1. That's great to hear Chris especially after the period of uncertainty you had. Glad you're sorted
2. Thanks Dan, I managed to get some from B&Q - not quite the correct shade but nobody can see 'em. I had trouble getting the handle off too - the chrome ends do fly off though and quite dramatically when a determined lever action is applied using a good screwdriver.
3.
You are so much more Blues than you are Soul Alan The singer spookily reminds me of an old sort of friend who sang the blues in Plymouth, Mick Taylor, sadly no longer with us.
...but I now need to look more ambient folk rock apparently...where's my leather kaftan?
4. Small world indeed Dave. Yeh, Darren is an astounding player - I love his tone, very Steve Lukather at times. When Darren, the keyboard player Andrew and the violinist Richard play together, I have to think of Margaret Thatcher naked to avoid soiling myself. Top musicians - shame about the bassist.
5. Blues band's been fairly busy the past few weeks with Colne and a few gigs around Manchester but there's nothing now until Carlisle Blues Festival in November. It's a good job really cos I really have to roll my sleeves up and learn the Silver Dogs stuff.
6. Nice cabs these Stu - if only I hadn't blown a wad lately Good luck fella.
7.
Not so bad mate cheers, hows the collection going? Just bought a Warwick Streamer Std off the bay to try and get back into playing. Going to be jamming with a guitarist and drummer I know to get my self back upto speed before looking for a band. Alan, what cabs are you using? Would love to hear it, ant gigs coming up? I went to see Andy Fairweather Low last week, was impressed with his bass player, Lakland Joe Osbourne and a Markbass 410 rig
Next gig is Sunday evening in Preston (9ish) - first gig with The Silver Dogs. Try and get there mate, I'll come and get you if needs be. They're a genuinely stunning band (dunno what I'm doing in it). Cab wise - I'm using a GS112 for small / med gigs adding a Trace Elliot 1518c underneath for large rooms. Loving it a lot. You're gonna love my Shuker Jazz mate.
8.
You got one then!?... Wish Id never got rid of mine!!
I did mate, got the two channel jobby - love it to bits.
9. Taken about 2am Sunday morning at JB Jazz & Blues Club near Oldham..
10. Hi Pete - where ya been ? Here' the link
11. Played at thr JB Jazz and Blues Club near Oldham last night. Lovely venue, great atmosphere and a friendly, appreciative audience. Told to be there at 7 to set up cos there's 3 turns, our first slot was supposed to be at 9.00 - went on at 10. Second set was supposed to be 11.45 - went on at 1.30 am, 40 minutes and then an hour's drive home. To cap it all, I had to get up early today - (wife's birthday) so I feel like sh1t but hey, that's rock and roll...I mean blues and jazz.
12. I like both - am I bi-stringual?
13. Sadly it's not re-opening, it's a block of flats now Linda - who used to run it towards the end runs a place nearby and the reunion will be held there. I used to play gu*tar in The Hugh Jarre Soul Band - we were the last band to play there.
14.
Tension depends on gauges and doesn't vary up and down each string. And the tone is different, not better. But that does give you another tonal option which can only be a good thing. Alex
Strings feel tighter at the first fret than they do at the 7th fret and, as I said IMO, the tone is better up the neck.
15. I bought a cab from them - it all went swimmingly. I'd use 'em again.
16. Yeh - playing cross the strings is a major advantage and being able to play songs in F/F#/G etc further up the neck where the string tension is lower and IMO the tone is better.
17. Just a heads up to anyone in the NWest that Preston's premier gig venue - The Lamb (which closed a few years ago) is having a reunion next weekend (11th/12th/13th) - details are on their MySpace page. I'll be doing my first gig with The Silver Dogs on the Sunday evening if you've nowt better to do.
18. I'm pleased to say I've reached the stage where I can switch between fours and fives mid-set without any problems. I think it's good to be able to do that.
19. I have this - which used to belong to Old Git ...and this, which used to belong to giblett.... I used to be sceptical about custom basses but these are the best two basses I've ever owned bar none. I'd love to have one built but I'm too impatient.
20.
I guess what you want is someone who hasn't rack mounted their AG500... I've got the nice Aguilar padded bag for the head (mint) that I never used as I rack mounted mine - shoot me a PM if you are interested, although I guess you *need* to rackmount it with a tuner etc? J
I've just bought a nice Boschma 2 u rack case otherwise I'd have had that off you Anyway - I've been to B&Q, may have found a temporary solution...
21.
Al, Mine came with rack ears and 3 little bolts to mount them to the head. The side handle and feet will have to come off to rack mount it, feet just unscrew and the handle needs the little metal covers popped off to allow you to access the screw that holds the handle in place. J
Thanks - I suspect the bolts have been taken out of the pack cos the bag the rack ears came in was open. I've tried calling him but it sounds like he's out of the country and isn't answering. I've even rung Aguilar and there's no answer AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
22. I've just bought a rack case for my AG500 and thought I'd put the head in the rack. I have the rack ears but alas no f***ing mounting bolts in the box. The other problem I have is the carrying handle on the side of the head is in the way of mounting one of the ears. So, please help with a couple of questions; Should the mounting bolts have come with the head / rack ears? Can I buy some the same size locally - ie B&Q? How do I remove the carrying handle from the side of the head?
23. Yup - FCW. I can't wait to put my head in it tonight I tried at lunchtime but couldn't find the Vaseline for my ears
24. Bloody hell - mine's just arrived, first impressions....spectacular Who needs Gator / SKB?
25. Words are supefluous
