-
It'll never catch on...

Got a couple of K140D, IIRC at home. Was wondering what I could recone them with... as one works afaik, but the other is fried. Free to a good home. if someone will collect Sorry to intrude on the OP.

Give it back... assuming they'll pay post and want it back. you'd moan if the other way round..
We sometimes use a dep drummer, and he's technically amazing.
Give me his name...I need someone, cheers.

If you can't feel it, you can't play it. You need to put some time in and get accustomed to the groove ..
-
It's a working tool and will get knocks. Once you get too many, you get it refinished..unless it is valuable and will increase.. and start again. If the bass is made of decent material, someone will be able to make a decent job of fixing it up. At least you know it can stand being dropped... .. and you'll learn to carry it properly..

Cabs 210 / 212 / 112 - light weight, portable, Powerful and Quality!
JTUK replied to JamesFlashG's topic in Amps and Cabs
I use 2xAE112 at times and I pair that with a 550w amp. I assume the CN212 will be on the same par or better I am a light player so loads of people would get more out of it than me..but it will do a decent size stage for volume over a VERY loud drummer, plus gtr and keys. I think 500 into 4ohm load would cover the same sort of gig as a 410 in terms of volume and fill and certainly more than a 15" A single 112..?? NO..!! the 212 would be cheaper than Berg 2x112..?? Not sure how you'll get 2x112 or a 212 about though without a car...however light they are.. -
750/751. RAte it aboe 400's and SVT's...

Berg CN112x2 or 212 would get my attention. -
No alcohol during Cruise Ship work at all? Is this the norm?
JTUK replied to coffee_king's topic in General Discussion
I work for a shipping company and they have a zero policy shore-side, so I would expect that to be the case on board exp if you have any mustering duties in emergencies...but in reality you will just be briefed as non-landers, probably. You will not be allowed to drink to excess and they can use it to get rid of you pdq, if they want. As in all these things...it depends who handles the 'problem' but officers will take it seriously. Do I expect them to be draconian..?? no, but you will not be able to take the p**..and they have marked the card up front. -
Sei don't use a middleman so going direct gets as much as poss going into the bass...IMO ie, no distributor or retail costs. I have 2 Sei J5's and they are completely different, but with the same attention to detail build quality and MP's great eye for styling..IMO. They weren't made for me tho.. The only other thing, I'd consider... there was a Celinder j5 here in natural, a few months back and I never saw it sold...so I'd check that out. But...if it were me..I'd commision MP right away.. I'd have single J style pickups in a J config. Sunburst and red tort, RW neck and block and bound with MoP inlays..or something close to MoP in looks. I'd go with a P-bass width neck at the nut as opposed to a J nut. I'd have the neck flamed maple..and run that thru to the headstock. I may have 2 batts for pre and LED's on top of the bass..but I've never used mine. I would stay away from soapbar design, but probably would have Barts and look at Glock, Aguilar ..possibly Audere pre amps..to be decided at a later date. Hmmm..talking myself into one now
Right - Meeting went okay! No sacking, just appreciative of the time and effort I had put in and that we needed to form a gig plan! Bloody amazed! I am bloody stoked now!!!! And feel like a tw@t for starting this thread though!
That is good.. As for the thread.... what else would we do..?? we'd have to put more hours in at work..??

What is the door charge..? It would need to be a sell-out at £10ph to get your fee and they keep the bar. I would say £1500 for a 5 piece but not your line-up...but then that isn't the venue/bookers problem. I would go for 80% of the ticket sales... once you know what the tickets will be... and that you think you can sell at that price..
-
Does not sound good...there will be major post mortems and witch hunts over this behind the scenes. A shame for the concert goers..!!! Not sure what excuses you can have for a gig of that magnitude...
-
If you are 80% then I assume the band agrees as well... so plenty of time. What sort of gigs do you need the 20% for...? In an ideal word, 20% is a big gap..but not a deal breaker down the local pub gig if everything else is going ok... They may well be giving you a heads-up on what is still required... and this is fair. Sacking with little or no warning isn't fair..but then this is not a company/employee type situation. People will do as they want... I'd be 50-50 about the meet.. If you want to keep the gig...you can tell them you WILL be ready and list the reasons why things might be slow. Anyone will understand...IF they want to. If they have already made up their minds, this isn't anything you can do. If the guy is going to meet you to tell you it is over why meet privately....so therefore they sound like decent chaps, so keep those options on good terms. Also, tell them you have joined a Bass Forum FCS..!! ... they will think you are uber keen

