1.
The AD200 is a valve amp so the rules are totally different to the solidstate amp ones. It looks like it has both an 8 ohm tap and a 4 ohm tap on the output transformer and you can use either one but not both. You could safely run three 8 ohm cabs on the 4 ohm tap, that won't bother it at all as valve amps are sensitive to overly HIGH not low impedances. Likewise I wouldn't envisage a problem running all those cabs you describe off the 4 ohm tap.
Oh? I thought impedances below the recommended level would essentially draw too much current through through the OT and the valves, potentially frying them. Maybe that's true for transistor amps?
2.
it has one 4 ohm and 2 8 ohm outs at the moment i only use the 4 ohm with my 8x10 but for arguments sake say i bought a 115 and it was 8 ohms could i run that at the same time?
That suggests that it really wants a 4 ohm load. I don't know the actual layout, but I'm pretty convinced that you shouldn't put a 4 ohm cab AND a 8 ohm cab at the same time. That would result in an impedance of 2.67 ohm (if the outs are in parallel), lower than what the is amp is designed for, resulting in an expensive bang and puff of smoke...
3. A fender bassman head? Maybe the 70 or 100 watt version?
4. Hen's teeth. To get an authentic-looking footswitch, I obtained schematics from the net, bought a cheap peavey footswitch of the same era (2+ switches), and had it lightly modded to fit the schematics. If you don't care about authentic, just get schematics and build your own!
5. I've also just finished learning this. I found that a good trick is to essentially only play one note on the beat, and stick to root-5th. Playing the 5th on the lower string help in getting the foundation right. Tone rolled off, soft picking at the neck, maybe even use your thumb and do a bit of palm muting? Also, following the singing rhythm for the changes helped getting al the bits together. Good luck By the way we're doing the Mundy version, in E, for the first time, in a popular irish bar in the centre of edinburgh, full of discerning irish people, a week on saturday. Nervous already
6. As Lozz196 said, depends what you're after. I tend to use one RS212 for gigging and practice, and i am happy enough for now. I still occasionally plug the RH450 into my rough 4x10 and like what I hear... I have found that my TC cab doesn't work particularly well with my other, much older amps, though. It is particularly harsh with both the Peavey and the valve one, to the point of prompt turning off and disconnection from the amp.
7.
Hi - so, the story so far... I have a Line 6 150LD which generally speaking is fine and dandy. I can carry it around as not super-heavy, it has a decent tone, and kicks out enough power to do most general pub-type gigs. Then I have a 12 year olf Trace Elliot 260w Combo that weighs a ton, needs wheels, and kills humans dead on volume setting 1.5 I kind want something in between that can carry in a big venue like large social halls etc, but isn't a two-man job. I've been recommended Ashdown 300w, but have no experience of these. I'm really just looking for recommendations from any bassists doing the same kind of pub/club live gigs as to what they find a decent mid-sized amp that'll do the job without killing me and drinking up all my petrol. hope you can help - any replies much appreciated! Matt
I'll be just the first to say that you're probably better off with a separate head and cab(s). More versatility and easier to carry, plus you can upgrade each bit individually etc etc. If it has to be a combo, ashdowns are a definite option, also Hartke are a favourite of mine. Old peaveys are another cheap and very cheerful option. If you have money to spend, the list can be endless! Markbass, Phil Jones, Mesa boogie...
8. Any idea what you would like to trade this for?
9.
To the OP.... REALLY..??? I accept that they were ok at the time but that was in a very shallow pool of anything decent. My local studio has a combo for use so I can attest to their present day use...and all I'd say is I lug my gear up or use an Ashdown combo which knocks it into a cocked-hat..and that thing has had a caning and runs out of puff around 3.5khz... Sorry.........just a counter-view..!!
Hey fair enough! We can't all like the same things, it would be boring! My experience with these has been great, and I just love the sound. It's also different (and cheap), and that goes a long way for me! I agree it's not as loud as the peavey 400 mark III or the RH450, but I don't need that kind of volume most of the times. I also agree that there was precious little around at the time in terms of good bass amps, but I've only used mine in 2011, and i'm finding it as good as or better than several current offerings.
10.
Good when a tech gets enthused about an amp. It is what I always look out for.
I took another amp to him for a service, and he spent half an hour showing me the bits that were wrong with the valve amp, how and why, in much detail. Fortunately I have some understanding of these things (not enough to do it myself), so i could appreciate what he was saying. Good stuff, he said he wanted to get to the bottom of it, as he thinks this particular amp has annoyed musicians since 1974
11. Looks like this is an extra complex job! apparently, the power stage is based on the bassman 100 schematics, but the pre is more like a fender twin. There's lots of other minor errors, like components with the wrong value, swapped controls ("high" is in fact "low"), but the OPT is spot on, so the most expensive piece of kit is solid and will stay. The tech is really taking a shine to this, and is putting in lots of time and effort. Will let you know when I know more.
12. There seems to be only a couple of threads over on talkbass, and a few ebay auctions. Looks like 4ohm, 500W, big sound, big and heavy. The white ones look cooler. But you knew all this already
13. £3.70 for a quality and solid vintage amp. Amazing bargain, anyone here the lucky winner?
14. HH vs bassamp
15. Good versions! I also try and record as many gigs as I can, but the sound is rarely this good. Useful to go over the good and bad bits, and sort them out. BTW I'm quite envious that you're allowed to play with effects and stuff. I wasn't even allowed a little envelope filter in our funkier covers...
16. Thanks for all the replies I like the idea of active noise cancelling earphones, possibly more for the geek factor in the design than the actual effectiveness of the implementation... I've tried several pairs of earbuds, and the variability is staggering. I've found that the etymiotic christmas tree design is simply wrong for my ears, but their ball-shaped ones seems to be doing a great job of insulating from external sounds. I was also impressed with some shure earbuds (these). Not quite so impressed with the pricetag though. You'd be annoyed if you forgot these on the plane... Looks to me that almost all of it is down to the quality and design of the earbuds. On the active cancelling side, the bose quiet comfort are truly impressive, but stupid expensive, and I just can't afford them. I'm aware that other makes are not as good, and you may end up spending £150 odd pounds for a pair of active noise cancelling earphones that don't cancel noise. I'll have another look around this week, and in the airport of thursday, but i'm increasingly inclined to go down the "good earbud" route
17. Thanks for the input, not sure what to do really. Watched some comparative videos on the net, the sennheiser 350 seems to be ace, but they're dear! I'll go to some shops today or tomorrow, and make a few comparisons for myself

Hi All!

Welcome Michal! Will be looking out for your band when i'm out!
19. I own one identical to that! I've never seen another, so I checked than mine was still here Fantastic bass.
20. I'm looking at getting me (and possibly my wife) some noise cancelling headphones. The main purpose is noise reduction in airplanes, as the hissy drone makes my work trip really irritating and tiring. I can't afford to spend much (up to £100), and I don't know a lot about the subject anyway. Maybe someone can suggest some cheap and reasonable NC headphones? My main concern is noise reduction, especially airplane drone, so sound quality is a bonus. I tend to prefer bulky over-ear headphones, but I'm not against in-ear ones. I saw these online, any thoughts?
21. Sold to Greg from Carlisle!
22. I think there are several variations of that cab, any idea what drivers it's got in it? If it has a little plaque at the front that says "BW" then maybe it has some potentially good black widow drivers in it, making it a good if heavy cab
