, got up at 9, had breakfast and drove for two hours straight to a four hour rehearsal with my other band. I don’t look good today .
13. No I didn't care much for the Nordstrands in this bass and had some custom made Wizard pups for half the price. Sounds much much better now - quieter too.
14. ...and I'm the very happy owner since I put some Wizard pups in it
15.
Anyone tried flats on a 5 string Precision?? Whats the B like?
Chris - my P5 came strung with TI flats (which I love) and I foolishly sold 'em thinking that the sound wouldn't be right for my new band. Big mistake. I'm now saving up for another set £48 last time I looked). The low B was much tighter / useable with the TIs than with the roundwounds I've tried since.
16.
Back to the Dan - I love the music and the basslines just think they're a bit up their own arts. Don't fancy seeing them live; they always look miserable!
Oy Matt I saw them at Hammersmith just a couple of years ago and was expecting them to be miserable / no interaction with the audience but it wasn't like that at all. There was a great atmosphere and I felt a genuine warmth from them. For me it was the best gig I've ever been to although I'll admit to being a bit biased as a lifelong fan.
17.
How many of you Dan fans are 45+?
I'm 54 and I love the Beatles, Steely Dan and Motown. BTW, thanks Bilbo - another list of people I've never heard of.
18. I love the irony that The Funk Brothers were all jazz musicians
19. Sounds good Pedro - you're right about John, it's great to have him around.
20. Never mind the bass - does your fiance like older men? :brow: Seriously - I have the same bass, congrats mate.
21.
Indeed it is. Thanks for the very kind offer Mark. NGH, what condition are your GSs in?
The 112 is a couple of months old and in showroom condition, the NT is in excellent nick.
22. I'm so tempted to head up the M65 and try this... ^_^ What are those pups? - they look like EMGs
23. That's very kind of you Bass Culture - see what happens eh?
24. Pity you live so far away - I would have swapped my GS112 / 112NT plus a bit of mahoney
25. Sorry to hear this Nick - hope evrything works out and you find a worthy replacement.
