Pink Precision

yeah very nice. A precision with jazz neck is a project I'm thinking about at the moment.
2. I'd highly recommend getting in touch with the band/s you're supporting before the gig (facebook/myspace are good if you don't know them personally). If you're expecting to use their drums ask very nicely in advance. Very bad form to turn up expecting to use other people equipment even if the promoter says its fine. Find the sound tech as soon as you get to the gig and ask about soundcheck, also I think its always nice to offer to help lug gear around both for the sound and other bands. I believe that good relationships with other local bands and sound engineers make it more likely that you'll be rebooked. Performance wise - I'm rubbish but working on it so I'll leave it to wiser heads to advise on that.
3. Hiya, just saw this on gumtree. It isn't mine and I have zero knowledge about how good these are but looks to be a bargain for someone. Link
4. If the finish isn't great (and bothers you enough to do something about it) but refinishing it in a different colour would cause issues with the headstock why not have the body refinished in the same colour? Better finish but no issues with headstock & decal? Depends how set on black you are I suppose. Edit - doesn't look too bad to me anyway
5. Gig bag all the way. Plenty of other stuff in my hands. Very occassionally my stuff will be loaded into a van and then its a hard case.
6. bump for a good little combo. I gigged with one of these for a couple of years. Someone snap this up for this bargain price.
7.
+1 for humerous spoofs
hurrah, you've gone the right way. What about a play on homemade? Blindmade perhaps?
8. I used to stack a 1x12 combo on top of a 2x10 arranged vertically. Was a lovely tall rig so I could hear it well next to a drummer and (IMO) sounded pretty good.
9. all good advice, much better than I would have come up with. We played a house party which turned into a garden party due to good weather recently. Ran a vocal only PA, a bass amp and a guitar amp from an unwound extension lead from the house. Sounded ok to me.
10.
Definitely not happy with the Orange SP210. It looks awesome, emphasis on the awesome, but it just doesn't have volume nor does it have an amazing tone, especially when cranked. I don't know if it's me just being picky seeing as Iswapped to this small setup from a full-size stack but I feel disappointed.
Sorry to hear its not working. I love mine although to be fair I really only use it as a monitor.
11. Bit late but Friday night's gig was great. Originals at Lock 42 in Leicester. Really buzzing crowd and got some dancing/moshing action towards the end which was a great feeling for the band.
12.
Each to their own and is it just me because personally i think these sound awful.
You're not alone. Plenty of players don't like these amps. Fortunately for Orange, plenty of players do!
13. Yep tried one a while back at Music Junkie in Leicester and loved the instrument. I really liked it, much slimmer than any other precisions I've used. Felt more like a jazz neck.
14. the pic hasn't inserted mate. Or at least it isn't showing for me.
15.
Well just back from another gig and the rig stood up to the test. It sounded ace.
Excellent, glad to hear it. Would be interested to know what happened.
16.
TRY MARKBASS I HAVE AND NEVER LOOKED BACK
TIM! (sorry, had to be done)
17.
I doubt your cab can handle much more than 100W in the lows without the drivers exceeding Xmax, just be sensible! No output transformer on the Terror - don't use the 8 ohm switch with a 4 ohm cab but the reverse will be fine.
Right ok, I'll be careful. Thanks everyone. As always, your advice is much appreciated.
18.
True up to a point, but the impedance switch on the back selects a different set of output transformer taps. Using the wrong setting won't do your amp a lot of good...
In what way?
19.
Careful. Terror Bass is a Class D solid state amp with no output transformer. According to the block diagram the switch controls a limiter which drives the Class D output modules. As far as the OP goes, I'm not sure I follow the reasoning behind the question. If you have an 8-ohm cab then switch to 8-ohms. If it's too loud then turn it down.
Normally that's exactly what I'd do but the dirty amp sound might well cover the speaker distortion.
The OBT has a nasty little distorted side to it, and that engaged, you wouldn't really be able to hear the speaker distortion, right? And you have a cab rated 300w@8ohms, I assume? Mmmm..... I don't know how much harm it would really do - certainly I'd imagine that the amp should be up to it - it's not like it'll screw its output stage like a tube amp, and these things have fans, thermal cutoffs and (presumably) components selected to deal with the different tolerances implied by an 8ohm load... A lot depends on what the 'limiter' affects. And on the other hand, these things look like laptops on the inside, and repairs to modern amps are nowhere near as easy, or as cheap, as with old equipment. I have absolutely no idea - but you could take a hit for the rest of us, and try it..
Almost- its a 250W at 8 Ohms (for whatever the rating is worth) cabinet and don't want to damage the speakers. True, don't much fancy damaging the amp for the sake of curiosity
My best guess is that the switch changes the output limiter threshold, similar to what the biggest Genz head has (though I believe that drops the rail voltage too but I think that's unlikely with a class D module). Anyway, running an 8 ohm load with the switch at 4 ohms won't be a problem, you just get a bit less power but I doubt you'll notice much difference.
Mmm that sounds ok. Might give it a go on low gain, keep an ear out for any speaker distortion and see how it goes. Thanks for all the advice chaps.
20. Ok quick question about the ohm-switch at the back. If I switch it to 4 ohm would it function like a normal 4 ohm amp in that if I plugged in 1 8ohm cabinet would the cabinet receive just 250W? Sorry if I haven't explained that well. Thanks, Rob
21. White Stripes. admitedly not to everyone's taste but I really like some of their stuff
22.
FIXED.
Hurray!
23. I think most punters would never know or really care how fancy your gear is. If it matters to you (the player) then it can be worth the extra cash. If you're happy with your gear and your sound then why spend/change?
24. Ok quick question about the ohm-switch at the back. If I switch it to 4 ohm would it function like a normal 4 ohm amp in that if I plugged in 1 8ohm cabinet would it receive just 250W? Sorry if I haven't explained that well. Thanks, Rob
25. I use one of these in one of my rehearsal rooms, a great, powerful amp. Recommended bump
