Cheers, I wouldn't have seen it otherwise. That is tragic.
Same here. Tragic news indeed. Condolescences to the family.
2. I'm selling my Korg Pandora PX4B, "Bass personal multi effect processor" according to the box. VGC, perfect working order, in its original box, includes manual and and power supply, which was not part of the original package. This is the bass specific version of the pandora. Later versions are for both bass and guitar. Fantastic for home practice, enormous amount of features, i don't need to say anything else. £65 + shipping
3. one, passive, but i never use the same bass for two successive gigs. This keeps things interesting and varied.
4. i think it might have been tutti frutti, played in the attic of clothes shop on its opening party, sometime in 1989 or 1990. Probably played on a borrowed black aria through some small practice amp. I was 15 or so. No one saw us, we played three rock and roll classics over and over until the end of the opening party, sitting on stools in the attic with the spare stock...
5. Well i had to spend a fair bit of money to try and get mine sorted. Still a little weak open E, and one of the most uncomfortable playing position you can think of (I'm 5'11'' and have to stretch my arm to reach the tuning pegs...). The tone is beautiful however, and the thick neck makes you play in a certain relaxed manner which suits the bass very well...
6. I have and use a CMI-branded long scale Ned Callan bass:
7. Only tried at house volumes through the puma 350 and a variety of basses (squier CV jazz, Epi et280, CMI ned callan), and obtained interesting results A/B'ing it with the TecAmp s210 cab. Both cabs are very light, the handle on the compact is nice and simple and balances well. The metal corners could have been more flush with the sides, and the screws that hold them in place would have been better flat-headed. The rubber feet are a very nice touch, and I personally like both the logo and the silver cloth grille. At house practice volume, the differences are already obvious: the compact pushes out far more low end that the 2x10, but is less crisp and defined in the mid range. In essence, to my ears the compact sounds a lot warmer throughout, and my ideal solution would be use the tecamp AND the compact together. Alas, that can't be easily done, since the 2x10 is a 4 ohm cab... I will put it through its paces tonight at practice at higher volume and in a band setting. I'm also interested in checking out how it performs with the old and trusty Peavey Mark III. More tomorrow.
8. So I've just joined a traditional ska band, yet i never really played much ska before. Hit me with your top tips! It's quite a change for me, having almost exclusively played in three-piece bands up till now. I understand that the main risk is really to overplay, considering that the band has a horn section, keys and a singer. I already listen to some classic ska and similar, especially Trojan and Studio One stuff, but i can't always hear what the bass is actually doing all the time.
9. Nearly got the peavey, I hope it went to an appreciative bassist!
10. These were made in italy in the 60's, i believe. The same guy made even more unusally shaped guitars and basses IIRC
11.
Buy a Peavey T40
Strongly agree. Exceptionally good basses, different from almost anything else, versatile, US made if that's important to you, and as cool as you want (again, if that's your thing). Oh and in budget
12. Fellow T-40 players, what roundwound strings would you reccommend? I have had rotosounds on for a while, but i'm not too impressed. Anything else I should try?
13. According to the blue book (2009), it's worth around $2200 at 90% condition. Hope it helps
14. If it's any help, i've owned a Danelectro Longhorn, which is short scale, stupid light, and sounds pretty good and defined. You can buy one new for around £250 or slightly less. Only reason i sold it is that i got another shortscale I liked even better (epiphone et280, not very light)
15.
It's razze06 isn't it?
Yep that's me, I'll PM deksawyer at the end of the week to organise handover
16.
Quite loud though, although I wouldn't say it does grit very well, if at all.
Fair enough, no grit from that. But it's *tiny* and *shiny* and _dear_
17. TecAmp Puma? I own one, it fits in the front pocket of many gigbags, anf it's light and powerful, especially the 1000W version Also, phil jones D200 is tiny, fits in your coat pocket, but it's only 150 watts.
18. I've just got my mark III 400 back from the amp tech. I think this must have been its first serveice since 1979, the year it was built according to the dating on the pots and condensers. Interesting enough for a technically-oriented person like myself, the power usage is a massive 700W for the amp, but it "only" produces up to around 400W RMS into 2 ohm. I think this is one of the reasons why it is so reliable. Massive overspecification of components and inch-thick wood casings work... I think Ampegs of the same type (300W-ish, solid state) are much more efficient in terms of power usage and rms output, but arguably less reliable and sturdy. I also now have a nearly-original footswitch for it, I would recommend to anyone, the flexibility of two different sounds is extremely useful. Stranglers grind on one channel, rocksteady thump on the other...
19.
OK, two choices.... I wouldn't mind keeping the cab until next weekend where I've got a couple more gigs at different venues. I would then have had the cab just over a week ! Doing this might mean that DekSawyer is back from Oslo, and then after his few days with the cab it would also mean Razze06 is back. Otherwise, who is next on the list and I'll arrange a courier delivery to them in the next few days?
Your first option is ideal for me, i'd rather get it when i'm back instead of letting it lie in my house, unused, until I get back.
20. i think i'm after deksawyer inthe list, but i'll be away between the 2nd and 12th july inclusive. Hope that works out ok
21. i realized that I may fancy trying a cheap 5-string, so if anyone fancies a trade for this with a little cash either way, let me know!
22. Anyone for a light, retro shortscale bass?
