I must have gone through 25 basses trying to find 'the one' and then I bought a Shuker. I didn't like it at first, it looked and played absolutely marvelous but it sounded odd to my ears and so I very nearly sold it. Then I ordered some custom made Wizard soap bars and the day they were fitted by Jon Shuker was the last day I looked at or wanted to play another bass.

My band's looking closely at the Mick Jagger Centre as a potential venue but it's a long way from home and quite expensive to hire - has anyone played there? Any comments / opinions on the place? This place Ta muchly

Played at Chorley Little Theatre last Saturday - began setting up at 4 and at 5 o clock I asked the question..."where's the PA?". The Manager was summoned and he pointed to two small JBL cabinets bracketed to the wall either side of the stage and said "there it is". We'd sent our stage / tech spec in advance and assumed everything was ok when we heard nothing back. Big mistake - we should have checked and it was a lesson learned. After we'd picked ourselves up off the floor - clearly the PA was only suitable for bingo calling, we frantically rang around for a decent PA and managed to get one. Had to wait an hour before it arrived and got stuck in immediately when it did. To cut a long story short, we were still setting up at 7pm when the punters were staring to drift in which isn't clever. We managed to sound check about 7.30 and the first support act went on according to schedule at 8 followed by the second act at 8.30 and ourselves at 9ish. The FOH sound was excellent but on stage was a bit poo which made everyone a bit jittery but we did a good show nonetheless and went down well. Here's a coupla pics..

I have a nice rig - it's an Aguilar AG500 head (twin channel jobby), an Aguilar GS112 and a GS112NT. I also use an Aguilar Tone Hammer which also acts as a DI box. It's all connected with OBBM's cables and the whole lot sits on a Gramma Pad. Last night I did a gig in a huge marquee, big stage, big PA, small audience (it was ferking freezing). Because of the small numbers, I couldn't bring myself to be arsed to unload my rig so I used the house rig - a slightly battle scarred Hartke HA3500A head and an equally road worn Hartke VX 4x10 and I have to say it sounded absolutely bloody marvelous. We've had debates about this before - I know but I was kinda flabbergasted and thought to myself...why spend loadsa money when this little rig is plenty good enough? Thoughts please....

I've been nominated by my band to set up and look after a Facebook Fan Page. Anyone done this and if so, does it differ from a normal account? Any hints and tips? Ta muchly.

Hi Chris, I've never used a MB 4x10 but I've heard one - it sounded quite middy to me. I use 2 GS112s - one has a tweeter and Dood's right, they sound monsterous with the right head (I use an Aguilar AG500) and they are a great match for an LMII or III, I know from experience (200+ gigs with that set up). They will sound different - less middy and deeper IMO. I really love doing acoustic stuff with just one cab - the tone is orgasmic.

My band played at the Whitworth Folk Festival in Matlock at the weekend. On the Saturday night, there was a band called The Shee - a bunch of mostly Scottish girls playing celtic and diddly diddly type stuff using mandolin / violin / accordion and harp etc. They were spectacularly brilliant at what they do but what really struck me was the harp player who was playing all the low end stuff and bloody hell, what a fantastic sound she made. Twas clear as a bell, warm and punchy, I realise it wouldn't do for a metal band but it sounded fantastic. Just thought I'd share that witcha.

I'm totally knackered all the time - I've just done 7 gigs in 10 days Sometimes I feel like packing up but then I think of what all the other 55 year olds are doing on Saturday night and it reminds me that I'm not ready to join the pipe and slippers mob. Keep going mate - something will come along to inspire you.

I joined an 'ambient folk rock band' last September - wasn't into folk rock at all but I was attracted by the standard of musicianship and professionalism of the band and the fact that they only do theatre gigs (I'm heartily sick of playing in empty / unappreciative pubs). I've been with them for 6 months now and have to say I've really got into the music. It ain't Steely Dan but I love it. -
Did a world tour of the Lake District with my blues band at the weekend - John Paul Jones in Whitehaven Friday followed by The Cental in Egremont on Saturday. Friday's gig was a typical town centre affair - younger audience, more interested in getting laid than listening to music but hey, we got paid. Saturday was much better - we spent most of the day on the beach at St Bees to while the hours away and it was glorious, almost warm sunshine so we turned up at the gig relaxed and raring to go. The Central is a small live music venue with a slightly more mature audience and they loved us - it was a great night. Last night was a gruelling two and a half hour drive to Scarborough Blues Club - I'd been in work since 7.30am and was absolutely knackered by the time we arrived. I really wasn't looking forward to it but it turned out to be a worthwhile trip. We played to a small but highly appreaciative audience - they wouldn't let us off stage. The organiser was waiting at the side of the stage with his diary and pounced as soon as we struck the last note. We're going back in September but we'll definitely stay over for that one. I didn't get to bed until gone 3am this morning and feel like sh*t this morning but it was a great night.