There has to be something about a gig that makes people want to turn up and do it. If the drummer ..or anyone else is putting obstacles in the way, then they have to leave, pdq. You have no option but to keep looking until you find the one that fits, ticks all the boxes, or even just the one that you can live with, warts and all... Maybe meet them in the pub for a chat so you can see if you have any common ground before you book rooms.. I tend to know who we want by reputation ..even if I don't know them...before I call them and then the rehearsal is hopefully, a musical connection only. I tend to know people from gigs, so you know they only have to be open about whether they can take on any more work. You don't have to worry about transport or whether they are 'play' fit... You need to keep looking... and weed out the no-hopers/time-wasters. If they aren't in a band ..or haven't been recently, that would be a big red flag to me and there would need to be a plausible reason why..
Any more input please? I've got options on: Orange OCB115 TC ELECTRONIC Classic 450 head TC electronic rh450 Hartke AK410 Ashdown Mag 400-the one with a red face EBS HD350 Accugroove tri110l EBS proline 300 Ampeg B2RE Ashdown Mag 300 (combo) GK MB500 GK MB210 Combo Ashdown 5 15 100w Ashdown EB 15 150w
EBS HD is the class performer in that list...IMO

As an excercise, it is pretty clean and impressive. I just think it depends how much time and effort you want to put in for a party piece. A bit like devoting 70% of your time going thru slap riffola and not having a gig for it. If you can pull that sort of stuff off and be pretty musical... taste being a different argument.. then you have your syncopation down, pretty much..
No no, I'm not being asked to do this. I'm just curious as to why someone might say, sell a jazz 4 string because his band says he needs a 5 string. Or maybe someone is joing a tour and is told he needs to play a 5 or 6 string. My situation is fine. Why would someone other than the bass player tell him what to play? Is that clearer?
The MD/artist might want a certain sound/vibe etc. I can certainly imagine it being a requirement for visual purposes and you have to decide whether it is worth adhereing to. Some gigs are ALL about Fender basses... nothing else will get past an audition..or even to it..,.!! Probably applies to other kit as well. No different to 'must have BV's'...it is what the artist wants and they pay
-
Its about attitude coming across.. who connects best with the audience.? You can be as technical as you like but with no personailty it will stall I prefer players who can lift things with a single lick..and then the band can go thru a few gears as everyone responds, hopefully. The downside to that is on poor days you might just be going thru the motions. The trick is to have to down days as still pretty good/better than average.

JTUK replied to coffee_king's topic in General Discussion
Lots of employees have a zero policy on alcohol and there may well be a good reason to have one... in view of past experiences, but I would be want to be very sure about how strictly this is enforced. Maybe commit to the short stint and see how it plays out It depends how important either stance is to you It doesn't sound much fun to me... -
We use 2 Mackie SRM150 for BV only. The keys and gtr still run seperate backline. The lead vox uses a powered 15" wedge because he needs the spread of sounds and moves move and swapped from a mini wedge also because volume was an issue. The grt and keys BV's are more static. Anything more than BV's in the Mackie mons..?? NO..!!
I wouldn't gig with 1 210 anyway, so my view is get another 210 and sound 10 times better.
Do this now, before you end up having to buy 2 cabs... FX and bass is one thing, but it does hide any stressing, IMO.

[sup]I'd want to see it worked in reality as it means you will be rehearsaing, in effect on the gig.[/sup] [sup]There is nothing too wrong in that and if the band is good and the singer knows his stuff, this can go quite a way[/sup] [sup]but I would think he needs to put some sort of prep time in at a rehearsal just so you know and can be confident[/sup] [sup]you can carry it off.[/sup] [sup]If is limiting in some ways, but liberating in others and I would want to know what we could expect from this arrangement.[/sup] [sup]If you want to use very good people, there is normally some sort of restraint or baggage and the band can't often buy this[/sup] [sup]with gig money alone.[/sup] [sup]Some times there is a reason why some guys are available when they probably could easy cope with a better gig.. but they can come with their own costs as well[/sup] [sup]You have to work out if you can cope with the arrangements and is it worth it,.[/sup]
