1.
Thank you, that helps a bit. I suspect I am overthinking it. I have always added runs in my playing that are basically going up and down a scale (or pausing and doing it twice, for interest...), but based on the "root" (dominant?) key of what we are playing in, is it permissible to play any of the modes over it? I am mainly hung up on the fact that the actual notes played are all identical between the modes. If a song is in E minor, I know I can play G major over the top and they are identical notes. This is a mode, surely? But they are still the same notes so I don't fully understand (at all?) how it helps with playing because I'll still be putting in exactly the same notes. So the mood of the song does not suddenly change, as they are the same notes.
You're effectively talking about relative minors really, Eminor is the relative minor of Gmajor, same notes. So in C, A minor (the Aeolian) is relative minor and so same notes. Si
2. Another fun trick is considering your root chord as if it were the second degree of the scale (or Dorian), and playing over the then equivalent Ionian. So if in D minor, try playing around your C Major scale Si
3.
Oh! I love this game! Can i play? Clearly some similarities in the PCB layout with added features wich will most definetly change the overal sound of the pedal.
The ribbon cabling does look neater Si
4. Argh, excited. Event highlight of the year minus having a baby a month later..........planned that spot-on didn't I Si
5. I think perhaps the issue here is that the quote Warwick gave probably was in line with the work involved, a full refinish, new LEDs etc etc, however none of that was necessary or wanted in the eyes of the customer, you just wanted the neck issue resolved, but they were all or nothing. So whilst I agree that Warwick shouldn't necessarily be vilified, I think if they want to seriously attract current users to them for servicing (which in turn would likely create further sales), they should be much more flexible with the elements of that servicing they deem to be necessary. And yes, the sales offer certainly throws up questions as to how they can write off $3000 from the cost of the service, or perhaps the other way of thinking of it is $3000 from the cost of the bass. In any case, the work is done, Martin has done a great job by the looks of it. Long live british luthiers Si
6. Excellent outcome and price. Shame Warwick couldn't satisfy a user in this case Si
7. Love this tune, will take a listen when I'm out of the studio today and see what I hear Si
8. Can some who's in contact with him now find out if they're at the London Bass Show again in March? I'd send another email, but I doubt he needs anyone else clogging up his inbox needlessly Si
9. Just remember that mine took 13weeks from deposit to delivery. Some peoples wait is shorter, and some longer I imagine. Adrian will let you know as soon as it's finished Si
10. Boxing Day bump. As in main post, price is OVNO. Will consider px's, but most likely no more than £1000 Cheers Si
11. Number 2 Always preferred Buckeye a little darker Si
12. I'm almost at the point where a high-end boutique bass doesn't look right to me unless it's singlecut lol. There are some exceptions, but I do love 'em Si
13. You cannot copyright a schematic, only layout of the PCB. I could release a B3K 100% schem clone tomorrow and I would have no legal questions to answer if I'd redesigned the PCB layout. Si
14.
Yep - my own fault. I thought a maple board would be nice alternative, but it turns out I'm dyed-in-the-wool rosewood. Adrian won't send me a neck 'cos they're carefully matched to the bodies, so... here I am. As soon as it sells, my order is going in for another.
I know how you feel, I've flirted with Maple a few times, but it always comes back to Rosewood or similar species, I do like ebony too. Si
15. How about a little update to finish the year L-R: 1971 Fender Precision (34") Maruszczyk Jake custom (33") Fodera Matt Garrison Standard (33") Fender Japan Jazz (32") Si
16.
I find the flat board on my ACG slows me down a bit over the slightly curved one on the ibanez. if I specced one today, it would be rounded.
Interested to know why you think/feel the flat board slows you down? Cheers Si
17. They're both quite different pedals from one another, but both very well thought of! I think you'll probably do yourself more favour a by getting hold of them and trying for yourself! Si
18. So mine arrived today in case that wasn't obvious . I can post a photo tomorrow, however the picture above from Adrian can't really be beaten! After an evening with it at home, my instant thoughts are: - It's light! (7.3lbs) due to the chambered body (costed extra) - Beautiful finish, the shoreline gold (costed extra) is lovely, and the matching headstock really sets it off. - quality bridge, nice and solid. - Hipshot USA tuners (costed extra). - It's light. - the neck was slightly more shallow than I anticipated, which is perfect actually. Really fast and smooth neck. - frets slightly smaller than anticipated, really nice feel. - the above two points are largely born from my '71 Precision being my benchmark, which is a bit of a chunk. - really lovely & dark rosewood fingerboard! - the Haussel pickups sound great through my Markbass practice amp, but the real test is gigs this weekend, I'm confident! - did I mention it's light?! - the 'retro' strap that came with it is stunning, hugely happy with that! - nice gigbag too, simple but effective. Overall I'm incredibly happy, a 33" Precision bass is ultimately what I wanted, and I have that and more . Can't wait to gig it! Si
19. Hi guys, I made a little video primarily comparing the new COG T-16 with the Boss OC-2. Let's face it, the OC-2 is the benchmark for analogue octaves, and I'm a huge fan of it (I'm the guy who owned 9.....I only have 4 now ) The T-16, really is fantastic, especially with the added filter, very powerful feature. I just had the Nano POG arrive too, so thought I'd throw it in the mix, however it really is a different sounding sub-octave. Anyway, see what you think, headphones/good speakers absolutely necessary, you will not hear much on your phone/laptop speakers: http://youtu.be/fLXzbHRVvfQ Si
20. Here you go, T-16 vs OC-2 vs Nano POG https://youtu.be/fLXzbHRVvfQ Si
21. Is there any CITES restrictions with moving this around the world (touring etc) due to the Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard? Si
22.
More Ed Friedland comparisons.
Seen these before, and I have to admit, the Lull 5 was the only one that sounded particulaly different really, the rest I absolutely wouldn't tell apart in a band mix. So then it just comes down to how they play and feel to the individual Si
23.
Hey man. How's the idiot box for low end drive with fuzz rolled back?
PM'd
24. I built one of the a FuzzDog ones and it's great, huge sounding gates fuzziness! Maybe there's some extra tonal detail from the specific components Zvex uses, but not circa £150 worth in my humble opinion. But then part of what you're paying for is the hand-painted enclosure, and they do have some cool artists. Si
