Four single-ended trasmission triodes of that kind! You'll get 650W of power to your speakers, but you'll be able to melt lead on the chassis, and you'll need your own power station to run it...

No 1 and 2 sound equally vintage to me, with 2 being a little more soulful and motownish, if you know what i mean. Number 3 sounds great in its own right though, but more modern than the others.

I'm moving house, I've got a broken ankle, so I've got to make a bit of a clearout. Here we have for sale: [s]* Squier Jazz Bass 20th anniversary, sunburst with white pickguard. Great player, a few chips and bumps, but nothing serious. £100 delivered in uk. Pics on this thread[/s] sold [s]* Cheap "Starfire" acoustic bass. With pickup and preamp, reasonable sound, good for noodling away without an amp. Really no idea of value, say £70 £50? I really prefer local pickup for this, I don't have anything to ship it with. [/s] sold * Danelectro Longhorn "Dead on '58" reissue in copperburst. This is effectively new. Played twice in the house, and once in band practice. I'll regret selling it, but I've got to.[s] £230[/s] [s]£200[/s] £190 delivered in uk. Pics posted, but identical to this. (actually, bought in the very same shop)
Heres my head, think its a duel purpose guitar/bass head. Plus my current early 90's head
Nice cab on the left, is that homemade?
well the cab was right next to me head. I like to have a massive jump from my clean to my distortion and with this amp if we had to play a show with no PA when i played distorted it was out of control and completely unmanageable ...
Were you getting distortion from a pedal, or from cranking up the gain in the head? In the latter case, I use one of the channel as dirty/overdriven, and the other one as clean, and switch between the two. I can control channel volume independently, but that is no use if you have got the cab against the ear and can't hear anything else anyway
mind you, thinking back to one show we did in a basement. I Plugged into two 4ohm 410s and i couldn't hear the drums! But still, the amp didn't have enough headroom for me.
Pardon my cheek, but if you couldn't hear the drums in that configuration, in what sense did you not have enough headroom? Are you maybe referring to problem with clipping/distortion?
i could never get it loud enough
I had the same problem, until I was made to realize that the head really wants 2 or 4 ohm loads. Much more oomph than with 8ohm, believe me...

Ok i'll start then: My battered Mark III head, sitting atop a Marshall 1555(?) 1x15 folded horn cab, sitting atop another Peavey 1x15. The only reason why I have another rig is that is often too loud for some of our gigs. The bass is a CMI Ned Callan from 1970/72.

Anyone else loves these beasts? Yes they are super heavy, yes they are so unbalanced that it's almost a two-people carry job, yes they are not particularly pretty, and hell no, they are not hi-fi... But they are more reliable than rain on bank holiday, you can throw them around (if you can lift them) and drop them down and they won't even scratch, they are LOUD, they take (and want) 2 ohm load, two mixabled channels with individual controls, plus graphic eq, biamping output with crossover control, they even do a reasonable overdriven sound by cranking the gain...all for a two figure sum (most of the time) There seems to be a fair few that, like me, bought one for almost nothing, and fell in love with it. If so, show some love, pics, and stories of your golden-era peavey gear, especially mark III and IV bass heads. Must have a top handle!

So over here in the east side you've got the aforementioned GuitarGuitar int he west side of town, then you've got Red Dog Music in the Grassmarket, reasonable selection and top location next to lots of pubs. The shop in Ocean Terminal is called Imported Instruments, but has got very little bass gear. Also of interest are Live Music and Scayles, both just off Clerk st, still central. There are other smaller ones which i forgot. GuitarGuitar is going to have the most basses, especially 5 strings, RedDog music probably the most amps and cabs and the best location
