1. FYI these pups work in series and parallel
2. I've PMd Russ Joe - it all depends on what everyone wants to take I guess. We'll sort it out
3.
Well....I've sent my £30 cheque off today and I'll see you all there. Cameron
Excellent news sir I'm really looking forward to this.
4. I'm not really a fan of 'reliced' basses - I think it's cool when a bassist has owned an instrument a long time and they've aged together but I think buying one in an attempt to give that impression is a bit bogus TBH but hey, that's just my opinion. That said, if I was in a shop trying basses out, I'd definitely try a RW one and with an open mind. If it played and sounded better than the rest, I'd buy one. I'm always petrified of dinging unmarked basses and I really do see the appeal of having a RW one where the worry of dings would dissipate.
5.
I think it's very important to understand that wood is structurally complex and unique in terms of density, grain structure and grain orientation. One piece of wood will be significantly different from another, even from the same tree or an adjacent cut. In a bass if we take out the primary influence of the pickups and electrics, the type of construction and neck stiffness we then have a slightly noticeable (I would suggest) tonal variation in the individual blank used to construct the body. To suggest that, given the variable already inherent in the unique body wood, the thinning of some finish is an influence that makes a generic model 'better' than others in the range reeks to me of marketing hype. Maybe I got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning? Don't get me going on the whole aspect of making a bass look like something it isn't Peter
This makes sense to me Pedro.
6. I've never understood why people say would 'ages' on a bass. Surely at the time it becomes a bass, the wood dies?
7. Mmmm curry - is there good ventilation in the hall?
8. Thanks for that largo - I've PMd you about the P5.
9. Any news largo?
10. Nice bass Rich
11. That's absolutely fabulous. It was my birthday a little while ago and the two lesbians who live next door called 'round with a Rolex for me. I think they misunderstood me when I said I wanna watch.
12. I'm with you on that Low End Bee, give me a good new one any day. I played an early 60's Jazz once that had cost the owner £4500 - I wouldn't have given £200 for it. I haven't played bass for long but I have owned a few Fender gu*tars since the late 60's and IMHO, the quality is a lot more consistent these days.
13. I have no means to record Ste but there's an Ed Friedland demo on Youtube that'll give you some idea. The B string is as good as the one on my Shuker.
14. Every time I hear an Ashdown MAG set up, I'm gobsmacked how good they sound. I was listening to my mate's band rehearse on Saturday and the bassist was using a Warwick Rock Bass and a 210 MAG combo with a MAG 15 underneath, the tone was absolutely outstanding.
15. Had two days to get acquainted with my new USA P5 and have to say, I'm really impressed with the build quality and finish. The neck is superb and feels worn in, I particularly like the new finish. The tuners are rock solid - smooth and positive. The neck pocket is as tight as a camels arse in a sandstorm and notes ring out and sustain for ages - and that's with flats FFS. The biggest surprise for me is how light it is yet it still feels solid as a solid thing. Really really pleased with this bass.
16. Can't believe this is still here - sell your Shuttle and buy this fantastic, high quality head. Bob's a gentleman so you can buy with complete confidence.
17. Can't wait to hear about the new band Russ
18. I had one for a while - superb basses. It certainly does a nice tight P sound and there's definitely a MM sound in the back pup but IMO, it doesn't emulate either sound exactly. I'd definitely recommend one - I had mine at the same time as a Sadowsky PJ and I preferred the Sandberg in every department.
19. Another pleasant deal with Bob - he really is a true gentleman and a great bloke to deal with. Hope you can make it up 't North this weekend Bob...remember to get your injections
20. Yep ....guilty as charged m'lud
21. Just bought a bass (P5) with what looks like a newish set of TI flats on. I love these strings but the sound isn't right for what I'm doing at the moment. Just checked Stringbusters and they're £48 new. First £20 secures (posted) or will swap for new unused decent nickel strings with a 125 B.
22. Oops - sorry they didn't work out for you Tony
Lovely piece of kit, the P5
Agreed - the neck's really nice, it feels worn in. I haven't found anything to criticise about it yet

Oy Clarky - I have your P's twin. Just got home with it and having an inaugural pluck through my Tascam - very nice, very light too. Russ you'll love this - can't wait for you to try it next weekend. Jury's out on the strings though - it's got TI flats on (which I really really like) but I don't think that sound's for my new band.
