Setting up a P Bass, Action and Nut Slots
PaulThePlug replied to Chienmortbb's topic in Repairs and Technical
As i mentioned in a previous thread '25 for me is gonna be 'The Year of the Set-Up' visiting em in turn, applying what i've learned, and making the best of what i've got, with a limited budget, Not quite up to Fret Leveling and Dressing as yet, or the cost of fret files etc,but got a cheap fret rocker to have a bit of a look, ideally need a notched edge. Note budget neck support and a cheap set of feeler guagues #1 My Cheapy Squier P.. From what i used to know - tap in the middle, and now with a 0.012 - 0.014 gauges, i'm taking loads of relief out! Set up to Fender Specs, Biggest surprise was the amount I needed to raise the A and D saddles - after finding a small enough allen key - to match the 9.5" fretboard from where it was, from when the Hi Mass was screwed on, and therefore a more exaggerated angle to the pickup halfs when setting pickup height. @Chienmortbb 7.25" 0.35mm 9.5 - 12" 0.3mm 12 - 15" 0.25mm Just love the use of mixed units! -

Quite Subtle for a 1 Knob, I prefer my Phaser and Chorus Slow-ish and Subtly Applied, none of that Gurgling Underwater, more Exhaling in the Breeze... Most Rate Only's are too deep for me.

Bass Amp Sound Reinforcement - ? pedal or new rig?
PaulThePlug replied to Kebabkid's topic in Effects
Tuner/Mute into BeadyeEye for Drive, Tone and Character with XLR DI and 1/4" out. Nice and Simple. The Joyo Korg-a-like tuner also has 9v out that will run the BDI even when the tuner is running of a 9v Batt - Should do a couple of hours off a single batt. -

Whereabouts are you, someone near by might have a BDI21 or something to try and see... £30 on a BDI21 if it doesnt do it could be £30 towards a new combo -

Local Facebook Squier P, Kent Armstrong / Tonerider (New Duke P?), AliExpress Scratchplate in a colour of choice, Clean 'n lube of tuners and bridge, DIY basic Set Up... -
Steady... basses's will start having pronouns! Pickups / Nut / Body Shape, then Scratch n control plates... Thats why i loves a Bitsa or Modder. Kent Armstrong Vintage PJ's Maybe even 2 of my Ibby SR's 38mm Nut and the sleakest of necks, SR300 with Maida Vale Stack J's, SR400 with DiMarzio Dual J's.

No idea... But, have a blast and enjoy!

Not a fan of the MM Ray, but... Huge fan of the New Instrument Rush, and that little mod that is needed that makes it your own. Enjoy

I'd start with what is local on Facebook and Gumtree... might be a surprise lurking round the corner.

So with loads of things with strings, From my Ibby GSR200 'Lock Down' Things went well Couple of Bitsa Builds.. Ibby SR to Mod then it went a bit mad... More SR to mod, acoustics, P, J, Ric-mistake, T-Bird stuff for my Son, Fretless and 6 Sting Bass, some Guitar Modders - got to be enough, but not saying never. so 2025 will be my year of the Set Up, revisiting my favourites with the sage advice of the BC Massive, my own learning and experiences. Time to get the feeler gauges out, order a fret rocker, good fitting allen keys and a pair of fingers to cross as we look for the ideal relief... stop sniggering at the back! Gona make best use of what i've got and done - and get playing a bit. Great email news letters from Gerry @ Haze Guitars, worth signing up.
