1. We only get together when we've changed all our gear, so if you can wait 3 weeks, we'll give you a shout next time.
2.
The Markbass combo looks wicked. How did it compare to those little Aggies? Wow at the 62!
I would swap my Markbass combo and a fair amount of cash for Peter's rig but I strongly suspect he wouldn't be interested. I bought the combo cos I was fed up humping a big rig around and heard good things about it. It has a sound of its own - very mid prominent but it's loud enough to gig most places and it's as light as a feather. So I would say Peter's rig is superb and my combo is a good compromise for geriatrics like me who value their back more than their sound.
3. I walked away from an original blues band in July frustrated at the lack of rehearsals - basically we were 3 weeks away from the first gig and had five songs ready when the keyboard player announced he was going away for two weeks and the red mist descended. Anyway, I ate humble pie and went to their first gig last night and they were brilliant. Although to other musos they were a bit rough around the edges, there were moments of sheer brilliance and they went down a storm. My legs are badly bruised this morning from kicking myself all night. Ah well, I can look forward to my charity gig on the sea front at Blackpool on Sunday playing to chavs and seagulls with my new band who play songs twice 'round cos they don't the endings
4. Well Dave - where to start....it's quite bright sounding soloed but not unpleasantly so but I find myself knob twiddling like a possessed erm...person when I play with the band as its character completely changes in the mix. The pups are angled further away from the E/B strings and I think this is causing the lack of presence and punch I'm experiencing. I'm going to take it to Jon and get it fettled - even going as far as changing the pups if necessary. It's a lovely bass and I don't regret buying it at all - it's just going to take a bit of time, money and effort to get it how I want it.
5. Just had it pointed out to me that some idiot is selling these new on ebay for £899 - I clearly should have done my homework before parting with £1100 Anyway I'm not a registered charity and refuse to lose a wad on this so it is withdrawn - I thang you.
6. We had a mini-Bash last night at Greeneking's splendid pad in the beautiful Lake District. I took a few pics I thought I'd share. This is our 3rd or 4th Bash - can't remember and we meet to play with each other's new toys and then head for the pub for a pie, a pint and a Basschat discussion. It's always a totally civilised activity. Last night, there was Peter's jaw dropping new 62 RI Precision - without doubt, the best P I've ever played bar none and his simply amazing M*X")?!Z>**% - check the headstock, even the guy who made it couldn't spell it so he put a symbol there. Russ brought his Kinal - a joy to play and one of the nicest sounding basses on the planet. I brought my Shuker and CMD102P. Russ and the M*X")?!Z>**% - sounded so nice, the lady in the picture top left had an orgasm Peter and the Kinal.. Russ' groin and Peter's chocolate rig Some fat git pretending he can play a bass That 62RI Russ n Peter Forgot to take pics of my Shuker, but it looks remarkably like this...
7. Thanks Phil but I'd rather keep it than lose £100 a week on it TBH.
8. IME and IMHO, I would say that £ for £, the DJ is the best Jazz out there. I loved mine (a 4 banger) and I'd kill ofr a 5er - especially like the one in the pics. I'm so jealous.
9. Dave - you so 'n so...this is giving me a GAS attack
10.
IIRC you can take the head out and either rack it or stick it in a Markbass bag (which is what I have) which would allow you to run a number of combinations (210 alone, 115 alone, 210+115). C
I'm pretty sure that MB say you can't do that due to the (lack of ) outer casing Chris. that would have been ideal really.
11.
Did you try it with a 115 Homer, you just might find it more usuable in that configuration? I'm happy for you to borrow mine for a while to check it out (too many Markbass 115s chez Beedster at present )? Chris
Thanks Chris I may well take you up on the offer. There's nothing wrong with the combo TBH - it does a fine job and will suffice for most gigs but I want the flexibility of using different cabs. TBH I'm not expecting this to sell because I'm not giving it away like I usually do.
12.
Im very curious whats that yellow pot on the upper right?
Master Volume
13. I bought this new from Electromusic 3 weeks ago - it's the brand new version with the LMIII head in it. I went to buy a LM Tube and they didn't have one in stock and when I tried this combo, it sounded great so I bought it for £1099. I've rehearsed twice and gigged once with it but it's not what I'm looking for and I want to go back to seperates so if anyone is thinking of buying one of these brand new, send me a PM with a sensible offer and save yourself some money. It's brand spanking new, unmarked, loud and in perfect working order as you'd expect. Technical blurb; SPEAKER 2x10" TWEETER piezo BASS PORT front IMPEDANCE 8 ohms SENSITIVITY 101 dB SPL SPEAKER POWER HANDLING 400W RMS (AES Standard) AMP OUTPUT POWER 500W @ 4 ohm / 300W @ 8 ohm FREQUENCY RESPONSE 40 Hz to 18 kHz CROSSOVER FREQUENCY 3 kHz WEIGHT 44 lbs / 19.9 kg HEIGHT 18.9 in. / 47.9 cm WIDTH 23.4 in. / 59.4 cm DEPTH 18.7 in. / 47.5 cm PREAMP solid state (Voltage is factory preset according to region of sale) Trades considered. It looks exactly like this...
14. Played at a pub near Blackpool with my new band. They're nice people and very enthusiastic but a bit clueless. They don't know how songs start, they don't know how songs end - we even did one song twice 'round because nobody knew how to stop it. Loads of arse clenching train wrecks but in spite of this, they enjoyed it, some of the audience enjoyed it and I spent the night kicking myself for walking away from the last band. Ah well, nothing better to do at the moment
15. A fond adieu from me Mark. I know I speak for everyone when I say you're a top bloke and a valued member of the forum. You'll be missed.
16. I'd give my middle testicle for this - one of the best Jazzes I've ever seen.
17.
No mate, the strings are EB Super Slinkys. My tech has had them on and off a couple of times while working on the bass. I've used slinkys for years on all my basses, but recently I discovered DR strings, so the Kinal currently has Low Riders on it, and the OLP will end up, probably, with High Beams on it. Yes Al, I have to be careful not to tempt fate with all the trading I've done in the last couple of years, but these are better than I could've hoped. The Kinal is perfect for me, in every way, I love it, even more than the Overwater. The OLP is the biggest surprise. I guess with the work done on it, it should sound great, and it doesn't disappoint. I'll bring them both next Wednesday if we're still on for that.
Yep - looking forward to next Wednesday mate.
18. You seem to be in a happy place bass-wise mate - really pleased for you. Alan
19. Thanks Paul - yours isn't shabby either
20.
Al, that's just stunning, I can't wait to try it out, you must be over the moon.
Looks apart - it's a joy to play with great string spacing for my big mitts. I'll be a lot happier when I get some decent strings on it, it's got some Elixirs on at the moment and there's not much life left in 'em. Not sure what's going to fit what is quite a narrow B saddle.
21.
Shuker looker indeed, beautiful. What's the top wood?
It's camphor - the body is white ash.
22. A few teasing shots of my latest squeeze..
23. I'll let you know Steve - before I form an opinion, I need some new strings
24. Thanks Steve, I do like Hot Wires.
