First amp was a V-S head, loved that amp. Stupidly P/X'd it for a Session 4x10 combo, which I hated. Would love to find another V-S at a reasonable price.
They come up quite regularly on ebay and local ads. That's how I got mine
True... Just strange that the bottom E string I can get a good punchy sound, but the other 3 strings I can't seem to get the same attack
It's probably to do with how you pluck your strings. If you tend to pluck them by effectively bending them towards the body of the bass and then releasing, you're likely to impart more force on the lowest string. Your index/middle fingers can travel a lot further, as there are no obstacles (strings) to stop them. On the other strings, you'll have to change the movement, producing less vibrations. Try anchoring your thumb on the pickup or somewhere similar, and plucking from there. You could get a more consistent movement across the strings. Someone with more knowledge will be along shortly, I hope...
CMI (Cleartone Musical Instruments) was Marshall. It was a sub-brand Jim Marshall started up to sidestep a dodgy distribution deal Marshall were tied up in at the time. I think on the whole they were more budget-oriented products but would've been made alongside "proper" Marshalls. Jon.
I agree, I think that at the time Rose Morris had exclusive distribution rights on anything with the "Marshall" badge on them. Early on Jim Marshall used the CMI brand to produce stuff to sell outside of the distribution deal, including my Ned Callan bass

I've used this on friday night for our pub gig. Probably its first working night in about 25 years. Being the daredevil I am, I never checked the "mixer output" and "slave output" at the back. I assumed they were for... erm sending the signal to the mixer or to a secondary power amp. They didn't work, so I had to do the gig without PA support. The little old head performed admirably through the ashdown MAG 4x10, never had to crank it to full power, and the tone adjustment did work their magic. I managed to take a grainy picture with my crappy phone camera. When I saw it all lit up, with its very old school opaque aluminium effect finish, its cylindrical knobs with scalloped tops quite worn and discolored at the edges, it remimnded me of the high-end hifi amp my uncle never let me touch when I was a kid!

When I had the touring barefaced compact last year I had a bad accident and ended up in hospital for three weeks. Krispn and conan took over the handling of the cab, including shipping, packing and all that. I barely had to ask, it was very touching
Great amps, while they work. I had the VS MusiciaN head, and you could fry an egg on it after a gig. It eventually fried itself....
Some of the earlier HH stuff used a really antiquated power stage, I believe. They later upgraded to something a little more standard and reliable. Anyway, I hope it lasts

Last weekend I got one of these bad boys, together with its matching 2x15 cab, for not much money (£100). I don't know why I did it, it's not like I am short of amps or cabs Made in the late 70's, probably 1977. Gigged heavily for the following 20 years, but in not bad nick. Well, I played through the amp for the whole of a 3 hour band practice last night. What a sound! Hard to explain, but the clarity is great, yet it retains a certain warmth and fuzzyness in the lower range. The higher notes have a brittle quality to them, and may lack some depth in the lower harmonic components, but to me that's just amp voicing. It's just 100 watts, yet I found that even through a not very efficient 8 ohm cab (ashdown MAG 410 or its own H/H 2x15) I never had to go to full whack to be heard (not felt) in a rock band setting. It may be a little underpowered for very large gigs or places with bad acoustics. On top of it, it's not very heavy. Ok, it's much heavier than my RH 450, but you can easily carry it in one hand while carrying something else in the other. Just to tell you how impressed I am with, I am going to use it for my my pub gig on friday. I am taking the TC RH450 as backup, but I don't think i'll need it. They can be bought for not much money at all, and I can only recommend you try one.

*Sold* H/H 2x15 BL, 200W, 8 ohm, -->£50<--

I've used this cab at practice last night. Well impressed with it! Mighty and powerful sound sound, with lots of mids and a fairly aggressive edge. In fairness it doesn't have the very deep lows that modern and larger cabs have, but it's got a definite character and boy is it solid! Still for sale, grab a piece of vintage gear for no money! -
Second chance, we've been asked to play again on the 8th!
Dunno about that! The HH is only rated at 200watts whereas the MAG is what, 450? OK, fairly ambitious on the Ashdown - but if you play loud and/or use a powerful amp the 4x10 might be the better option. Depends on how they both sound of course. Personally, I never cared much for HH gear...
I got the matching HH vs bassamp , I'm going to give it a spin tonight at practice and see what's what. I reckon that the ashdown has got more bottom end, yet I don't do dub, have a low B or play drop-tuned metal. It could be an interesting choice. Either way, one will be sold! -

One of these Got this in a deal, but don't really have any use for it. Quite tall and shallow, sounds very good when driven by its matching HH vs bassamp head. Lots of brightness and mids to the sound, dare I say typical of the era. It's very heavy (two man lift), but it's got castors. It's been used for live action for decades, so it's quite battered, and missing the original front cover. The front grille is not bad, however. I can take some pics and upload them. Not really much of an idea about value of this, say £70? I believe shipping would be horrendous for this, so I would prefer pick up or delivery only reasonably close to Edinburgh.
They're all chords within the key of E: III(7) VI II V(sus)
Ach beat me to it by 6 minutes

Not sure about the chord flavour (7, minor, sus, etc), but the root notes of the bridge are all part of the E major scale. They are the III, VI, II and V in the scale. Don't think this answer the whole of your question, but that's as far as I can help

This is kind of what we play at pub gigs most of the times. this is from an irish pub gig, we were asked to put in some irish material, hence U2, van morrison and traditionals. All of these numbers resonate with different parts of the audience. Even Silver Machine gets the right people up... TecAmp Puma 350 - ** AND GONE - STILL CAN'T BELIEVE

Quite surprised with the selection too. Rick 4001 at number one is a debatable choice, and the description of the aria pro II is just careless. Also, no peavey T40, gibson ripper, ovation magnum and other classics. All in all looks a bit like a friday afternoon job...

One bass only at gigs. If I don't feel confident enough about gigging with a certain bass, then that bass goes on the market. The Ned Callan passed the test with flying colours, so it stays I am considering getting a tiny head with DI or a just a DI pedal, cause amps do go wrong sometimes...
