Bono has a long history of making investments (Facebook, for instance) so this isn't exactly surprising.

I've never seen a Warwick (Rockbass) like this one
. V itself would be harder. Nowhere to put the bridge!
-
I think it is down to people having no money but then again I have seen basses on here between £1500 and £3000 sell on here quickly maybe the "older" generation that seem to buy them have plenty of dosh kicking about lol. I think it is a struggle to sell anything in the £300-£500 price bracket on BC at present and I don't know why as there are some good bargains on here I have never had much luck selling bass guitars on BC depite putting the basses up for sale for the price I paid or slightly less and have normally made sales through gumtree or ebay which is a shame as it is great to deal within the BC community
My own take on that is that, as a general rule, guitars in the "expensive" price bracket are fairly rare (you don't see all that many Foderas up for sale, for instance). So if you want to buy a second hand one you need to be prepared to move quickly. Cheaper guitars, again as a general rule, are much more common. Want to buy a MIM Fender? You can afford to be picky and wait for one locally you can go and inspect in person. Plus---and I'm really reaching here---I think most of us probably already have instruments that are at least as good as anything you can buy for £300-£500. So when times are tight there's a slight element of "why bother?" with these instruments.

I've just sold a whole load of gear (that I'd bought second hand) and bought a brand new bass. Let's hope it's a keeper or else I've effectively just thrown away 40% of what I owned before!

Used 5 String recommendations £500-£700 budget
uncle psychosis replied to krispn's topic in Bass Guitars
You'll get a Yamaha Trb1005 for less than £400 and they're awesome. -
Let's face it, most of us already have all the gear that we "need". When times are tough it's hardly surprising that people are reluctant to buy expensive luxury items.
Not a big deal then!
The ironic thing was that it was pretty much the only song in the whole set that I couldn't play without an E string

Deja Vu Works in both languages, you're doing covers so its all stuff people have seen before
Sorry, of course. It's a 'Boomslang Liberator Nano' bass (piccolo tuned). The scale is 22.5 and it has 24 frets. It was designed by Mark Ramsay of Ramsay Musical Instruments.
Thanks! Looks very interesting. Are you using it as a travel instrument or for something more interesting?

Wow. Can those of us not in the know have some more info?
This is going to sound really petty - but I really don't like how the Wilkinson pickups have their name on them. If I could get a plain cover, I'd be happy to try them.
You could probably scratch it off (or paint over it) if you liked the sound.

Now, normally I hate all these "check out this video" links for all the usual reasons. And I absolutely love the bass playing on Get Lucky anyway. But that video is really cool, I love it. Especially if you consider it as a guy jamming along to a cool track, not as a guy trying to replace the original line.
-
Never tried them myself but another forum I post on has a lot of guitarists who like their guitar-flavoured pickups.

Not purchase feedback but I wanted to say a public thanks to Matt for letting me invade his band's soundcheck to try out his bass. Nice guy, good bass player, cool band (FaR) and I liked his bass so much I've just ordered one for myself Thanks Matt!

Tuner is fine on my B3 too.

Old strings on a P bass - an observation
uncle psychosis replied to SteveK's topic in General Discussion
Don't you guys using the really, really old strings notice that the bass doesn't intonate properly anymore? I quite like the sound of old strings but after a while they just won't play in tune. -
There's a band I've seen a lot up in Scotland called The Counterfeit Clash. They tended to do two sets---the first was everyone's favourite punk and new wave numbers, then they'd come back on and do an exclusively "Clash" set. No attempt at looking like the band, just playing all the songs (and well I might add). Always seemed to get a very good crowd, lots of singing, dancing, etc. Picking the right band to pay tribute to is definitely key.
-
I've only ever broken one bass string---it was the E string on the very first note of the very first song at a gig I don't take a backup to gigs, but I'm not getting paid to play or doing any "serious" gigs. I'd start taking a backup were I in a function band, for example.
Before you go spending money on this try an experiment. Remove the tone control completely from the circuit. This will be as bright as the sound of the bass will get. If that's not enough you'll have to look elsewhere for solutions to your problem. (I'd start with the tone controls on your amp)
This!

Hey folks My BB414 has developed a problem with the J pickup. For those of you not familiar with the BB414, its a passive PJ with master volume, master tone, 3 way switch. It has recently developed (overnight, in fact) a massive hum/buzz from the J pickup. Here are the symptoms; 1. Buzzes very, very loudly when the J pickup is soloed. The buzz goes away when I turn the volume all the way down. Turning the tone knob just changes the tone of the buzz. 2. Buzzes less loudly in the middle position 3. Doesn't buzz at all when the P is soloed. 4. Buzzing is unaffected by me touching the strings, bridge, etc. 5. Buzzing goes away if I rotate the bass 90 degrees. 6. I haven't changed anything else in my setup, same cable, same gear, same seat, same equipment nearby. This is a new issue. 7. No wires or connections are visibly broken inside the control cavity. Any ideas on debugging the source of the problem? I've got a voltmeter and a physics degree so I should be able to fix it myself... The fact the buzzing goes away when I move the bass makes me worry my neighbours have a new router or something through the wall. Wouldn't this affect the P pickup though? Also, does anyone have a wiring diagram for a BB414?

Electronic Drum Kits - any advice?
uncle psychosis replied to redbandit599's topic in Other Instruments
If the only reason to get e-drums is because he's too loud then he'd be better off sticking with "real" drums and learning to play quieter. It seems very common for drummers to only have two volumes---"off" and "bloody hell do you have to hit it that hard?". -
That's probably to cover hard drives/floppy disks/magnetic tape which could be adversely affected if placed close to other items containing big magnets (loudspeakers) or close to large power cables (in a depot?).
Probably, but as with all insurers if they find a loophole in their ts & cs then you can guarantee they'll use it to screw you.
