1. But............ http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/can-anyone-tell-me-value-bass-813462/
2.
I really have to sell it... Any idea of the value of the Hagstrom?!
I don't, I'm afraid...
3. I think the fee is making people think twice and there is less turnover on a whim. If you are a regular trader then the fee is not an issue..but for one offs, it may be a consideration for some. I actually think the economy is less of an issue in general as people are beginning to decide to spend now.. IMO.
4. Your parts got dropped and I think your friend would definietly know this and have been involved in the decision. Your deal is how much you mind. I suggest he is letting you down gently. The other bass player might have more of a gripe not being credited, but that is why you take the fee... and then you can feel less precious about it. Not saying it doesn't register though, still...
5. I've never seen any value in a 15" cab, so would add a Epi series 1 210 to your list...but if you already have a 410 as well, maybe that doesn't really get you anywhere..??
6.
I think they were founded around '86 and started making bass specific stuff in '92. Much Moore concentrated in this area over the last few years
Would have been early 90's I think. At first check I thought is was a Mesa Boogie rig, but the amp was 3-4u and the cab pretty like the 1516, IIRC... bit hazy though. I wonder if I have any pics of it...or the stage.
7. If you REALLY HAVE to sell then I'd sell the '88 that you don't use and keep the '83 and the Hagstrom which have more use and probably more value.
8.
I'd like to know more about the Jabba Classic 5 basses
They look great to me..... as do the X-otics as Super J type variations. Would like to get closer to one.. deffo.
9. I don't like to do this myself as fast slides are more positional than done with a sight reference, for example. Also, those dark stage moments when you need a quick peak at the fretboard...?? Altho I didn't find it a huge issue going between the 2 octave necks and std, it would be a thing I would limit when live. Both my live basses are the same neck config now..and I am happy with that...
10. How old is this company? I seem to recall I used a rig some time ago on a stage in Italy. I didn't recognise it at the time but it was a pretty decent piece of kit.
11.
Our intentions really are no more than to just play the local pub circuit If we get offered better venues, then great, but we just want to have fun, and any money earned would be a bonus. The vast majority of Feelgood songs were covers, and they were really just a pub band anyway. And don't forget, they were often described as the "Best Pub Band" in the world.
Yep... and who is going to want to book one and try and sell them as such. I just don't think enough people will go to see them often enough outside of a pub... so I don't see much point in limiting yourself to their material. Just no real selling point., IMO
12. I don't think there is any mileage in being a Dr Feelgood tribute band. I doubt you'll get enough gigs and the show isn't going to be anything more than a pub set/band, tbh.
13. Depends how much further you mean... I think it is all about accepting the compromise of what sounds good close up... and how far the sound travels keeping that sort of focus..!! I used to deliberately sound cleaner..and possibly harsher when standing right on top of my cab...when I knew the sound would 'bloom' further away. My aim is for my sound close up to be decently replicated at the back of a pub... but I also need to other guys in the band to altow that to happen by using dynamics and compatible core sounds that don't flood/swamp my own. At a point where the bass sounds too big and therefore blurred, that is the point at which you have lost the sound, IMO. How stressed we get at this or need to be, I tend to care less
14.
Great quote from producer/songwriter Ethan Johns in the current issue of Sound On Sound magazine: "The only way, in my opinion, to get a great bass sound is to have a great-sounding bass player... People hear Danny Thompson's bass sound and they go, 'Can you get me that sound?' And the answer is, 'No, I can't.' It's the way he plays it..." So, more time practicing and less time spent GASsing for me
Don't know who that is.. but for me, this is the way to go about it. You start with bass that can reproduce a sound and not a thump... so notes are defined across the whole bass. You have an amp and cab that faithfully tries to reproduce that without gettting bass heavy or massively light up top So now you have a system that reproduces what you put in, to a degree, and if you don't like the sound..then look at what and how you play it. If you play hard and thumpy ... then that can work in certain styles but as clean as poss is the place to start. It is easier to add stuff that is missing that to try taking stuff away.
15. LOUD is too loud and loud is for ear plugs. Why you should be wanting to go further than this is beyond me as the audience probably doesn't have ear plugs anyway. I will not put up with mush anymore..and my ears can't take it. The one bonus we have of our old drummer leaving is that our ears.. and the audience gets a rest. It is no compliment when the first thing people say about you is...oh that loud band.. I have 400w, 550 and 750w rigs and the latter two get taken out to the appropriate gigs now, IMO. But I also know that because of the way I play...virtually everyone will get more volume out of my rigs than I ever will. I turn the amp up to a certain volume and that is that... I don't see the point of going louder if the mix has gone..and no ones ears will thank you for it either..
16.
Who was it who described their basses as "hacked out of diseased trees by blind Germans"?
Did make me laugh
17. No, but read a recent article and she said there wasn't a problem with the others at all...just that they needed space and they often didn't get it. The other thing that seemed to come over was her performance nerves which is odd considering the work they did but may explain why she was out of the spotlight for so long and resisted the offers to reform. The magazine pics were stunning though....
18. I wouldn't that that unit back... you want a new one.
19. Nice pup or puppy thread
20. That would be a warning sign to me, tbh.... but as for config, I wouldn't go up against a gtr212 with a bass 210. I favour 10's typically so would have to have 2x210... but I am not sure I'd want to be the guinea pig unless the price reflected that.
21.
They both look 'home-made' to me
In that case I'd get one or two of the guys who built their own in the build diary forum to do them They looked far better efforts to me...
22. Depends what market and to what end,...but live is live...IMO If you are posting tracks to get gigs then I see no point at all in having studio tracks To stretch the point, I can't see much point flying in sequences for live gigs. A friend on mine's band says their two best received numbers have a mass of strings and keys on them. These aren't emblellishments but fundemental parts which make the songs... I just laughed and said sack a gtr and get in keys..as that is a bit of a joke to me...!!
23. I didn't like the 2510 as a replacement driver...that may have been the box tune, it may not.
24. Well, the question can be open to anyone... but if you aren't hearing the real interaction with the drums but assuming it..I would suggest it is very hard to be tight and deep without hearing it back. Of course, many bass players do well playing across the drums and leave it to the mix/engr....but that isn't 'in' the pocket to me.. If you rely on hearing the bass back from the FOH that may or may not work... but for me to play in the pocket, I've want to hear the drums and he wants to hear me. You may find a lot of pro drummers have side fills and some sort of bass box that they can feel...and that helps them play on a big stage. They virtually sit on it... I think ti is all about getting the sound back to you and then responding/playing to it. I can understand why people want a 810 as it will do this well on a stage...but I think it also might overpower pubs. Ultimately, it is all about control
25. hmmmm how you play in the pocket without hearing it..??
