1.
Is there really any point in going over and over this anyway? I like a flat EQ
So on every single amp you've ever used you set the eq the same?
 2.
Ok, I take on board what you are saying but the op was about flat EQ which is a different term to flat signal. We all know what someone means when they sat flat EQ, so I can't for the life of me understand what all the fuss is about. I think maybe we should look to my profile pic to put this in perspective
Yes, they mean "I put the controls on my amp to their centre positions", which is a fairly meaningless concept. Plug your bass into an SVT and put the controls to the centre position. Have a listen. Then plug the same bass into a Hartke LH500 and put the controls to the centre position. The end results will sound completely and utterly different. "Flat EQ" on Amp A sounds different to "Flat EQ" on Amp B. Its what it sounds like that matters, not what arbitrary position you've set the controls to. A more correct question would be "who has found an amp whose default tonestack suits you?".
 3. The answer is not to bother going to see bands who are past-it playing in venues that are far too big. Expecting excitement and energy from artists that haven't produced anything relevant or exciting in decades and who are still living off past glories is never going to go well. Go and see some young, up and coming bands instead, or at the very least artists who are still producing new material which is worth listening to!
 4.
Understood Lemmy, but why would he get someone to come round and remove a date written on the fretboard unless he knew it was a fake date?
He got someone to come round and remove the fingerboard (neck) so that the date could be read. Its poor English, not necessarily any kind of scam.
 5.
Incredible, eh? Considering it's the style of bass I have owned longest and owned the larger number of (mostly because I went "meh, I don't like this" ) it's a surprising revelation. It's also given me a new sense of purpose: I do want a decent P now. It means maple fingerboard (of course), with a very nice neck (wide and chunky, but "just so"), and that has that "thump" in it (which means trying a bunch...). One day. The P certainly has its place beside the Stingray and Jazz. I have generally used a Jazz neck pickup to mimic a P, which it does to some extent, but there's something missing that even a lowly SR Precision has.
Knowing your love of bridge pickups you should try a BB series Yamaha. Its not quite *the* P sound but I think you might like it. You're welcome to a go on my 414 if you fancy
 6.
Under good old 'invitation to treat' legal rulings I don't think a shop has to sell at a price that's displayed so, if I'm correct, he could have refused your 'offer to buy' at the displayed price
This is correct.
 7. £300 for a TRB1005 is an absolute bargain. Great basses.
 8. I'd just put the screws back in! You could always get some black screws if silver ones stand out too much.
 9. For me, the most important part of pick technique is learning to alternate pick. It makes a huge difference if you can do it.
 10.
I'd guess a Rotosound Swing Bass?
11. Daft question, what strings are on it? I bought a bass that had strings with red silks like that but I never knew what they were.
 12.
Some people don't read though.
Then for that small number of people take the massively inconvenient step of sending them a response that says "no, the price is firm thank you". People get remarkably precious about this. Its bizarre.
 13. In this kind of informal marketplace I always think a small degree of haggling is perfectly acceptable and should almost be expected. If you really don't want to haggle on price and are one of the people who gets upset if people try to then put the phrase "No offers, price is firm" in your ad. If you know you aren't going to shift on price then make that clear from the outset and save yourself the angst and irritation.
 14. That looks great, kind of like an aerodyne P but less fancy.
 15. All you need is a USB cable and the "edit and share" software from Zoom. You can download it on their website. You can also use the software to rearrange, rename, and just generally edit the patches on your B3. It is very straightforward to use.
 16.
Gold on gold can work too:
Im sure I say this everytime you post this but I love that bass. Yum.
 17. I'm fairly sure that it's meant to be a joke. Not that it's funny. Still, at least the ad makes it easy to filter out whether you'd want to work with them!
 18.
If I was using a DHA for dirt, I'd do the same as sk8. If I was using the DHA as a pre amp, I'd put it last. But, that doesn't mean I wouldn't shift things about to see how they sounded. Always do that & see what you like.
This is pretty much word for word what I was going to say.
 19.
Hartnoll's are advertising this nice black one http://www.ebay.co.u...=item25862b72e0
something about those photos makes the neck look way too long in proportion to the body!!
 20. I'm happy with my gear! I've never really been too fussy with tonal minutiae, so the kit that I've got gets me the sounds I need. However, im not 100% happy with my technique, which in my opinion is much more important to what I sound like than where the tone stack on my amp has been set.
 21.
I thought I'd read somewhere that Marr wrote a lot of the basslines or is this not so? Not particularly bothered either way tbh.
I don't believe that's true. [Andy Rourke's playing on The Queen Is Dead album] "is something that no other bass player could match" --- Johnny Marr "He started off as a really good guitar player, but as I progressed, he got really interested in playing the bass. The two of us had this musical chemistry that everybody can hear in the Smiths. To this day, I’ve never met a bass player who isn’t super impressed by the way Andy Rourke plays. He’s a real one-off." --- Johnny Marr "When I was fifteen, I formed one of my first bands with my best friend. He was at that time the best musician, one of the best musicians I’d ever heard. We were just kids. Then in 1982, I formed a band in Manchester and I asked my best friend to come play the bass with me. And he was still one of the best musicians I’d ever heard. And tonight thirty years later, I’m gonna invite one of my best friends in the world, and he’s still one of the best musicians I’ve ever heard. From The Smiths... Mr. Andy Rourke! " - Johnny Marr (introducing Andy Rourke onto the stage i)
 22.
I have never liked the Smiths. Far to depressing for me, and i don`t like Morriseys singing at all
I've always thought that Morrisey's lyrics should be taken as black, self deprecating humour rather than taking them at face value. I've never seen them as a depressing band.
 23.
I've met lots of them although usually it only applies if you get north of the central belt. Most of the couriers charge quite a hefty premium for deliveries in that area. Steve
Highlands and Islands I can (just about) understand. But charging £13.39 for delivery to Edinburgh or Glasgow is mental.
 24.
Hi Pete. Mark from GAK here. Thanks so much for this. Always nice to get some good feedback!
Mark, When I go to the GAK website the site offers "free postage over £99". However, put in an address in Scotland and you get told "you need to spend £299 for free shipping to Scotland" and instead offers you postage at £13.39... This crazy policy cost you a sale last week. I've never encountered a company that treats Scotland differently to the rest of the UK. Is there a reason for it?
