1. I would put the Tecamp Puma series up there too. Used one for quite some time, never wanted for power or tone. No distortion or overdrive, but massive versatility. (Yes I'm selling one, but i've genuinely loved it)
2. Final bump
3. used to stoke fires in steam engines, and in good condition for that purpose
4. I have played through this very same power amp a few times, and it's absolutely excellent. The tone knob on the amp makes a real difference. If you want power, all you may possibly need is a pre in front of this. Thunderous. Will stun a cow at 100 paces. And Gavin is a top bloke to deal with!
5.
Thanks LukeFRC, I am currently fantasizing that my situation changes so that I can keep this... Anyone for a fantastic bit of kit? If it's too dear, please make a offer. The worst I can say is not thanks
And Bump!
6. I think it's going to be a little later than 1981. I thought toaster pickups were used in earlier models, and the blade appeared after 1983 (?). Could be worng though
7. I bought a OBT, used it for a little bit, and then returned it. I really wanted it to be right, but it wasn't for me. Essentially it does one sound, and it does it very well. Definitely need to try it before you buy it. The eq section has very limited effect, so most of the wrk is done via the gain and volume and the tone pots on your bass. It has huge if a little loose low end (oo-er), and I thought its sounds was perfectly suited for big rock basslines, especially using a pick. I thought it also worked surprisingly well for old school ska and R&B. Fancy that. It's as loud as you're even going to need, but it doesn't work well with all cabs. The best sound was through a simple ashdown 4x10. Also, tweeters seems to struggle to cope with the overdriven sound (I had to turn the tweeter on the TC cab off). In the end it was the lack of versatility that made me take it back. If money wasn't an issue, I would have kept, and used it with a P bass for certain situations.
8. It can be if it swings the sale for you! (Se vuoi ne ho anche uno nero da qualche parte)
9. That's not any tone, you know. Much debated on this and other forums. this for example
10.
How would I EQ the amp to get the sound found here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr2bfrPgXoY Thanks Jamie
AHA!
11. I think you'll need to play with a pick probably near the bridge, maybe a little boost on low mids/bass, tone pot fully open on the bass, and possibly new strings for a zingy Rancid-esque tone? I couldget something like that with my old hartke HA1200 combo. Add overdrive to taste, as already suggested
12. Just sold LeftyBiskit a EHX bass big muff pi. Excellent transaction, immediate payment, clear communication throughout. What more can you ask for? Thoroughly recommended!
13. What bilbo said is very true. Balance is the keyword here, methinks. I am also turned off by the usual stuff, but I understand the need to please the punters that are eventually ending up paying for your gig. You got to have a certain mix of old and new, cheesy and obscure, so that both you and your punters are happy with the end result. I have found that obscure but up-tempo is usually better received than obscure and slow, especially if performed immediately after some well-know up-tempo number. For example we do Monkey Man immediately after A message to you Rudy. Not everybody is a Maytals/Specials fan, but most will get up and dance for the first on e and stay up for the other.
14.
Calling Jon, Glasgae's only half an hour . http://glasgow.gumtree.com/glasgow/90/72872190.html
Gah it's the gherson jazz again! It's the fourth (?) time it's been spotted doing the rounds. Someone must have bought it off the ebay auction and then flipped it again on gumtree for a tasty 50% profit... I'll have it for £80, not £150
15.
looking fwd to trying it out.
It's really good, I picked it over EHX Q-tron and others. The dry and fx knobs did the trick for me. I wish I had found more use for it than the occasional noodle in the house.
16. Sold pending payment etc
17. First Bass Owned: grey P/J bass, possibly a bass collection copy, can't remember the details (Manson or smth?) from 1990 'Go To' Bass: Peavey T40 (or fender aerodyne precision, depends on gig) 'Your' Bass: Peavey T40
18.
Too dear?
Looks like it, so new price is £90. Come and get your wah here!
19. I've decided to part with my trusty TecAmp Puma 350. It's a really exceptionally good amp: light, powerful, and versatile. I've been toying with the idea of keeping it, but finances won't allow. Spec-wise it's 350W into 4 ohm, and 250W into 8 ohm. It's got all the usual knobs (gain, lows, lo-mids, hi-mids, highs, master) and a "taste" knob that provides different degrees of richness or dryness to the sound. Weighs 5.3 lbs (2.4 kgs), but it fits in a large gigbag pocket. Specs here The combination of the eq and the taste control can provide a great variety of sounds, and frankly, a bass to die for, defined and powerful. Condition is good. I've gigged with it for a year and a half, so it's got a few small scratches, but nothing that you could see from more than two feet away from the amp. Pics available on request. I've never played through anything smoother than this, and that is the only criticism i have for it: it doesn't do grit or overdrive. However, it's gotta go, so yours for £350 shipped to mainland UK. Pics: Now sold for a reasonable offer!
20. Agree with Lozz196. Did a gig on saturday, prepared some sounds ahead of time, and ended up playing all the time with the clangy and aggressive setting. The presence in the mix was excellent, and the tone was much complimented for how mellow and natural it sounded. Go figure
21. did our first wedding on saturday, Dean Park Hotel in Kirkaldy. It went very well. Bride and groom seen us play plenty times, so they knew what they were getting. We tried to make our sets a little mellower than usual, leaving out some of the punkier and rockier numbers. In hindsight, that was a bit of a mistake IMO, as people were dancing to some of the uptempo numbers, and london calling, i fought the law or new rose would have gone down really well. Lesson learned for next time. I also played with the all TC rig, and I was extremely happy with it. T40 + RH450 + RS212 is not just a bunch of numbers, it works!
22. Too dear? It's new, played three times, and it's no less than £115 from a shop
23.
Made in Italy by real live Italians! Actually, they're probably dead by now... This one's just up the road from me & I had toyed with the idea of dropping £75 on it if it didn't get any other bids. Doubt I will though. Cheers for the other link, good to see some close-ups. Don't think the pups are original, if they are they must've had badly-trained rodents doing the routing. Really don't like the bodge-job holding the bridge pup in - makes you wonder what sort of mess you'd find where the proper screwholes should be. Ghersons are a bit like buses - haven't seen one for months and then all of a sudden: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=180624624425 Dodgy neck on this one (although a couple of washers under the truss nut might sort it out) so you might have to buy both to get a player! J.
I think i'll have a punt on this. £75 is not too much for a bit of my homeland, even with stone-tooled routing.
24. Didn't really work for me. Using the tecamp as a pre did something to the tone, but ultimately the base tone of the orange just isn't for me, and I would end up using it as an OD effect for the tecamp. Red Dog music here in edinburgh were kind enough to take the orange back as a return, and I got myself a TC RH450. Excellent shop, great prices and Will is a good man to deal with. Gigged the TC at the weekend, and found it be just what i was looking for. It really comes alive in the mix, and i'll be looking to shift the tecamp soon. Thanks for the help and advice.
25. Sorry sold pending payment etc
