Markbass really pissed a lot of people off at the time. They didn't even tell DEALERS they had switched to Indonesia (2 years ago). Some dealers found out when they noticed "made in Indonesia" on the back. Markbass did not initially pass the savings on to the customer (ie reduce the prices). A few months down the line, they did reduce prices for the Indonesian stuff. Now folk who spent £1100 on a (for example) Jeff Berlin combo, are trying to sell them against the background of a new, £700, 3 year warranty piece. Little Mark 111's were pushing £700, the Indonesian ones are selling sub £400, new, 3 year warranty. Hence a glut of £250/£300 used Italian LM 111's. Markbass have caused a lot of depreciation issues for owners of Italian gear. They are not the 1st to have done this, but, IMO, they were the sneakiest the way they went about it.

Strange about everybodies tonal goals isn't it Last Sat night, BIG pub in Darwen, Lancs. 2 Black Star 2 x 12 gaytartists, 1 mic'd drummer with all the sensitivity of Viking invaders. Stuff with bass tonal variations from smooth John Paul Jones to clanky Steve Harris. Fender (Mex) passive P/J > PUMA 500 > 2 X TKS S112's. No problems, even from (far away) back of pub, according to wandering gaytartist. The S112's seemed to be very naturally "punchy" without fiddling with EQ. The only thing I would say is that I had to use a little more gain and vol on the PUMA than I had to use on my two previous Vanderkley EXT 112'S. But in fairness, the TKS S112's are a very small box so you do need to deal with that particular compromise. They are bloody good though. AND LIGHT

EBS TDS 650. Not small, but fabulous. Will cause landslips with all those cabs. And the volume knob goes up to 11

The one box solution would be a 2 x 12, TKS or possibly TecAmp to match with the PUMA head. I had a Barefaced S12V, Gen 11 and most of the time it was superb, but in a couple of regular venues it was almost impossible to eq out a touch of "farting". Not excessive, but audible enough to irritate me. Or I might just stop being a prat magpie gear whore and just get the TKS grills powder coated. Perhaps Rickenfaker Radio Active Snot-Glo
