It's like pulling off a plaster, the thought of doing it is much worse than actually doing. Plus hopefully some one else will love it and it will get played.

I am on my mission to do this, although I will technically have 3 basses, 2 are worth a small amount of money purely have sentimental value. These 2 basses will be put in a case and in the loft. I'm only going to have 1 bass and 1 guitar out. Spend more time playing, less time thinking about what instrument to play.

Very true that's a phenomenal album, started with Any Given Thursday as I think De La is underrated and lots of people haven't heard his playing before, but love Pino too!

https://open.spotify.com/track/1GLeSb7JwiSuIsXdrirkmU?si=l9kqcwptQ4Gm59jdLpzOeg With the absence of real live music I thought it would be a good idea to share live albums that have great bass playing, or maybe we just love them. I'll start us off with John Mayer's first live album Any Given Thursday. David LaBruyere's playing on this album is absolutely top notch, and as for John Mayer I could listen to him play all day. I think the album highlight is Covered in Rain. https://youtu.be/O3MICvgXvHM

I feel you, and I only have one kid! I wish there was a quick and easy solution, but I don't think there is. I found an originals band with a bunch of great guys and that keeps me motivated. Covid has definitely taken its toll on my motivation, due to my job I have been busier than ever when everyone else has had extra time on their hands. I have just booked a Skype lesson, with a world class player and even just prepping for the lesson has kick started some inspiration. But on the other hand covid has made me want to go down to 1 bass and 1 guitar rather than wanting new gear...

Both of these amps have distinctive sounds, and neither are used by a huge amount of rock guys. For what you have said, I would maybe look at ampeg pf800, dark glass m900, or mesa d800. Or my initial suggestion of going the Helix route.
-
Lol yes I meant 100% I shall edit😂

I have an off the wall suggestion for you. Get a Helix LT or hx stomp and an FRFR powered cab. This is give you a huge amount of options with high quality amp sims. Admittedly the learning curve can be quite steep at first to get the best out of it, but it's definitely worth it.

First rehearsal since lockdown and we were awful!!!
Crawford13 replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
The band being rusty and not as tight is definitely normal and nothing to worry about. As the rehearsals continue you will soon find your groove again. (pun intended) This happens with the best of bands. -
I feel this is also true, I wouldn't classify my feelings as depression, but if I am not playing music as often it is definitely an indication that I'm not feeling great. Ezbass is 100% right if I break the cycle and play I will start feeling better.

I agree with the above comments. A new bass might give you a short bump to play more, but I doubt it will last long. My 2 suggestions to find motivation to play are: Listen to more music, and it may trigger inspiration. Get some lessons with a good teacher that will open your mind to new ideas and approaches.

The Nordstrand Blades are incredible and will keep the highs, for sure my favorite pick up. https://nordstrandaudio.com/collections/4-string-precision-bass-pickups/products/power-blade

https://www.royalmail.com/personal/receiving-mail/pay-a-fee That's the website you go to. Hopefully you can get your reference number from the card

I know exactly how you feel. I love my current basses and rig, yet it doesn't stop me looking a new shiny gear that I see on here and you tube basically every day. However I have decided to try and focus my spare time on playing rather than researching. To hold myself to account I have signed up for Skype lessons with Phil Mann. I'm sure that will keep me busy!
-
You will usually get an email / card / letter from the courier with a reference number for payment. They will have a part of their website where you pay the duties, Vat, and handling fees. Once that has been done you usually book in a delivery slot. They possibly have a back log, and you will receive correspondence in due course.

Sorry you are 100% right, that is what I meant to say, should have read the post first before I posted.

It's been covered well in this thread that good players don't make good teachers & vice versa. The way I would look at this is the more you learn and understand music theory and technique the less you have to think about while actually playing. Unfortunately the teachers you seem to be seeing perform have quite gotten to this stage yet.

Another vote for Alpher. My PJ Mako is just perfection.

I wouldn't tell my drummer what type of drums / cymbals to play, and I wouldn't expect them to tell me what bass I should play. That being said I do get it that different basses make you play in different ways, though if I'm totally honest I think string choice plays just as big a role in this as the actual bass itself.

Ruslan is a total monster! Love his playing.

@julietgreen I am totally with you on that one. My brain only has so much space and it seems to push stuff out. Infact my band are in process of recording our debut album, and we have tracked 6 songs already, and due to not seeing each other and jamming for months I have forgotten a lot of the parts I have written. I'm going to have to go back and learn the songs I wrote...

Bob Reynolds sax solo in this song is one of my personal favourites, the drums are going crazy at the same time, which just makes it extra tasty.
