1.
Oops - I mailed him last night... As it happens these got discussed here a year or two ago - another BCer has one: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26861 The Scumtree bass is an LBX60 with a humbucking pup (shown in the catalogue image in the thread) rather than the LBX50 on the Tokai site, which has a split coil pup. Can't see any other differences. J.
Ah well, i texted him today, but no reply. Not a problem, let me know if you got it! I noticed the pickup was different from the catalog after I posted it, Iwonder what it sounds like with the humbucker

 5.
Sorry, no pics, and to be honest, I have a love/hate relationship with these heads. Love the power, flexibility, durability, and value; hate the weight. I have both a Mark III and a Mark VI head (don't worry, the VI still has a handle on the top ). I bought them from Craigslist ads for $75 and $100, respectively, a year or so ago (probably got taken a bit, but I was a newbie at the time and didn't haggle). I normally gig with the Mark III into a 4x8" SWR cab. I use an EH Big Muff Pi Bass Fuzz and the dual outputs (effected and clean) from the pedal going into the dual channels of the Mark III let me dial in just the right mix of dirt and clean. The 4x8" cab gives me good enough bottom, and I like the zing I can get from the 8" speakers. However, for larger venues, I also roll out a 2x15" Peavey cab (which runs about 40-50 kilos), and run bi-amped. The Mark VI has a parametric electronic crossover for its bi-amp outputs so I use it as the control head and to drive the 4x8" cab from the high frequency bi-amp output. Although I'd love to use the Mark III as the control head, it only has a fixed crossover frequency, so I take the low frequency bi-amp output from the Mark VI and plug it into the Mark III's power amp input, using it to drive the larger cab. When I use this configuration and crank it, it sounds like Armageddon has arrived. Granted, the number of places I can use this setup is minimal, but it sure as hell looks impressive with two big old Peavey heads capping an almost two meter high stack of amps and speakers. That being said, I'm not getting any younger and I'll probably be looking for one of those wimpy Class-D things soon, if only to reduce wear and tear on the body. I guess that means I'll be saving the Peaveys for special occasions.
Ace. My mark III 400 does have an adjustable crossover control (it's knob in the chanel one section), but I never figured out whether nthat's for the biamp output or not.
 6. With any luck, when the next bash comes round I won't have broken an ankle or burnt myself to a cinder like the last two times, and will be able to drive down to moffat...
 7. Damn i've got gizmo GAS now
 8. there was some idle chitchat about organizing one somewhere in central scotland, or maybe in the east or maybe in the west, can't remember...
 9.
If you can find a way of gettin the 410 shipped to Warwick then let me know your best price, not a fan of the ashdown sounds iv heard in the past but I love the blue
H x W x D (mm) 655 x 604 x 420 Weight (kg) 27.5 Shipping shouldn't be too much of a problem, i'll PM you a best price including shipping
 10. I've had some local interest (non-BC), so I'll give it one more BUMP in case someone missed this (yeah, right) Also, i might still sell this, if it helps sweeten the deal...
 11. I'm very heavy-handed, so low action never appealed to me. I like to be able to big a little further and finding "the clack", without fret buzzing everywhere. However, a well set up bass is a joy to play, and makes a difference!
 12. What would be better than giving your loved ones a couple of good cabs for Xmas? erm Bump
 13. If somebody is eyeing these but can't afford them, make me an offer, i'm keen to shift them! In other news, Bump.
 14. Some people like to push boundaries, others like to secure them
 15. I went out to get me one, tried q-tron, bassballs, qtron+, enigma and mxr m82. I came home with the mxr. The dry and fx knobs make a massive difference, and the actual enveloping is more mellow than the EHX offerings IMO. As far as I know, there was never a mutron III reissue, that's why they go for stupid prices.
 16.
If you're coming by Chester or Chipping Campden anytime then I'll take the 15
Unfortunately unlikely, but i'll bear that in mind, cheers.
