Ashdown MiBass
Ashdown have really got it right with the MiBass
Great to hear.
  2. Line 6 Bass floor pod? Amp modelling, a few effects, headphones out, CD/MP3 input, can go straight to PA or to an amp. http://line6.com/bassfloorpod/ins_outs.html
  3.
IME the perps are normally serial offenders. Anyone can have a week or so when things go a bit crazy but i am talking about guys who are regular wingers.
Well said. Its frustrating when excuses are given too frequently. This thread just goes to show how important it is to play with musicians with similar levels of commitment and taste in music.
  4.
Spend less time ... trawling the internet for porn, et voila!
Lets not be hasty!
  5. a thing of beauty
  6. Well done!
  7.
hopefully this will be loud enough for the pubs and clubs the band ive just joined gig at?
Sorry, didn't respond to your full post. IMO your rig should hold its own with the band. I used to use an EB12-180 + Mag 210t in a 2 guitar punk/grunge band. No problem for on stage sound and as mentioned for bigger venues DI is the way forward in most cases.
cheers rob, was thinking of doing something similar to be honest, worth it as a back up then? any other models out there do thte job (and maybe more?) really not very up on this so... any help is good help :-)
Again IMO, its worth having a backup of as much of your gear as possible as nothing breaks the flow of a gig like faffing around trying to fix stuff on stage. I carry a spare bass, cables and straps (along with strings, batteries and a little tool kit) to all my gigs and now I'll be taking a DI box in case the amp packs up. There are loads of DI boxes out there which would serve as an emergency back up. I'm afraid that I only every use one in emergencies so am not really an expert. Do a quick search in the effects forum and there'll be reviews and opinions a plenty.
  8.
The EB180 has a DI Out on the front panel already - why not use that?
This, did it for ages without a problem with an EB combo. Having said that I've just bought a Behringer BDI21 as a back up just in case my amp dies during a gig.
  9. Ha! Erm. I bought a bag of chewits for £1 the other day. I was pleased with that but now it seems a bit rubbish.
  10.
Ashdown were a great name in bass amplification. Now they've been eclipsed by every Tom, Dick and Harry after dropping the ball to many times.
With respect I regularly see bass players using MAG amps of some kind either in combo or separates. The mid end gear that they produce is pratical and affordable and therefore are still a regular choice.
  11. very nice.
  12. Keep going. Hope it works out for you. Bands are never straight forward in my experience.
  13. Bump for a great value deal. I used to use this combination of Ashdown combo and extension cabinet with the cabinet turned vertically, worked very well for gigs and rehearsals.
  14. Good luck, let us know how it goes.
  15. "I can't confirm whether I'm free for a gig next month until a week before the date of the show"
  16. glad it seems to have worked out but keep an eye on it.
  17.
Why does nobody love Orange anymore.
I love Orange. Strong sound, super transportable. Sorry, don't need another cabinet though
  18.
I don't get why people stick with over bearing girlfriends? I've been in a few bands, the members have often had girlfriends, and it's never been a problem. I've been living with my girlfriend for 5 years but if she ever asked me to cancel a practise or a gig or something i'd be gone! Is it that some people just want to be controlled?
I don't get it either. Why would a partner who loves you ask you to stop doing something that you enjoy? The lady I share my life with would never do that and I would never ask it of her. Perhaps an element of balance is required in some relationships but to stop all together? A bit OT perhaps but what really confuses me is people who say their partner won't let them do something? Are we grownups with partners or children with parents? Isn't the clue in the word partner?
  19.
If you have to go take the drummer with you.
My 2p worth would be to have a very honest discussion first thing. Say that if his heart isn't in it (or is getting bad enough earache to mean the same thing) then it isn't good for him or you. He might change his tune, he might not but you've told him how you feel. If nothing changes then take the drummer (or get playing with the other one you mention) and set up your own thing. There are plenty of guitarists around and if you do the recruiting then you can be sure that they have similar tastes/skill/commitment before you get them in.
  20.
.... You are noodling away on your bass all on your own at night, Then you hit the resonance frequency of the old forgotten accoustic guitar in the corner, and it bloody sings out very loudly all on its own and makes you jump through the ceiling!!
Yep, happens a lot!
  21. Welcome to the forum.
  22.
I think I need to take charge more and start steering this thing.
Go for it. If you're not happy with how things are then make an effort to change the situation. Good luck.
  23.
It's a clash of different approaches/attitudes to music. If you want to be a musician, you play/practice everyday full stop. If it's just for fun, you don't need to do that. The trouble is, in the area between amatuer/semi pro/pro the two approaches sometimes mix.
Mmm interesting point. When you say "musician" do you mean professional?
  24. We do things a bit differently in my originals band. I am the primary song writer and lyricist so usually I will come to rehearsal with the structure and the bass, guitar and vocal parts written and then we'll work on it as a band until everyone's happy with it. Another thing we've started doing recently is our singer will send me some lyrics by email and I'll tweak them to fit with whatever music ideas I'm working on and bring it to rehearsal as a relatively finished song. The drummer comes up with his own parts on the spot during me teaching the guitar parts to the guitarist. Wouldn't work for all bands but is currently working for us.
  25. Ah but finding the right hat is the tricky bit.
