No but I would love one. I can just see myself walking down to the local for the monthly jam night with that on tow

The red lead I use for home practice is at least 13 years old, works just fine.

Stingrays improve my playing...well they feel like they do.
razze06 replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
I had an OLP for quite a while, but finally had to give it up largely because of the pickup/thumbrest position. If I played longer than a few minutes, my plucking hand would blister badly, and I did more than one gig bleeding from my fingers. Not good. -
I know what you're saying about the sweetspot for the pickup position. I haven't played a t-45 yet, but sometime I feel that a pickup in the middle there would be all you need for a lot of the music I play!

What would you recommend for an agressive, long sustain bass ?
Same here. If an agressive sound is what's needed - maybe along the lines of Big Black - then a Peavey T-40 would be the way to go
+1 -
I'm in love

After several months, i decided to try and sort this out, but with little luck so far. Headstock distribution and cottam guitars don't stock anything as old as that, so I thought I would try and find out the actual part number. Anybody knows where to look for a schematics or at least a spec sheet? Ibanez forum has nothing older than 1994, but I have an inkling that this bass may use use of these: EQ PCB II Unfortunately, the bass in question is in Italy, so I can't just open it up and check...

Had one for a while, sounded quite good to my ears, hated the pickup position, so I sold it.

As the title says, i'm currently not playing with a band, and i'm really itching to play with other people. I thought a jam night may do for now, can anyone recommend me anything? I don't feel up to a jazz jam night, but anything else would do. Many thanks, Marco

Thank you all for your replies, very informative. Before I can even consider getting me one of these german bad boys, i'll have to wait until the end of the summer and check my bank balance, and maybe offload some of my extras. However, i've only tried two korean corvettes (bubinga and ash) with two humbuckers each, I should probably see what the other models mentioned sound like whem I play them before I start looking for something in particular...
-
Ok rockbasses are back in contention then. Is there much difference in sound between models? Surely two large humbuckers will sound different from PJ or JJ? The one I tried was active, how do the passive ones compare?
-
Thanks for the replies so far. What I liked in terms of sound in a certain tightness and presence in the mid-to-low end. Sounds perfect for the funkier end of things. Oh and it's modern sounding, if that makes any sense... So the rockbass ones are really not that good, and I am much better off looking for a used one. Say I liked the sound and feel of the corvette, what kind of models offer similar chracteristics?

So I strolled into one of my local guitar shops, saw some warwicks on the wall, asked to have a go, 15 years after I last tried (and didn't like) one. I found out that I like them again! (the one i tried was a corvette with two pickups, active, 4 string). A quick look on the price tag (£999) immediately stumped the wings of my flight of fancy, and the inevitable quick look online revealed a vast array of models, submodels and configurations. When you bring in used models, it gets even worse. Can anybody help me make sense of the mess, especially at the lower end of the range? Disclaimer: I know lots of people dislike warwicks, but i'm completely agnostic when it comes to bass guitars and amps/cabs. I am not trying to start a heated debate.

WARNING !! Peavey T40 Molestation content !!

Brutality and cruelty to bass guitars must become a punishable crime in the whole world! I'm disgusted and outraged! And he wants $279.99 for it! -
Ozric Tentacles - curious corn Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F♯ A♯ ∞ I need instrumental music when i'm working...

I get mine from a friendly local guitar shop. Yes, a few do exist

If you add another load (8 ohm dummt resistor in your case) in parallel, you'd be splitting the signal power in two, with the speakers getting one half, and the dummy load the other half. In other words, you may be presenting the right impedance to the amp, but you'd be throwing half of that power away.

Fender Aerodyne P or J?

NOW SOLD Bought this from a fellow BCer, used for a while during my (brief) tenure in a Studio One-style ska band, not used much anymore. This bass was made in Japan by Matsumoku in the 70's, and I have been assured that this is infact a 1975 vintage. Truly fantastic conditions, all original, everything in perfect working order, deep woody tone, helped along by the thick Labella flats it's strung with. Since I had it I had to fix the front pickup which wasn't working. It now helps along with some of the deepest thud i've heard in a long tme! I hope tayste_2000 won't mind if I use his pics: it's the red one on the left in the pictures : orignal thread Asking for £200 shipped to UK mainland. NOW SOLD

Played Malones' in edinburgh again. Big irish bar, packed to the rafters, even more so because of the champions league final. It was so packed wed couldn't set up until the game ended, so after a mad rush to find all the bits of the FOH scattered around the bar and set them up, we got going half an hour late. No sound, check so straight in at the deep end. Managed to find a reasonable sound for the whole band after four songs or so, and after that it was just brilliant. The whole pub was up and dancing and singing along for the next two hours. Fantastic feeling, even our new covers worked very well.

Looks like I managed to grab one of the last ones at the old price some months ago then. Lucky me. Fortunately it's a great amp and i'm not looking to change it.

And again, we're playing this saturday 28th May. Drop by and say hello if you're in the area!
50 watt bass head, made 1972 in Italy, running 4x EL84. Typical late 60s/early 70s layout of Vol/Treb/Bass per channel, plus power and standby switches on illuminated rockers on RH side of panel. Logo is a centurions head in a shield. Model is "S.BASS.50" I can't find anything on Google. Anyone know what this is?
Anything else on the back, like a plate or anything?
....altho the bass player in Friendly Fires was playing an old Peavey T40
Seen that, and nearly shed a little tear of joy!
It's a valve amp with an output transformer, not a solid-state amp! All the posts talking about increased current flow at low impedances are wrong - valves and output transformers do not behave like that. This is quite informative: http://www.metaltronix.net/metaltronix-amp-basics.htm 4 ohm cab on an 8 ohm tap and you'll get about half the 8 ohm power. 16 ohm cab on an 8 ohm tap and you'll get about half the rated power. Go lower than 4 ohms and the power decreases further but the amp doesn't care. Go higher than 16 ohms and the power decreases further AND you risk killing your amp. (The reasons are complicated but explained in that link). I'll say it again - valve amps do not behave like transistor amps!
I stand rightly corrected! I did a little reasearch, and i think i now understand more about impedance matching on output transformers, cheers!