 17. No longer selling the 4x10, see new ad here [s]Practice room rig must go! * Ashdown MAG 4x10 Deep, blue cones, 8ohm, 450W. Jack and speakon connectors at the back. £150 * "Peavey" 1x15, 8ohm, 300W. Black widow series cabinet, tall and shallow, speaker is NOT a BW, but Eminence Beta. £50 Both cabs are in regular use, they work perfectly fine, used but in ok conditions. Can deliver within reasonable distance from edinburgh, will post at buyer expenses. Pictures will be up later.[/s]
 18.
Easy. This: The current incarnation of my 1979-ish CSL JapCrap Jazz, now wearing DiMarzio Model Js & sexy stack knobs. Simply the most comfortable, playable and (with its new pups) most useable-sounding bass I've owned. I have a ridiculous & unnecessary number of basses, but all the rest can get flung on the fire to warm me through the coming nuclear winter, apart from this one. Jon.
I'll have the black and red rickenfaker off you then
 19.
I'd sell all the "Big Rig" & the Tecamp cab & just get the one rig sorted for all situations. That way you practice with the same sound as you play live with.
Makes sense, and always had. I never had two rigs until the famous tecamp bonanza of some time ago... Maybe it's time to bite the bullet, sell all the old cabs and get some good new ones...
 20.
Fixed it for you
Cheers, that's exactly what I meant! I've got to say that they are not bad cabs at all, but i'd let it go for another marshall 1555 folded horn cab, like the one i've got!
 21.
I don't know what your budget is but I'd look at adding a cab to your "mini" rig to make your "big" rig. My first choice would be another 210 or a Compact. I tried a Compact with my Bergantino 210 and they sounded great together, but your amp and just a Compact would sound like most peoples "big" rig!
The 2x10 is 4 ohm, so I can't just add another cab in parallel, it would be too low impedance for the amp. I would have to wire another 4ohm cab in series, and i'm not sure it's the right thing to do. I'm really looking at replacing the cab, which is a shame given the quality and the great tone I get at low volumes. Compact looks like a good option, it's just a cash issue at the moment, so i'm mainly gathering opinons.
 22.
I changed to a Schroeder 2x12 (1212L) from 2 Ashdown 2x10s. This cab is very low mid centric and cuts through nicely, add extra low end to taste and you're good to go. It's the best on stage & FOH sound I've had, super happy. YMMV
i'd love to try one, but no one seems to sell them up here, and I need to try before I buy
 23.
What did you make of the touring BFB Compact when you tried it out? I'll probably get flamed (oops! Sorry! ) for being a sycophantic Claber groupie, but it sounds to me like one of these cabs would give the kind of tone you are looking for as well as plenty of volume and hardly any mass at all... Of course, if you didn't like it.... I am selling two rather fine Ashdown 410s that will give you the tone you've always been searching for!
I would be very happy with one of them compacts, i think. Certainly trying it made me realize I could get much more from a single cab than I am at the moment, hence the topic... Bank balance bit of an issue right now, unless I can sell my current cab at a really good price. I haven't even tried really, but I should get started before the (sparse) winter gigging season starts. I already have an ashdown 4x10, one the cheaper MAG series, the ones with the blue cones. Got it super cheap, and I was going to try it on its own with the tecamp head next practice, to see how a 4x10 does on its own.
 24. I've used a compressor for a while, but didn't do very much for me. The tone I get is excellent at low volumes, but when we crank up enough to play live (we do mainly rock/funk/rocknroll covers), the tone seems to thin out too much for my liking.
 25. Thanks for the suggestions: I don't have a problem when I use a PA, the problem is only in smaller gigs when we don't have PA (most of our gigs) The tecamp cab is 4 ohm, and the head can't do 2, so it's a case of out with the 2x10, and in with something else. 4x10 is possiblity I hadn't entertained, I shall investigate the hartke and some others for comparison and completeness! I tend to like the sound of 15' cabs over 10', but i'm not set in my ways. The sound problem is actually entirely mine, the rest of the band don't seem to think there is much of a problem at all. But _I_ think there is a gap in our sound when we play live, and I think it's due to the lack of low frequency rumble. And I could be completely wrong and a different cab setup won't make any difference.
