2.
Really? I thought it was a tiny but quite powerful thing? Are you confusing it with the BH500 ?
I think Luke was being a little sarcastic the RH450 is small and light, and definitely not a problem!
3. Both options well out of my price range at the moment... I'm really just wondering whether I should look for a cheap second hand mid-sized combo, or a cheap second hand smaller cab
4.
the RH450 is well known as a super heavy head! just make your own tiny 1x10 cab or something
The RS212 is smaller and lighter than a TE 4x10, but it's not Lothian Buses friendly either...
5.
Too loud on minimum volume? Perhaps you should go for an acoustic bass and at a pinch plug it straight into the P.A.
What I mean is that I was keeping the amp on 2 or less, so I thought that you could get away with a smaller setup for these situations. I will have £100 or so available soon, so I was just wondering...
6. I am the proud owner and user of TC RH450 and a TC RS212. Excellent amp and all. _however_ I have found that the rig is sometimes too loud and too big/heavy for certain gigs one of my bands occasionally does. With the volume at minimum it's just about quiet enough, but it remains a little difficult to carry around and down the stairs by myself. I really am just talking about small gigs with drummer with a relatively light touch, so I was thinking of two solutions: - a smaller, cheaper, simpler cab that would essentially be less loud than the 2x12 (a single 15 or 12 inch?). This would be paired with the TC RH450, or maybe the HH VS Bassamp i've got at home - a cheap, simple combo, like an ampeg BA115 or however they're called. I don't need shimmering top end, I don't really do slap, so the main thing is nice rounded bottom end and a good thumping low mids. I'd like to stay as close to £100 as I can, so not much room to manouver there... Any advice/recommendation?

8. Westone thunders are full 34 inch scale basses, and indeed some of the best to be had in the "under £200" bracket
9. Tried the gretsch electromatic shortscale bass at a local shop. I like, a lot. Good responsive neck, reasonable tension on the string, old-school mid rangy tone. not too expensive at under £250 new
10. Confirming that westone thunders are full 34 inch scale basses, and of the best ones to be had under £200.
11. Good on you. Serves me right for not makin an inquiry
12. Missed it. Pants.
13. First gig for me with Red2Red, an established reggae and ska outfit in Edinburgh. Whistlebinkies, sunday 2/10/2011,7pm to 8.45 (i'll be nervous )
14. I regularly visit three of four of my local shops. I have bought lots from them, and I try to keep spreading my custom evenly. Unlike many, I enjoy going into a shop, try things out, have a chat with the people that work there (if they are nice). I also find it hard to buy without trying, because feel of the instrument or amp can't be gauged over a picture. i am also prepared to pay a relative premium for the priviledge of being able to do so!
15. D on the A string
16. Peavey Mark III (or IV) 400. Not only will it run 2 ohm loads, but it will crack windows 300 yards away at half volume, and cook your breakfast on the heat sink. All this for less than £100
17.
Well done.....I auditioned for the same band last week, and errmm, maybe was not as good at the old reggae stylee as I thought I was....Maybe,my sh*t playing,age(50) put them off......the keyboard players highland jig put me off!!!(wig)
I'm no spring chicken myself at 36...I think I just hit the right vibe on the night.
18.
Congratulations. A good news story. Are they letting you wear the hat?
Wasn't wearing one last night, I'll surprise then at the first gig
19.
It is a great cab, I don't understand why no one wants them!
Somebody will want it at some stage. I have put it up for sale twice already, and always decided to keep it...
20. Nailed it and got the gig (band is called red2red). In the end I took both the T40 and the aerodyne P, just in case the practice room amp didn't like the peavey. Fantastic thick, deep and powerful tone from the T40 through the room's TE 4x10 combo. Can't emphasize enough how important it was to have got there prepared. Got through the 5 songs from the webpage, plus a couple of improvised dub grooves. Not once did anyone ask me to turn down, quite the opposite
21.
Are the songs cover versions or originals and what style of reggae are they? If it's roots reggae I would use the Jazz bass - neck pup only on about 75%, tone rolled right off, heavy flatwound strings if possible, otherwise well worn rounds. Play finger style between the neck and the pup with a strong and repetitive feel with no fills or fanciness. The bass must be absolutely solid and able to carry the riddim in the absence of all other instruments. Remove all treble and upper mids on the amp, it's all about deep smooth clean bass. Enjoy yourself and good luck
The songs seem to be mostly originals, not very rootsy and with more of a ska and rocksteady vibe to most of them. I'll stick to deep and smooth bass though, cause that's what I like for this kind of thing. I'll keep my plucking hand close to the neck, and my mindset on the strong and repetitive pattern. cheers!
22.
tink dub style (and its "Reggae" btw)
I've been exposed, haven't i?
23. So tonight i'm auditioning for a local gigging raggae band, and seek this community's advice. First of all, I've never played raggae in a band before, but i've done my homework and learned the 5 songs required. I have some experience with ska, that should come in handy. In terms of playing style, I understand that less is more, and must not overplay, and keep with the flow of the song. A nice mellow sound is better than and aggressive clangy one, but any other tips? Also, I'm not sure what bass to take with me tonight. The Ned is tempting, for the woody vintage sound, but all the others have their merits too, and are easier to play
24. Anyone for a cheap workhorse cab?
25. SOLD SOLD SOLD As the title says, i'm selling my old and trusty mag 410 deep because of lack of space. No good pics just now, but you know what these look like. Older model, with the double wing logo, 4x10 inch blue cones. Front grille and logo are fine, but it's got a tear in the carpet on a side. I think it's 400W, definitely 8 ohm. Sounds very good, it's the current partner to my older amps, including the valve one. It's in edinburgh, £100 ONO.
