We were told that the Pleasance cabaret bar had a 95 dB limiter in the venue, but given that the organizers secured the services of the resident sound engineer, we thought we were going to be OK. We weren't. Got cut off late into the first set. Spent much of the second set with my eyes firmly set on the green and red bar, playing chicken witht limiter. Otherwise great gig, for a great charity.

Once again, i'm going to miss a bass bash close to home. Hopefully when the next one comes around i won't have broken my ankle...

Anyone ever bought a prized instrument from Cash Converters?

I bought an epi t-bird for £140, including shaped soft gigbag, about three years ago.. Sold it a year later for £160. I always stop and look in the shop window, but hardly anything turns up. -
i own an aerodyne precision, its a p/j configuration but the neck is slightly thinner than a precision, but slightly wider than a jazz.
+1 I also own and often play one. It sounds like it could do all you need. And it's quite light and nicely finished, if that's your thing...
On another note, is anyones rig taller than them? Mine is, but I'm short...
I'm 5'11'' and the knobs on the head of my rig are just at eye level. It used to be taller, but i sold the ampeg 4x10 that was under the marshal cab...

From what little i've read on the interwebs and on the blue book, it seems that Seiwa was a short-lived cheaper range by Ibanez, coming out at the same time that fender brought out the squier range. They seem to have lasted only acouple of years around '81-'83. I don't think it's a Matsumoku, maybe bassassin can shed more light? Very interesting jack mounting, is that a brass but?

My band used to do cover versions of both mercy and walking on sunshine. They are both really simple, but much depends on what kind of versions is this band going to do. I found mercy to give its best if played with an almost motownesque laid back feel. You're likely to start the song off, so you can pick your own tempo and groove. Walking on sunshine never really worked for us, it kept feeling like a poor relation to a The Jam song, possibly because we don't have keys or horns. all I could possibly suggest is to focus on a driving groove, it's a really simple song. Hope this helps and doesn't sound patronizing...
okok... so 8+ channel mixer, 600w+ power amp/Speakers. I guess what I'm really looking for is someone flogging a whole set-up worthy of my requirements... hmmm.. To gumtree!!! oh, and I'm glad I'm not the only one! Cheers matey
That's what I found, a function band that folded and had a full quality PA gathering dust and dampness in a garage in deepest darkest Fife

Certainly not a master here, but i've been in your very same position not too long ago. I found gumtree to be a great source for this kind of things. Lots of djs and bands upgrading or folding, so plenty of choice. If you're going to put guitars and drums through it, you'll need a mixer with plenty of inputs, at least 8 i'd say, and plenty watts in your speakers! In my not so expert view if you're playing venues that big you need a lot of decibels for your money! No less than 600W i'd say, probably more. Good luck
I don't think you've quite got hold of the 'fair but upbeat appraisal' bit yet. You might not think much of it, but others may love the look.
I did a little search, and folks on talkbass were swooning over the idea of a non reverse 5 string t-bird a few years back! Admittedly it's a little unusual, and a bit of a marmite one, but i believe very few were shipped to the uk, probably costed several hundred pounds when new in the early 90's -
If the Tecamp is that good I'd get another 210. 2 will always sound better than 1. I would imagine a 410 Tecamp will give you all the bottom end you need.
Fair point, only thing is that the cab is 4ohm and the puma head can't do 2ohm. The Peavey does though, mmhh...

Hi, Our band is about to move into a shared practice space, and I'm looking to get a solid rig in there, and use it both for practice and for gigs. When playing live, we mainly do small-medium private functions, with no PA support other than for vocals and acoustic guitar. I currently use the tecamp rig in my signature, which is astonishingly good, but, surprise surprise, lacks low end kick when pushed a bit harder. The Marshall cab I have gives me a fantastic warm tone with either the Peavey head or the Puma, but it's just not loud enough on its own. I have thought of using the two cabs together with the peavey head, which does 2 ohm and has a crossover filter, but i'm not convinved that would get me a better result. I don't need any particularly sparkly top end, but I like big low mids and I am partial to a bit of higher mids honk. I have recently tried a Hartke 2x15 XL in a shop, and found myself liking it, but at 400W into 4ohms, is it going to be loud enough in its undistorted range? I also like cheap unusual pieces of kit, but room is somewhat limited... Can you recommend me anything? Cheers, Marco

Bought a Korg Pandora PX4B off Earbrass, good price, smooth transaction, good packaging. Happy.

What the title says: I am going to get one of these thingies for home practice with backing track, and i'm just wondering if the PX5D is worth the extra £50-£60. I am also interested in your suggestions for a good place to get either of these (online or near Edinburgh) Cheers, Marco

They have finally reached their right price. Nearly bought that cab and the head that goes with it last year, before the price drop. I ended up getting something of similar size and use in the TecAmp bonanza of last autumn... I'll be curious to know what they sound like at full blast, especially in the lower range.

Well I recently bought a Danelctro Longhorn "dead on '58". It is as light as a toy, and a little unbalanced when used standing up. Soundwise, you can get quite a lot of variation in tone with the individual tone and volume controls for the two pickups. The neck pickup is very mellow and deep, and the bridge one has got a nice barking and spangly quality. I really like its sound. My only reservation is that come of the cheap and fun components may not be up to the job. When I took it to band practice, apart from the groans of my bandmates at the sight of a new bass, I found that I had to retune almost after every song. I admit I am extremely heavy-handed, and maybe that's just what caused it. Or maybe mine needs a proper setup before it holds the tuning etc. But it looks proper cool, doesn't it? (...)

An old Peavey Mark III head. Can go to 2 ohm if needed, loud as you want, and you can even crank up the gain and sell the big muff, cos you won't need it anymore. Not too hard to come by on the 'bay or here, and cheap.

Both and neither at the same time.

I almost never buy anything blind. Most of the fun for me is researching and trying things. I keep going back to the music shops to check out and try new (and old) stuff. Sometimes i do actually buy what I tried, but usually after i've been back at least twice...
