I wouldn't be put off any bass I could try for myself but with the Jedson there are a fair few flagging up warnings so I wouldn't buy online. If you could try it in person you might get a rare exception but I would very much look to proceed with caution. Or hold out for what is good.

It's great fun. What I found is that you may have to leave the Nitromors on for longer than you'd think. It usually takes a few coats too to get it all off. And you have to post the results! I've not owned a 5 string but if I did it'd either be a Jazz 5 or more likely a Ray 5. It's not on the cards but you never say never

Here are two Precisions I have stripped, both black 1970s basses I used Nitromors. You need a bit of patience but no heat gun. I did mine outside the house on the patio and on the front step of the house. I too love that undercoat BUT you won't get around keeping it. Any method will damage the undercoat so it has to come off. You'll need a stripping knife / stripping tool too and also sandpaper to tidy up afterwards. I've added a wood dye after on one bass and I use wax at the end. Very satisfying and I really bonded with the basses as I'd put the hours in. You'll enjoy it. I loved doing mine

I admire those who do have one or two basses as I have for most of my playing career - it's only been since 2004 which coincidentally was when I discovered the original Bassworld site that the collection grew. I could always sell a couple if I had too but it's nice to have nice things and over the last 18 months I had some pretty rotten things happen so it's good to have things that cheer you up.

I wonder how legal the original sellers actions are but a great story

Me too & I've really downsized this year - over half of it is gone. There is room in my music room but that's upstairs and the point of the thread is more about my laziness carting heavy gear upstairs as opposed to being about having excess kit. At the moment the big cloth over the amp is looking favourite.
