2. 3.
Just goes to show how different opinions can be. Having been one of the naysayers of this ad I still stand by mine, which is that the original ad had more than the faintest whiff of BS, and yes, fair play to the band being out there and doing there thing but using the lawyers and management angle imo was just a ruse to make themselves look more credible, and once again, to me, it failed. The original criticisms were all quite mild, esp by intenet standards! Furthemore, it is illegal to age discriminate. All those that are defending this, what will you defend next - racism as your skin colour doesn't fit the all so important image? Finally, the band have benefited from "there's no such thing as bad publicity" as a couple of days later this, again my opinion, far better written ad has yet to have a reply: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=115251
Thanks for your comments and we respect your opinion on whether things are BS or not. If the ad for teh other band floats your boat you should definitely apply. Regards, SM

 5.
Some of the responses to this ad are a joke and show the authors up to be, at best, naive. If you don't understand why a professional band needs to stipulate an age and desired image, then stick to playing along to albums in your bedroom, local covers bands or jam nights.
Thank you...
 6.
Did the Band actually write the ad?, or did the bass player quit, tell the band, the band thought ahh and told management to find a new bass player, added a few criteria and the management added some more.
The band wrote the ad after our Europe tour came to an end. The bassist had already said he was struggling with the lifestyle of being in a band and it finally came to a head. He will be playing with us until the end of Jan......
 7.
In terms of a band, and the music industry.. let's be honest, that is BS!.. People are judged. Sometimes it benefits you, other times it doesn't. It's not a job in a county council
Cheers mate, its tricky delivering these things but an ad is an ad and we know what we are looking for. Having seen the streams of conversations about how this ad comes across I will re-write it and post it again. At the auditions stage we just need to know if people can fulfill the basic criteria of being in the band on the road, in magazines, writing, rehearsing and living in London. We do not need to give away just how much we've accomplished and how well things are going at least until after auditions. Auditions are under way until the last week of Jan. Rik
 8.
Solictors and the PC brigade should visit a Panto - Boy's/men as Dames, Girls as principle boys. That would lead them to brain fcuk and suicide. In certain situations common sense is needed - the person placing the add knows what he wants - the person placing the add gets what he wants. After all its his Business he is running. [Of course he runs the risk on missing out, but i am sure there is some flexibility] Hope they get sorted [with someone from this site] That might encourage others looking for players to come to Basschat. Networking is the name of the game, so leave the bedrooms and jump aboard. Garry
Well said mate. We know exactly what we are looking for and it really is as simple as does this person fit in? There are many great bassist out there and we're looking for the one that a) can play really well, fit in with us and c) add to the brand that is Skinny Machines. Cheers, Rik
 9.
I beleive it is now illegal practice to stipulate age/gender limitations in employment ads.Surely they would have ran this by the solicitors before posting here.
......your kidding me! One thing for sure is that this forum and our ad stipulating age has shown alot of character and in turn helped us to narrow down real candidates. If the band averages at a certain age and have a particular look and style you have to cater for this when considering joining. This is standard practice for the label and management..... press is something of a real and relevant issue with us so we take it seriously. Thanks for your time in reviewing our advert
 10.
^This... I've looked Shuga Managment up in the 'industry bible' - the 'White Book' and they're not listed in there either. Nowt on the Interweb either... Starting to smell the usual BS from the ad sadly...
Shuga Management is a new company affiliated with the Marquee brand and team..... Our management are very strong and have yet to falter us. Thanks for the comments but we can only advertise so much.
 11.
Definitely. I think this is a very informative, no bullshit ad, a breath of fresh air for me as a networking bass player. I understand the jokes and scepticism, but its a bit much sometimes, this isnt supposed to be a bassist vs. the world forum (quite the opposite i think). Wish i could go for the job, if it wasnt the other side of the country i would.
Hey man, thanks for the kind comments. We are looking for someone who can readily move to London so I understand if you feel you cannot apply for that reason. All the best, Rik
 12.
I'm just a bit surprised that elsewhere on the forum there is so much support for our fellow bass players, yet ads like these seem to get a bit of friction. Did I miss something? I think that the more support and useful responses we can put on these posts, then the greater likelihood that we will continue to get pro' acts looking for bass players. As a pro myself, if adverts are dropped on my doorstep instead of having to go look for them then it's a good thing no? So let's all be a bit more constructive eh? Bass players might get a bad name otherwise!
Agreed...and thanks for the support. As specific and in a few areas we haven't specific about who we are and what we have but at this stage prior to auditions we will only say so much. Everyone can google away but for an unreleased artist being kept under the radar you are not going to find much..... Thanks
 13.
I thought it was a very good ad. Informative and specific. I ruled myself out on the time commitment bit. The ad saved my own time with me deciding not to jump through the hoops chasing this one. I think the picture is a good idea - shows whether I'm going to fit in - should I take a Precision or the Bootsy Star bass (I wish) I couldn't find any info on Shuga Management though....
Shuga management is affiliated with the Marquee brand and soon to be label. Thank you for your time on reviewing our ad. Fair enough to those who think the age and image detail was a bit shallow but they should understand that synergy for press is pretty important. This normally comes from the management side as well as the press side. Thanks,
 14.
Mmmm, if they're having to do this I doubt they'll be with Clintons for too long
I don't think we need to show all our cards at this stage.......
