1. I have these too in my den - excellent speakers. Have a bump on me.
2.
You mean you got EVEN more discount? What side of the Pennines do you live on again? (I'M JOKING!!!)
3. Well ....I went on the site to place my order and realised MM are only 3 miles from where I work so I collected mine this afternoon and saved a bit on the postage. Decent bunch of lads too. Can't wait to gig on a boomy hollow stage now
4. Sounds good to me
5. Properly good head this
6. Gonna try and get to this one Pete - shall I bring my old Marshall head just in case?
7. That does it....
8. Something historical to make us hysterical...there's lovely.
9. I think I'm gonna put this on hold for a few weeks and see if I really need one. TBH I got a shock yesterday how much it's going to cost me to fly to Crete in August and I need to tighten my belt a bit.
10.
What sort of wedge are you looking to spend Homie?
I dunno - probably about £300 but I can be tempted to spend a bit more I guess. A four string would do but I thought a five string would give me somewhere to anchor my thumb in the absence of pickups. How do people anchor when they're playing the E string on a 4?
11. That Godin looks really nice but I'll bet it's gonna cost more than I want to spend for the sake of 3 or 4 songs
12. I've owned all 3 makes - Aguilar GS112s, Bergantino 112s, an Epifani UL310 and a 410. I'm currently using two Aggies - a GS112 and a 112NT and I love 'em to bits. I don't know if it's my imagination but since I got the Aguilar AG500 head, they've been astounding me with their tone ever since. The two Bergies I had were also fantastic cabs with better mids than the Aggies, great build quality etc. The Epifani UL410 was monstrous - a fantastic cab with a huge sound and ridiculously light too but I think the cab that gave me the most pleasure was the UL310 - it ticked all the boxes, light loud, small, punchy, articulate etc. Truth is, they're all good cabs - well made and they sound fantastic, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.
13. My band wants to do a bit of an acoustic thing mid set so it looks like I'm going to need an electro acoustic. Any recommendations fellas - I don't want to spend a wad on it but it has to play and sound decent. Ta muchly.
14. Did my first gig with The Silver Dogs at The Playhouse 2 in Shaw last night - the theatre was about two thirds full which wasn't bad considering the fog. We were all a bit nervous after a nightmare sound check but in the end we went down really well. Here's a shaky pic..
15. That surprises me RhysP - I've always considered them to be the best strings you can buy and I've never had any issues with about 40-50 sets.
16. My other bass has EBs on so I can compare the colour - I'm fairly sure they're not Sunbeams but admit to some doubt as I've been playing EBs exclusively for 3 months or so and it could be that they do feel rough after EBs.
17. I'm a big fan of DR Sunbeams and they're always my first choice string. When I can't get them I buy EB Slinkys which I like just as much but they don't last as long. Anyway, my Shuker's had a set of EBs on for a coupla months and with a big gig tomorrow night, I thought I'd stick some new Sunbeams on. I put them on last night and played them for about a minute and I thought..."these aren't Sunbeams, they're too rough". I'd bet my middle 'nad that they're Lo-Riders which are a lot rougher / tighter. They sound different too. They were in a sealed pack and brand new - made me wonder if anyone else has experienced this.
18. Leo: "I'd file down the tuning pegs and lower the pick ups and the bridge as far as you can. Then I'd cover the neck with Vaseline" BCer "Why - will that make it sound better?" Leo; "No but it will make it easier to shove that Korean copy up your ass"
19. No worries mate - there'll be plenty more. We're doing the Ace Centre in Nelson back end of Feb and probably one at the Little Theatre in Chorley in March.
20. Should be there Cam
21. I'm not an expert but it sounds like too much relief in the neck to me. Put your elbow on the end of the fretboard (body end) and hold down the thickest string, then with your other hand, fret the same string on the first fret. If there's more than a credit card width of play at the 7th fret then you probably need to tighten the truss rod a bit. I do it gradually - a quarter turn each day until I get the desired result - be patient while the neck settles. You may need to raise the bridge saddles slightly too once the neck's settled.
22. Lovely stuff Russ - do we need a get together?
23. I did this Stephen - downsized to a MB combo (210) and for me it was a big mistake. Sure it was light and loud but the tone was...well a disappointment after what I was used to. I know it's a cliche but IMO/IME the heads are superb but the cabs aren't and unfortunately with a combo, you're kinda stuck with the cab.
